    Idea on obituary bit coupled with the suicide note ghostwriter:
    You ghostwrite the suicide note and then wait for the notification from the obituary website to see if they actually went through with it
    And when you haven't seen it pop up after a while, you follow up with them to see if there was anything wrong with your note; if they want a refund or something

    When Mark did Maron’s pod I remember Maron saying Mark writes jokes like he’s solving a math problem. Such a good analogy. Cool to see a real joke writer go into his process like this.

      100%. So fearless that it’s borderline autistic. As destructive as it is productive - his urge to “call out” the ridiculousness of human behavior in relation to communication through language is so incredibly important right now. He chose to be positive and productive. One queef at a time. Comedy!

    Regarding truths in comedy, if it's obvious that you're lying, it's just fun .. but if you're caught lying or being disingenuous .. you've failed .. The best comedy comes from a truthful place 😇

      @Xplora213 2 года назад +2

    Also with regard to obituary, it makes me think: o-bitch-uary and what rhymes with obituary is mortuary, maybe other rhyming words. Further to Mark’s comment about reading obits, my mom used to read them too to see if anyone she knew died. It’s true that it’s was kind of like the news back then in the paper.

    @Sean Millea - how about this ending to the email obit joke? You use the emailed obits to go to funerals to meet chicks (like Mark said.) You meet this one girl and now you're in a great relationship. Only problem is, you keep getting the email obits and she thinks you're cheating on her!

    Mark says it's almost harder when a bit has so many layers because of how you need to organize it all and obviously you're trying to keep it concise in the wording as well. I 100% agree, but is it a good idea to use it as a callback sorta bank throughout a longer set? If there are so many jokes to be made with it, maybe you can find a way to relate it to a bunch of other independent jokes and it almost becomes some sort of a thread to follow?

  • @hiandrewfisher
    @hiandrewfisher 2 года назад +1

    The obituary joke isn't about the website. It's about the business of death. Which leads one to a newspaper editor who demands more obituaries, which leads you to Spider-Man, which gives you the joke

    • @hiandrewfisher
      @hiandrewfisher 2 года назад

      1. Ask yourself what is this really about?
