If you drill a hole in the bottom of the V at the other end it can be useful in a drill press for center drilling round tube. You insert a tapered punch in the chuck and run it into that hole, then secure the jig to the drill press table. Switch out the punch for a bit and clamp your tube in place and away you go. The whole device may have to be built smaller though, not sure.
It's so nice to see actual homemade useful tools not made with lathes or mills or the junk ones stick welder made in 3rd world using grinder and sandell's . Thanks for your video's
We had jigs for this kind of job but that momma would never fit in a toolbox. That is an in-shop jig only. We just welded two C clamps to a 1/2 inch thick angle iron while it was under pressure to keep it straight. Several sizes of C clamps to cover up to 6" to 8" inch pipe after that it was more of an effort. The big stuff 12 inch and over had a couple of angle irons tacked on one side of the pipe for a cradle and the other was clamped or chained in place. I almost miss sucking in the smoke hour after hour.
I used to do similar stuff as you. If I could give my younger self advice I would say "buy a fein slugger metal chop saw today"...Not only does it cut perfectly square and cool, it has a pipe/square tube vise attached. It cuts way better than a metal band saw. I have made over 1000 cuts on the first blade and still going. Saves SO much time. Also, mount your metal band saw in a vertical stand. Safer and more useful. I made mine but u can buy them.
Awesome man! Going to head out to the garage and build mine right now LOL but I think I'm going to weld an old socket onto the top so I can use a cordless instead of cranking it down by hand LOL
............. Great idea and video. I might try this. What would you think of adding another clamp at the other end......? Say you needed to tack weld some square stock. Place it in the fixture, clamp down both ends and you have a secure two pieces, on the same plane. In other words, it's a great handy fit up jig on top of being a great clamping device.
I like your videos and your creativity. Thanks for sharing your work! One thing I always wish with such videos is that in the beginning you show the final thing in use so we know what we are looking at when you are building it. Otherwise I have to seek through the video to find the device built to determine whether I want to watch the whole video.
Soooooooo.....ur using your Wilson vise with a pipe holding vise to make a Pipe Holding Vice?? Trust me dude your Wilton would have worked just fine and saved u a ton too time and money.
Very interesting the way you built that most useful tool. Can't say I'd have a great need for it myself, but I wouldn't mind having one anyway, for the odd time that it would be very handy to have.
Very nice idea, I am definitely building one of these for my shop.
Like it! Add a clamp to other end and you’ve got a killer jig for splicing materials such as pipe and tubing.
That’s a great idea! Thank you for watching. 👍
Wow you built a pipe vise. Congratulations on reinventing that. I bought mine took a lot less time
If you put a bolt head on there you can zip it up and down with an impact.
Great idea 👍
If you put the same clamp on the other end it'd also make line up clamps for welding
Brilliant. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Hideki is impressed with the convenient vise.
From an old welder, fine job!
👏👈👍
Thank you.
awsome idea.very handy
Thank you.

Great idea😎👌👍
Thank you. 😀👍
So smart. Thank you
I could use one of those. Thank you
👍👍❤️
Good idea
Thank you.
If you put TWO clamp screws you can use it as a weld jig to join PIPE or BAR STOCK $$
Excellent tool!
Thank you.
This is a portable pipe vise with a very high capacity. Nice work!
Thank you very much!
You have a vise right there.
ok.
Very nice. I like this tool❤
Thank you! Cheers!❤️
Great design and all that demonstrated in less than 6 minutes. I have a TIG welder, but welding with that MIG sure looks easier for steel.
Yes, mig is much easier. Thank you for watching and your comment.
Very nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
When you build this for tour shop .go ahead make a couple small rest same way with out the clamp for longer pipe..it comes in very handy
Innovativ und Funktional, Dankeschön
Danke sehr
Hello AX very good idea good job well done
Thank you! Cheers!😀
Good very good

That vise😍
The wilton vise I mean

What's wrong with lathes and mills?

Why didn’t I think of that⁉️ brilliant
Great tool 😂
👍👍
Can I use the design for the final year project but I will change the design slightly
Very useful tool, very nice build. Thank for sharing.👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you for the tips.
They make a small table top chain vice that does all that without all the adjustment needed to change sizes.
But "they" arent me or you so it wouldnt be DIY if it were made by "them".
I use a Ellis band saw. Way more accurate
And cost significantly more
@@williepelzer384 but did you build it yourself?
@@pawz007 no but with it I have made way cooler stuff than this junk.
Very top
Thank you.
If you are making a jig for manufacturing truck racks, or trailers, this our a few of these might help.
👍
Have you ever used a tripod pipe vice ?
Wow👍thank you for sharing 💯🤝
Thank you. 👍🙏
Add another clamp and put an inch or so gap in the V and it's a great way to tack up tubing or stock for butt welds
This would make it more useful than the bench vice seen in the background.
Great 👍
Thank you 👍
Well Done
Get it ... weld one
Saludos.

Right on! Thank you for watching.
Almost ordered one but I want green

And, it would work great for welding two pieces of round stock when repairing a shaft.
Great idea
thanks for idea

Putting it at the end is part of the money making aspect of RUclips. It forces you to spend more time on the video..
Very cool and useful tool
Thank you.
Nice bit of kit for sure, but I would have built-in quick release, geat work
Great point. thank you.
Good videos tutorial brother, good job 👌👌👌
Many many thanks
nice rig ... i also need one ...
Thank you. 👍
20/20
I love this idea. It’s super helpful to have tools like this for gripping round stock. 🙂
😀👍

👍
Good good good , thank
Thank you 😀
Very good ! 🇧🇷👍
Thank you. 👍😀
Looks like more work than the result is worth. That said if you have the time, skill and equipment to make this then it’s great.👏
👍
A couple hours to build a tool he can use the rest of his life.......you didn’t think this through.
Very interesting !
Thank you.
EXCELENTE TRABAJO, HERMOSA PRENSA
Gracias, saludos.
Pretty cool, Iooks very useful. I usually don't like many RUclips welders and their gargabe welds but this one was cool!
Thank you. 👍👍
Nice work. However, I've never had an vice not hold round stock. Especially if you get one with a pipe clamp.
Ideia muito boa!
Parabéns!
Obrigado.
Excellent!! Greetings from Uruguay 💪💪🇺🇾🇺🇾

Did they not invent the vice to do all that stuff?
