- Morgan Spurlock, the documentarian who became famous after spending an entire month only eating McDonalds food, has died. He died from complications of cancer, according to a statement by his family. For 30 days, he only ate the fast food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. His documentary about the experience, Supersize Me, was nominated for an Academy Award. Spurlock was 53 years old.
Dude was a health class icon
He was a drunk
we watched him in the beginning of high school
@@Crusader1984and he still accomplished more than you ever will. How ironic.
Frrr
Sure was
RIP Morgan. The age of 53 is young. What a crying shame! 😢
Yes I agree. Alcoholism is terrible.
heavy drinking will do that to you.
Played his documentary in pe and gave us free time thank you 🙏
Yeah same. In 2004 PE class
Crazy
Same 🥹
Man! I remember watching Super Size Me in 9th Grade in English Class. Thanks you for good memories!
when I watched that movie.... I honestly felt bad for him when he started getting sick in the movie and I was dude, just stop.. please stop!!!! it really marked me to stop eating that garbage food !!!!
I watched our health class and I believe we finished it, but I don't remember because it was almost. I think it was almost the pandemic time in 2020.
Dude same and that was 10 years ago for me
10th grade for me but same. dude was a legend
@@DerangedIntellectual99th grade health class for me
The discourse surrounding his alcoholism on Twitter was so random.
I was JUST about to say I’ve been seeing them talk about him randomly this week.
It’s not really ‘random’, though. Please be honest here. Did McDonald’s cause his liver problems or did beer cause his liver problems? My vaguely educated guess would be that the latter caused more damage than the former.
@@titteryenot4524 correct. Fatty liver due to diet is reversible but cirrhosis of the liver due to alcohol consumption is not
@@samboy1406 Vegan diet did wonders for him.
@titteryenot4524 people been eating McDonald's they whole lives
I will miss him😢 I remember his documentary from high school
Same here I watch it in 2003 junior year
Hope you remember him as a liar. Disgusting behavior from an alcoholic if you ask me. Good riddance.
I remember the series based off the movie that I came across on Netflix so long ago. It’s a shame that never took off like the movie. It was the same thing. Just other obsessions
Lies.
@@Pr0toPoTaT0 I’m I missing something? Was he really that bad ? It’s still not right to speak ill of him now he’s gone 😢
RIP, His documentary was great and taught a lot of people to be healthier. He was a great man.
Er, no he wasn't. He still lied about McDonald's because he actually drank alcohol during filming of the documentary.
😢
No matter what type of person he was, you can’t deny that he helped bring attention to the dangers of fast food
@@nazomius7033 That claim doesn't hold ground since a college experiment where students ate McDonalds for a month confirmed that they don't exhibit the same symptoms Morgan had. The doctors in the documentary also deduced he was drinking during his McDonald's binge.
I wish him the best in his next new life! He will be forever remembered from his talents, passion and work!😞
He was an alcoholic, hence the bad liver which he blamed on Mc Donald’s
You dont have to drink alcohol to get liver disease. 🤦♂️ Look up non-alcohol liver disease!
True your right.
@JYoung-fl8fc before covid? because he had liver disease before covid.
@@Iamrightyouarewrongwhat does covid have anything to do with this?
McDonald’s Stock is up today
He died? 😮 First heard of Morgan Spurlock in my first year of college back in 2005. My colleagues and I began to rethink ourselves about McDonalds after seeing that documentary of his. Thanks for sharing that experience, Spurlock man. Peace.
Since then, I’ve undergone a personal health change in the last year alone. I was 214 lbs in 2023, but then in 2024. I lost 28 lbs in a year with daily jogging an hour a day five days a week. 🏃
I won’t go back to those old habits again.
Nice to hear. Any plans to lose any more? Do you have a goal weight?
@@civilwildman Ahh, yes. According to my doctor, the average weight for my age should be 180 lbs. And that is what I’m reaching for by continuously jogging until I reach it.
Congrats on the weight loss! Hope you reach your goal weight soon enough. It's gonna be nice to be out of the fat people club, lol. I'm sure your body will thank you! (I'm still a work in progress.)
@@miniwolfsbane2407 Thank you so much. 😀 After graduating from college, I didn’t take my health seriously enough. One doctor visit horrified me that if I continued what I was doing, I’d be at the level of obesity. Morgan Spurlock’s documentary film partially influenced me. I thank him for showing how fast food isn’t always a good thing. Portion size also matters, if proper exercise or eating healthy isn’t enough.
@twist58 you got this champ. Once I got up to 188lbs and I'm 5'9 which means I was borderline pre diabetic. Now I'm 155, trying to reach the minimum of 145 that's my goal!
I remember watching Supersize Me in high school and I actually watched it again about 2-3 months ago and I was just as shocked (and sickened haha) as I was the first time. It was an amazing documentary and it is a classic at this point! R.I.P. Morgan Spurlock. You will always be a part of history as an amazing documentarian 👏🏾🥹 Prayers going out to his family and friends 🙏🏾💙
Make sure to watch Holy Chicken as well, which is the sequel.
??? It was all a sham of a documentary. I'm not saying fast food is healthy but you can make healthier choices at those locations too. You also don't have to be an alcoholic either.
@@tooton9098 Tell that to poor people in the hood 10 yrs ago. Not now, MD is too expensive.
It is far from amazing. It's full of lies and deceit. He was a raging alcoholic and drug addict at that time. And it wasn't just the McD's that made him fat. He wasn't being honest. Only showed what he wanted you to see.
That joke of mockumentary is GARBAGE.
I remember in middle school we would watch his documentary during rainy days. Provided a lot of memories for my classmates and I, along with why we should not consume fast food so often. Rest in Peace.
Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut
I remember watching Supersize Me way back in my 7th grade health class. In fact, I'm pretty sure his documentary was one of the reasons why I started eating healthier in my teenage years!
RIP, Mr. Spurlock. Thank you for teaching us the importance of eating healthy.
Unfortunately making other people eat healthier seemed to have cost him his and could very well have contributed to his death. I believe it was stated that it took about a year after super size me to regain his liver health but I have no source to back me up.
@@davoohm2779 I read that he died of complications from cancer. Maybe eating all that junk food from McDonald’s contributed to it somehow. I don’t know. 🤷♀️
@@PhoenixPrime He was an alcoholic and hid that from the movie.
RIP to a man that has opened my eyes and shined the light on Health for me
May you greatly Rest In Peace Brother. I was grateful to have watched the documentary back in 2004 at home. The good times, always cherish Life & Happy folks
*R.I.P. Morgan Spurlock*
How sad 53 isn't really that old rest in peace.
Watched this movie so many times in health class.... RIP man 🙏
Starting now, I’m going to watch the entire super size me duology in honor of him.
WHAT, I LITERALLY JUST WATCHED THE MOVIE LAST WEEK FOR THE FIRST TIME
It’s a scam he was lying. He was drinking during the filming of it.
What planet do you live on??!
@@ivanarana7878 Jewpiter, you?
R.I.P ,..we watched u in school and you made alot of us see how them cutting corners is killing us..thank you.
I remember where and when I saw Super Size Me back in 2004. I remember how anxious I was to see the film, because I was a fast-food junkie. The movie opened my eyes to the lies and the power that fast-food wields over the public. The man single-handedly made a multi-billions dollar company, like McDonalds, to remove "super-size" from their menu options. Goes to show how much of a difference a single human being can make. R.I.P., Morgan !
You did such a profound and beautiful thing for humanity Morgan with your documentary.
I am sorry you left this world the way you did.
Beautiful comment.
Oh no this guy seemed like such a good man. I didn’t even know him and I’ll never forget him. I can just imagine the impact he made on the people in his life. Rest is piece brother
Other comments above say he was an alcoholic and that is why he died early but REGARDLESS the guy never said he was a saint when it came to what he ate and drank.......All he did with his movie is highlight a huge problem so the rest of us can learn from him.
@@karenmbbaxter What did he highlight?
No one eats McDonald's 3 times a day, each time 2x serving sizes, for 30 days.
And a University did the exact same study with a dozen students, they did not have the same results as the liar.
Oh, no. R.I.P. Morgan Spurlock. Thanks for the great documentaries. 🕊🕊🕊
Thank you for the documentary you made on behalf of all of us
Thank you for the documentary
now do a story on that guy that eats 2 big macs a day. he's 70 and has consumed 34,000 big macs in his life
Mac Sauce is a healing elixir
I was at a park in West Virginia years ago, waiting for my kids to ride a pony, when I realized Morgan Spurlock was standing right beside me with his wife and young son. I recognized him right away from Super Size Me, which I enjoyed and had a big effect on my eating habits. I had also just seen a sign at the park for a Spurlock family reunion, so I knew it was him! I didn’t ask him for his autograph or anything, though, because he was having fun with his family and I didn’t want to bother him, but we all chatted briefly-just normal conversation between regular people. He seemed very down to earth and easygoing. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace. ❤️
My Sociology teacher would always play his “30 Days” series for our lessons. I really enjoyed them. May he rest easy.
I remember him from the movie super size me
Just like the title said
I remember him too from the mcd's documentary, he was like the main character or something
I just watched a RUclips debunk video by “Weird History Food”!
Me too! crazy how the algorithim works
Same how weird I just watched it a couple days ago that he lied
Same… I just watched that like literally a couple days ago that he fabricated the whole thing a bit.
Same!
I watched Super Size Me in middle school. Thanks for the memories!
I watched the documentary years ago. Sad he passed so young
He was such a good, nice person. Whenever I saw him I thought, "good person". I send you love, Morgan.

The guy lied about McDonald's. He tainted his experiment because he was a drinker.

A creative genius who came up with the idea : what if I ate McDonalds for a month and filmed myself doing it.
Truly a revolutionary
So sorry, condolences to the family.
Thank you for the memories. Rip Morgan Spurlock!!!
This man single-handedly changed the worlds view on fast food, I will never forget watching supersize me in shock, disgust, and hunger. He brought awareness to everyone who watched and I will never forget how school lunches were impacted forever after his documentary aired. Rest in peace sir!
He came to my university when Supersize Me had just come out. He was so kind at the screening. 😔
I am 45 now but i cant i believe i watched his movie in 2003!
So you were 12 when this came out? That's crazy
I remember seeing this guy and his movie "SUPER SIZE ME" in cooking class at my middle school in 2004. Which unfortunately lead to becoming anorexia shortly after. I used to eat Mc Donald's as a young kid almost all the time and after watching his film. I have never gone back. Sad that he's passed on and sad he died of cancer which I think may have been from making his film. Thanks for the memories Mr. Spurlock. My condolences to his family!
So sad. Not only did Morgan enlighten us all of the woes of McDonald’s, but he also was a fellow West Virginian. RIP Morgan - so sorry you left us so young.

RIP he showed us that constant fast food can be too much fast food. The process he put himself through is just bravery itself and that his work on the topic of fast food shouldn't be forgotten.

I love how they dont talk about how much he was drinking during the show. it wasnt the food it was the drinking.
Say what you want about him but he was a very honest person and faced his demons and publicly announced his faults in tweets when he didn't have to.. Look it up...his interviews about his chicken fried restaurant. Rip to a documentary legend.
Even though I never watched super size me it just feels like I’m in a nightmare now it feels like this is not real but it is reality

I was litterally just watching a video about discrediting him the other day. Dispite how he went about it, it did get people talking about America's obesity crisis and fast food corporations contribution to the problem. Sad to hear. RIP
He had a really good series on CNN that was like an hour long documentary on different subjects and it was really good. I think the most heartbreaking one was the one where he spent time at an animal shelter and they had to put the animals down. Couldn’t pay me enough money to be in the same room where they did that.
