- 2010 USA made Gibson Explorer vs. ESP MX-250 (made at the kiso factory in 2003).
I used the same string brand and gauges for both (Ernie ball 10-48). Note how even thought they have different pickups they both just sound like Explorer guitars but one is affordable for most of people while the other one has become a very expensive instrument and so hard to find.
What differences did you notice sound-wise ?
Thanks for watching !

The ESP is sharper, more crisp while the Gibson has a warmth. Considering Hetfield's obsession with his clean sound being very Piano like, the ESP is the clear winner!
That’s just the EMGs.
@@andy_182true
@@andy_182the pickup's here aren't EMG's they aren't even active's
@@JokingbombYT better look again
@@JokingbombYT it looks like the EMG het set, which are made to look like passives with covers but they are active
Man I wish I could have an ESP Explorer. Some dreams might never come true…
Me too, i wish...
Just get an epiphone bro
You never know
buy some Bitcoin then and in couple of years you'll be abe to afford one
most likely even sooner than that
im in the market for one wish me luck
I think Esp mx guitars could cost many times more than gibson
MXs are expensive as hell, but they are pretty rare, so it kinda makes sense.
I saw one on reverb for $20k
@@PapaT_w More than year of working to buy guitar 😁
@@xsanos2586 for real. I know some pros who won’t spend 2k on a guitar
I found one at a pawn shop near me for only 400 dollars! It's one of the original 125 MX-220s.
I'm thinking about getting it simply because of how good a steal that is
The ESP in my opinion. This just makes me exited because I'm building a custom with my grandfather modeled after the ESP. putting in the het set
especially for this excat track, the esp kills it.
make sure you get those measurements as close as possible to the actual thing
Film the process man, I am curious.
Goddamn they both sound phenomenal! Which one would you say plays better?
I think the Gibson has a thicker neck not 100% sure tho!
@@arai3205 Depends on the year of production and the model. At least it's not like a Les Paul neck.
@@faceoff17fs but the gibson feels warmer and more full
@@kh_wzz That would be the pickups. What you just described is exactly the difference between active and passive pickups :)
Holy shit, you played the MoP interlude! Thanks, man :)
I've always been a huge fan of the MX-250. Sucks they're pretty expensive but I understand why, for one they're ESP, and for two they haven't been production models in like, three decades.
Great playing as always. 🤘
I’d like to hear the same two played with distortion. The Gibson sounds more full and the ESP cuts through more. Both sound really good.
Full version of this masterpiece 💜💜💜
On first listen they sounded exactly the same 😱 But on repeated listens I noticed the Gibby has more body (bass) in the tone, while the ESP is perhaps too bright (in regards to the original tone, which I think is more closely achieved with the Gibby).
I've never played a gibson that feels better than an ESP
And the ESP is sexier
I love your content bro But Is there any chance of you posting the tone settings that you use in the near future??
Sinceramente yo he escuchado la ESP con más cuerpo que la Gibson y me ha gustado más. No obstante la calidad de sonido en ambas guitarras me parecen una bestialidad.
I prefer the ESP, tone is clearer and brighter, more chimey and precise.
every time you bend the E string, second fret before you play the open E sounds so GOODDDD
Both are awesome in their own right!
0:02 Gibson
0:20 ESP
IMHO, will be interesting to use active pickups on Gibson and compare both of them in that conditions
What guitar shop that we can find ESP MX-250?
Where did you get your esp mx 250?
Where can I get an esp explorer? Or was james’ just one of a kind?
i have a epiphone gothic explorer and hope to put some emgs in it on day
bro, but how do you get that clean sound??????? please tell us. :)
Why're you slightly bending the last note? Otherwise tone's heavenly and I feel the ESP one is closer
Because he wants people to criticize it,congratulations you’re that guy
Because that’s how they’ve been playing it live for like the past 20 years?
I know the shapes of these two guitars are slightly different, but are the sizes pretty comparable?
They have the same neck diameters? Radius, profile etc? Which feels better in hands while playing?
Not even close the esp is way thinner.
damn that esp sounds good
It's about choice. They are both great.
The ESP sounds muted in the top and low end. The gibbo is much clearer but that's most likely down to the pickups than anything else. ESP would probably sound more focussed in mids when playing through an overdriven amp, less fizzy or loose.
Yes, I perceive it like you, side to side the ESP sounds nearly unpleasant to me, the Gibson, on the other hand, has so much sparkle.
@@Martin23673 Sparkle... Guitar players and their terms, lol. All these differences in pickups are easily adjusted with an EQ.
@@Martin23673no it doesn’t wtf are you talking about
They both good .
What model is that esp????
They sound like basically the same, maybe a little clarity difference but that’s about it
Gibson much warmer which is a surprise since I’m such an esp fanboy 😮
Please post a cover already we know u got the tones guitars and skill!!!
And what the difference?
I heard only difference between Gibson passive pickups and EMG’s
One day ill get an mx white..... One day
Not surprising that different pickups would have different output. 🙍♀️ 🤷♀️
The Gibson just sounded a lot fuller all around. The ESP sounds like a good single coil.
It's pretty close, but to me the Gibson sounds a little more "deeper" which i really like
Gibson sounds more authentic
The type of wood and the pickups is the difference in sound you hear.
-The type of wood and- the pickups is the difference in sound you hear.
Tonewood is a lie.
Where do I find an esp explorer? I need one!
Either used one from Reverb or ESP Custom shop.
Reverb 🤣 good luck paying 8 times the actual cost
ESP no longer makes them
@@lluisarmengol6726 Actually, ESP custom shop does..
@@rtomas47 they stop taking orders in 2020 and the last ones made were from 2021.
Are you sure? do you know from anyone made now a days?
Esp sounds soooo much better
ESP is way..... superior , ive had both. Oh and doing a sound test only works when you have the same pickups in each .
All right, 44 seconds with no comment on what you expected. Both sound good, but what about feel?
Is that a real ESP or a Chinese copy? Because the size is. quite noticable
i think the guitar player is great. guitars doesnt matter. if you're good you're good
Really this is about personal feel cause it can't be about sound since they have completely different pickups. The Gibson is not a true solid body like the ESP, so there will be differences there, so again it's just about personal choice and feel.
So what did you expect?
ESP 👍
Esp
I sold an ESP years ago. BAD MOVE!
I like the sound of the Explorer best.
Which one is the more expensive and harder to find guitar?
Is this serious question or rhetorical?
@@rtomas47 of course its a serious question
@@BosGaurus05 Gibson Explorer is pretty common, most guitar stores have them and the prices are reasonable. ESP MX Explorers are extremely rare and really expensive.
@@rtomas47 i never thought that esp explorer worth much money because its just a copy of gibson's. But guess I'm wrong
@@BosGaurus05 the gibsons were mass produced and are still in production. Lots of supply so cheaper. The ESP MX was only available for a short time before Gibson sued ESP so they’re pretty rare. More rare means more expensive. ESP EX explorer not so rare and more affordable. EX is the newer pointy one and MX has the more rounded edges and hockey stick headstock. I have owned both but prefer the looks of the MX but it’s all down to personal taste.
Gato con guitarra negra y blanca
Different pickups = different sound.
They sound very similar but the ESP sounds different. James used to use Gibson Explorers back in the early 80s but in 1988 he got a new guitar which is the ESP. He turned it into the EET FUK guitar.
Was that his first ESP guitar?
The esp has that glassy hollow buzz tone that’s closer to Metallica
I have a schecter e1 and love it
Both guitars would sound exactly the same if they had the same pickups
I gotta go with the Gibson. I prefer passive pickups and the Gibson sounds fuller.....fatter. The ESP sounds too thin. It looks cool as shit, though!! 🤘🤘
emg dont like high notes.. what ever pickup gibson seems clearer in the high end as well as the lower
I'm sure if you crank up the gain that 500T on the Gibson will woooooof that esp off the face of the universe
the gibson has more low end while the esp has more highs
Passive vs active pickups tho
@@rtomas47 forgot about that
And that’s ALL it is - the pickups…
I prefer epiphone
ESP sounds way better than Gibson wow
ESP sounds better, but you played it way faster on the esp
if not for one. you would not have the other.
ESP is the best.
ESP built better "Explorer" guitars than Gibson.
Straight Facts 100%
Not exactly distinctive. They sound close
They feel and play different also the ESP is heavier and just a solid piece of wood but still scary close right ?
@@gallettiguitartones Yes sir!
For this song, ESP all the way: better definition, the tone is not that high and the overall sound is more dry.
With an EMG 60 on a Roland Jazz Chorus, it is perfect. Haha
Play master of puppets
dawg.
@@bink5242 that's what im talking about
Gibson sounds much better, fuller tone
Gibson sounds way better in my opinion
ESP did the Explorer way better than Gibson, ESPs explorers will always be the best explorers there is and always will be
Gibson sounds more serious and fat
I think the Gibson sounds balls and the ESP sounds like a neutered Gibson !😦👍
