I’ve been looking for one of those power supplies for quite some time and can’t seem to find one LOL. Great video

I have had the 30 Amp "I" unit for more than two years and no problems. Thanks for the video. Glen, N0QFT

Love seeing the old Heathkit 2410 Freq counter in the background. I had one of them many years ago....

Fluke 77/AN for the win! I've had one since the early 80's.

Picked it up at a pawn shop for $20 a few years ago. Old faithful.

I would drop in a 30 amp fuse between the + output of the PS to the binding post on the back. 50¢ worth of protection.
Currently working on an Alinco DM 330. Was plugged into a gen set and never came on. It had an on going issue with shutting down intermittently, the dirty power of the gen set blew open whatever was failing. Interesting enough there is no 12 volts to the voltage regulator IC either which is provided by a secondary circuit. Joys of switchers.....

I bought a used pyramid 12amp power supply I TXing on my cb when the voltage jumped to 23volts I didn't get my gear turned off quick enough. Fried my yeasu ft2800. Txo scanners and cb seem to be ok. I had fused links not sure why none blew. Now power supply goes into protection mode every time I put even a small load on it, also noticed it's out put voltage is only 12.2 v instead of 13.1. I did remove fuse in the back of power supply... it was wrapped in foil from when I bought it used. Damn!

The 2800 uses far more than than the power supply you use. Higher amp supply needed.

Old post but just bought this identical p/s branded by techpower. I've noticed these units are not calibrated correctly or adjustments are off or something. Your display reads 13.5v. Should be 13.8. Unless you had it on adjustable mode. Mine displays 13.7v when the back switch is on 13.8 steady mode. Tested with my Fluke and it was putting out 13.83v. Switched it back to adjustable mode and set it to 13.8 and it measured at 13.9. So they're off a tenth.

For a while I wondered what "sodder" is. Presumably it is Solder, with an L in the word?

I remember in college accidentally grabbing the leads from some of those old WW2/Korean War surplus capacitors. Boy, it will definitely start your day off kicking.

It looks similar to an Alinco and identical to an Amazon branded PSU.

Any particular reason you didnt add a fuse to the output?

    • @loughkb
      @loughkb  7 лет назад

+mike mclaughlin I have in line fuses on the gear I'll be powering. But you certainly could add a fuse to any of these modern supplies.

Why didn't you just use a piece of copper wire to make the link?
An off-cut bit of T&E would of done the job.

I wanted to spread out the contact area as wide as what was left of the original trace. I know it was a bit of overkill, but that's just me. I tend to over-build things, but they last.

Looks like you let some of the magic smoke out of that big cap! 73, de N4QM

I wondered if someone would say something. That was from something else next to it in the device it came out of. A blown bridge rectifier I think, just cosmetic, the cap is fine.

Yeah, you could say that PCB trace played the role of fuse.

Man...I inspect electrical components...class 3....That board is a mess! Flux all over the place and really poor soldering...I understand..Not your doing!
