Think of him in a hotel room, drunk and depressed. Dealing with survivors guilt. He’s “made it”, but he’s friends back home are still with the same struggles. He falls into a drunken stupor and wake up with a new perspective. We’ve been hurt been down before, but we’re ultimately gonna be alright. Instead of drowning myself in booze I can uplift my community through hope. The albums transition between this two songs is one of the best in music history.
In the intro, he is sitting in the car with a group he was in called Black Hippy- all great artists in their own right (Kendrick, Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul)
your mom has bars there "if you scream it loud enough, hard enough, and oft enough you will be, but the need to scream it loud enough, hard enough, and oft enough makes me wonder" that was heavy. She must be a great writer
That's interesting, here in Argentina means what mom said: the drugs are here. The same is true for my native Chile. I also heard that in some places it's used as territory boundary markers. Maybe it's because here we have a tradition of street altars for people that were killed on the street either in traffic accidents or violence in general. I guess it has more than one meaning depending on where you live, and the local customs. Thanks for clarifying what it means in the video!
Mom understands the art! Kendrick said in order for him to be an uplifting leader he had to come from a dark evil place and she sees how the video depicts that live these blind reactions you can tell she’s genuinely never seen it.
OPINION: Momma is a lot more attentive than she gives herself credit for. I feel like she sometimes catches things that some of us even miss, however, i do feel like you drown her sometimes. You obvioulsy know more about the hip-hop scene but try to let her speak her mind a bit more (not that you don't). At times i feel when she has a different opinion to yours, she holds back a bit. But i wish she could stand her groung a bit more. Even if you know she's wrong or going off track, its her opinion. And don't cut her off, allow her to finish, then make your comments. Personally, i like hearing her opinion. Theres not a lot of white ladies her age in this scene.
I love mama! She had me smiling and eyes getting full Tear dropped when I seen her reaction to Kendrick falling then smiling Btw she got rhythm ❤ I just love this woman 🫶🏼☺️
I dont even like most reaction videos, but your mom is always one of my favorites. Idk if she's a consistent hip hop listener or not, but i love hearing her fresh perspective on things. Knowing there are people out there that hear the lyrics, thinks about them, sit with them, and cares brings me a lot of joy 😁 Praying for her 🙏🏿
Wishing you the absolute best momma. Can’t wait until you come back from the hospital and fully recover so we can see you react to more music without that weight on your shoulders in the back of your mind. 🫶🏻
i just found your channel, havent watched much yet but i already love you guys. i lost my dad 5 years ago, 3 years after a diagnosis (glioblastoma in the brain). praying for you guys.
I would tell mama that to be ashamed or guilty of something you didn’t put in place isn’t your fault. All we ask is for empathy and understanding. The fact that this world seems to be set on only seeing the negative and perpetuating lies about a group of people hurts, however we remain hopeful of the better days to come. The son is right about “To Pimp a Butterfly” in that this album was about culture and a true message to Black people. In mind from the samples, beats and uses of featured guests, this piece of art was about Black folks recognizing their value, hurdles and love for themselves. During the time “TPAB” was released “Trap” music and beats were all the rage and many critics initially hated this LP. Some were so distraught that we didn’t get “Good Kid M.A.A.D. City” part 2 that they promoted the idea that Kendrick had released TPAB as part 1 of 2 productions. I could go on and on about this album just because of how special it was and is. Keep in mind I am praying for mama’s speedy recovery. Do get well soon. I hope to see more of this channel’s content!
Love how your mom breaks down KDots song so effortlessly 🔥, your blessed with a very wise mom. I pray God grants her healing and more years on earth 🙏 sending love from South Africa ❤
I love mom. Hope she’s doing well. I just commented on your reaction to ‘U’ and came here and I said in my last comment that he makes music for himself and mom just said that here which let’s me know she gets it. This album was him dealing with coming into fame and making money and facing new demons in the industry and trying to balance that with everyone back home feeling left out or like he’s forgotten about him. It’s so much to unpack there. Love this album
I agree with what both of you said in the beginning, momma T wasn’t agreeing that the song was uplifting. Kendrick’s songs are very deep. They are both uplifting and enlightening. They lift up the culture and show people in the struggle they aren’t alone there is a light, follow God, follow your heart you’ll be alright. To those not in the struggle it enlightens not everybody in America goes through the same tribulations, songs like Kendrick’s allow them to sympathize so that EVERYONE can move forward together 🙏🏼 still praying for momma t, love the content!
wishing the best and all love to momma if it is possible can you both do a reaction to any joji song? i just enjoyed y’all reactions to him and i would love to see more :)
Also people speculate that the intro song Kendrick put on the Not Like Us music video is the same idea, wont ever be released but you know he has it in the vault ready at any time
Hey guys, big fan of the show. When you guys have the chance can you please review the full song including the interlude of mortal man. It's a very powerful and deep song. It's part of the to pimp a butterfly album. Just remember guys, you have to get the full song. As the song start to slowly wind down towards the end, Kendrick Lamar has a interviewing someone special and you won't believe who who it is. You guys have to check it out. You would have to listen to the audio because I don't think they did a video to the single. You guys have a blessed day.
You guys need to react to swimming pools off of GKMC by Kendrick. Its a somg about kendrick struggles with alcoholism (it also is a club song which is very ironic) some more reactions off of GKMC would be so hood as it is easily one ofthe best albums ever

Mom is right pimp a butterfly was therapy for the culture not for himself Mr.Moral is more himself
The Shoes on the Line also represent a friend who has passed away as a sort of commemorative gesture.
I grew up with this meaning. I've never heard of it being drug related, but maybe it's region based
Yeah, I grew up in the 70's, and this is the *only* meaning I know or have ever heard of.... *Never* anything "drug related," *ever...*
I'm From Long Beach and that's what it means where im from.
@@invadernoon2807 it's not
If your in a hood with gangs and stuff it means drug deals, gangs plotting their territory or other things I believe

In our neighborhoods in America.. Those shoes over the power lines are from ppl who passed away from the area
In L.A. it means drugs are sold here
In the intro, he is sitting in the car with a group he was in called Black Hippy- all great artists in their own right (Kendrick, Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul)
Cant belive the did the reunion on stage after a decade, insane
The police carrying the car is deep too it’s like a casket… also Kendrick’s friend was killed by a police officer when he was 17
On my Momma! You gonna be alright!!!!!!!❤
your mom has bars there "if you scream it loud enough, hard enough, and oft enough you will be, but the need to scream it loud enough, hard enough, and oft enough makes me wonder" that was heavy. She must be a great writer

Momma is insightful as always and I'll be praying for your safe recovery.

Shoes on power line means someone was killed here on that street
Right I came to mention
@@Yeeuu-teeuube-inword someone got hit and a cheque was paid
