Thank you for this channel. My Father was born in Cuba and mother from Chicago (AA and some Irish) but he never raised me. I knew a little Spanish as a child because I had Mexican teachers who often poke E?S in the class and learned songs as well. My father and I reconnected when I was in my 30's and he expected me to be fluent in Spanish and bragged how he came here and took classes for English so I should be fluent in both languages. He was very old school and hard but he was loving in his own way. He didn't make learning easy and often embarrassing in public lmbo. I've been living in NYC for years and mostly older Dominican and Panamanian black women would walk up to me and speak Spanish and I would feel so shamed for not being fluent. I'm doing this in honor of my father. BENDIGA ❤
Thank you for taking the time to teach us! My Dad was PR. May God rest his Soul. My Mom was Black and from Georgia. May God rest her Soul, for she too died when I was 11 years old. I've enjoyed both cultures but didn't learn how to speak PR Spanish. Unfortunately, everytime I'd take a Conversational Spanish Course, I'd forget it because I rarely used it. I know very little PR Spanish and looking forward to learning as much from you as possible. Thanks again!
Your channel is so great man… I have been practicing for a couple years now and I am starting to reap the benefits of all my practice!! Thanks for helping unite people from different backgrounds.
Loved this exercise. I really need more listening practice and this was intense, engaging, and challenging. Please do more of these rapid listening videos.
I'm getting there. It's slow, but I am getting there. Can't pick up conversation due to speed of Spanish dialogue, but I'm getting there. Thanks a lot for you channel. It really helps me a lot. Much love from Tony in South Africa.
My first language is English but I’ve been speaking Spanish for several years . However, through your channel and videos I have learned quite a lot of words that I have never heard before. The reason of course. is because there are so many different versions of Spanish based on their Country. Thank You very much for Channel .
yoo no way. I was looking at this video cuz my girlfriend needed some help learning spanish whenever I'm not available and just noticed you're coach rock from ILB TV back in the day. I used to watch all your videos and it's great you're teaching people in different aspects of life. Great job man!

Thanks for your videos which I've subscribed and listened to for a year or so. They are very helpful for me in trying to improve my understanding spoken Spanish as I know the grammar and can read it well with vocabulary limitations. I particularly liked your story how your learned to speak Spanish as I wondered when you talked about learning it being Puerto Rican. !Ya yo se. Your voice is pleasant as is your attitude toward learning. I will continue to be in your classroom! Keep up the good work.
I only got one wrong, lol. But I'm really beginning to understand what I listen to, and if I don't, I have Google translate. I have been working hard on getting my Spanish down for 5 meses, by watching your videos, and redoing the exercises.. I still listen to Héctor Lavoe, as well as wide spectrum of Latin American Music of all types, old and new, and it has been a big help to me. I read and write it as well for 5 meses.. I'm glad I found your channel, because I am learning about my Puerto Rican Heritage as well. I will continue to watch your videos, and keep practicing.
if you don’t mind me recommending the app spanishdict instead of google translate, google translate puede ser útil, pero para mí spanishdict es mucho mejor
I can only understand a few words (literally few), mainly watching the video to get used to the Spanish tone and pronunciation, but somehow, after hearing it a few times I answered 3 out of 5 questions right🥳 the choices kinda gave me a clue to what the question was😂 but I really couldn’t understand what the story was about if there were no English subtitles. I’ll come back after understanding Spanish grammar and gaining some new vocabulary👏🏻
i just found your channel and i want to thank you so much for making such quality videos. Im a beginner in Spanish and I feel like I could keep up easily. Also love the approach your doing with the stories and simple q&a, best way to learn a language imo
Entiendo la mayor parte del texto y corrijo todas las preguntas y lo mejor es que hace solo tres semanas que comencé a aprender español. Estoy muy feliz y emocionada. También aprovecho un poco de ayuda de Google para comentar. Pero estoy satisfecho con mi progreso.
Enhorabuena! Well deserved! I got all the answers although I struggled to grasp the final question! The sentence structure in Spanish is so complex. I felt especially proud because I have been struggling with my listening and have been doing a lot of listening exercises. Appreciate this exercise and wish you continued success on your channel. Feliz año nuevo! 🥳👏
Are you speeding up / slowing down the same audio for the different speeds? Or re-recording it and speaking faster? Just curious. Great video and cool method.
Este me encantó! I aced la prueba (the test)! Yo quiero conocer más libros en español a practicar. Right now, I'm using kid books like graphic novels (elementary level). Any suggestions that have been helpful?
Rocky is not only a great movie, but also a great teacher! I have retired in Panamá, but even with a private tutor, DuoLingo app, immersion courses in Mexico, Rosetta Stone, et al … listening and comprehending well enough to converse with native speakers here is almost impossible!! My (bilingual) friends say I am improving but they are slow and patient with me. Here in Panamá like with all native speakers of any language : they talk too fast, they chop their words or run them together, and they have their own slang phrases. Reminded me of growing up in Tennessee, and my first trip to “The Big Apple” when I was 18. Those New Yorkers might as well have been from another planet! This is all a very long way of saying …..HELP! Ayudarme! I am hoping someone of you will have some ideas for me. Gracias !
Is your dropping of /s/ on the end of words a dialect thing? Also, you use lateral approximant /l/ in place of the Spanish flap /r/ in some environments. Is that also a dialect thing, or is it a speech impediment? ... could you pronounce those /r/ if you wanted, instead of /l/, or can you not hear the difference in Spanish?
Hey! Maybe I can help with the question.. imperfect tense is used when recalling on an event and explaining what happened during a duration of unknown time, while preterite is more often used for something that had happened with a finite beginning and end. for example: if i want to say "i used to walk to school everyday" i would say "todos los dias caminaba a la escuela" but if i said "yesterday I walked to school" i would say "ayer camine a la escuela" hope this helps!
No offence but your local spanish accent is sadly one of the hardest to understand among all spanish speaking countries and i'm sure you know that (y hablo español) cuz you guys swallow the last letters of most words. To fix that for the sake of your students and your own i'd recommend you to try speaking more clearly neutral spanish slower and to articulate. Instead of saying "Mucha gracia" make an effort to say instead muchas Gracias cuz otherwise it will just keep on confusing learners...
This just seems impossible to learn… all the words are out of order. I don’t understand why Spanish says them in a different order. Example: first story… Juan is the first word in English…but in Spanish it says grandma (abuela) before Juan 😩🤦🏼♀️ Lol If they got cut off mid sentence.. you wouldn’t even be able to know what they were saying cuz you need the end of the sentence to comprehend the beginning of the sentence 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️😩🤣🤣🤣 I give up 🥴🤣🤣
He doesn't speak Spanish as most Spanish speakers does. He speaks Spanish but from PueLLLLLLLLLLto LLLLLLLLLico They doesn't pronounce the R on every word as is indented on the Spanish language. Also with his first lecture I can hear that they doesn't pronounce the J in some words like Juan, they say Uan. El español es muy variado en cada pais hispanoparlante y la mayoría lo hablamos diferente dependiendo de la región, pero de todos, el más criticado es el Puelto Liqueño por como han modificado no solo la pronunciación si no la gramática.
