      I think a lot of people aren't used to strongman diets. When Alan posted a couple recipe videos people freaked out about how much meat and fat there was. But obviously you guys are no where near fat, so it can't be too much. Also tells you how much work you guys are doing all day. You two guys gotta get together and tear shit up.

    • @WILD__THINGS
      @WILD__THINGS 7 лет назад +4

      Do you ever have sleep "catch up" days? 5 days a week I only get about 5-6 1/2 hours a night but then on the weekends I get 9-10 hours and this helps to recharge me.

    • @risspartan117
      @risspartan117 6 лет назад +6

      I think it's not so much about getting a proper sleep than it is about getting a proper sleep for yourself. What I mean is, if he can't sleep more than 4 hours, his body is probably getting the rest it needs and it keeps him going. I know I can't operate well under 6 hours of sleep (can't operate at all under 4 hours), so maybe his body is just 'designed' to work this way...

    I am similar to you. I always feel stronger and typically stay leaner when I eat high protein, high fat and low carbs. Makes me feel like I have tons of energy and I wind up slowly losing weight. That's why one of my favorite snacks (because I'm in NY) is marinated mozzarella. The cheese already has a good amount of protein and fat then the olive oil it's in adds more fat and the garlic, basil and red pepper flake give it great flavor.

    • @shpl3861
      @shpl3861 6 лет назад +1

      While most people need 7-8 hours of sleep to function optimally there are few people who genuinely need no more than 3 or 4 hours of sleep in a 24 hour cycle, its not due to adaptation, its a genetic anomaly. And your high intensity character traits are often a common denominator among those people as well. I read an article on it few years back, cannt remember the reference though. I am not sure if genetic tests have been developed to pinpoint that particular anomaly yet . Btw a typical sleep specialist may not fully appreciate the genetic variance on variability of sleep need, and might give you all kinds of pills or cpap etc devices unnecessarily.

    I understand the need for fish oils, but, can you explain why so many during a day? Thanks!

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад

      because I need to up the fat content in my diet. Fish oil is fat, so I use more than most people. And i like to spread out my intake of things. Just like protein. I wouldn't take 400 grams in one sitting and i don't like to do that with fish oil either

    Hey Brian in my assistance overhead press day to help regular barbell overhead press, which one should have most carryover? Kneeping one arm landmine press or standing dumbell overhead press?

    • @tstreino
      @tstreino 8 лет назад

      kneeling*

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад +1

      Probably standing because you have to stabilize it with your core. That is half of the game when moving heavy weights overhead. The landmine would be good so that you didn't use your legs at all, but in place of that i think the "Z" press has better bang for your buck

    • @tstreino
      @tstreino 8 лет назад

      problem with z press i think i dont have the flexibility necessary when my legs are spread out to keep my lower back perferctly straight

I'm not a vegan but I try to have a more plant based diet because I have a heart problem (bicuspid aortic valve) on recommendation of my cardiologist. I'm gaining strength and mass pretty well despite only eating meat/dairy once or twice a week, though eating lentils and nuts constantly gets boring.

    i love to drink milk. whole fat of course :D but i'm not shure if i should start doing GOMAD. i've read a lot that people had problems with it. not about the drinking a gallon but they didn't feel good with that lot of milk they drunk.
    how do you feel with GOMAD?
    Can you give me advice? should i give it a try?

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 лет назад +1

      I would never consider what i did the GOMAD diet, i just drink a ton of milk because it is easy cheap protein and i really like milk. It works for some people and not for others just like everything else. The only advice I could give is to try it and see how it works for you. Use your body like a testing lab and keep what works and discard what doesn't

    • @jeschi1911
      @jeschi1911 7 лет назад

      Brian Alsruhe oh. ok i just wrote GOMAD because it stands for a gallon of milk a day. i just meant drinking a lot of milk ^^
      thx for your advice. you're right with it and i will try how my body react to that lot of milk. but i think i will start with half a gallon of milk on training days and maybe a quarter gallon of milk on off days. just to let my body get used to it :)

    I've heard high fat diets can impact your organs negatively. Whats your opinion? Have you been checked by a doctor?

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад +2

      man, between the brain tumor and everything else, i get checked constantly. I have been doing this for probably 5-10 years now and everything seems to be ok. I would be more worried about the correlation between higher carbs and cancer/heart disease. Then again, studies are done by people who need funding and you can find whatever result you want if you are willing to pay for it. just look at bio pharma

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial

      There is no real cookie cutter answers to that because there are too many other variables. But the kindergarten answer is at least 1 gram per pound of LEAN BODY MASS. Not bodyweight. But lean BODY MASS.
