Jordan Love did a great job in the 2nd half of the 2023-24 NFL season on his 1st full NFL year as a starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. Jordan Love, surrounded by a far less experienced supporting cast than the one Aaron Rodgers inherited, got off to a slow start, but it was his final 8 games that stood out. Jordan Love especially looked like the Green Bay Packers franchise quarterback in the final 8 regular-season games completing over 70% of his passes for 2,150 yards and 18 touchdowns with 1 interception, leading the Packers on a magical 6-2 run in that stretch and climbing their way into the playoffs as a 7th seed. He also added 466 yards and 5 touchdowns with 2 interceptions in playoff games against the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers. It helped Jordan Love post better stats in completion percentage, passing yards, passing touchdowns, interceptions, and passer rating than Aaron Rodgers did in his 1st year starting back in the 2008 NFL season. Corry believes Jordan Love’s team may ask for a similar deal to the one Aaron Rodgers signed in 2022, averaging over $50 million per year. He adds that Green Bay would “surely push back” on that request, as Aaron Rodgers had just won consecutive NFL MVP awards. However, he was a veteran quarterback at 38 years of age. Jordan Love is just at 25 years of age with the best years of his career very much in front of him. There are pros and cons to the Packers way of drafting and developing quarterbacks. Clearly, giving Jordan Love time to sit for 3 years, get coached by one of our legendary QB coaches Tom Clements, and learn from Aaron Rodgers has accelerated his development. It protected him from starting too soon, allowing him to become the franchise quarterback he is today. Another fascinating point from Corry is about the unique circumstances the Packers find themselves in with Jordan Love, making it comparable to the 1st extension Aaron Rodgers signed way back in 2008. The Packers made Aaron Rodgers one of the league’s highest earners after only 7 games in his 1st year starting back in 2008. Jordan Love has completed a full season and reached an MVP level in the final 8 games before backing it up with a near-perfect playoff debut. Green Bay doesn’t want to risk having negotiations drag out in the summer or even beyond that. That gives Jordan Love’s team plenty of leverage, especially with several star quarterbacks due extensions in the near future, including Dak Prescott and Tua Tagovailoa. The parallels between the careers of Jordan Love and Aaron Rodgers are hard to believe. Both were drafted in the 1st round, sat behind for 3 years behind a Hall of Famer. Now after a similar breakout season to Aaron Rodgers 1st season as a starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers back in 2008, it’s time for Jordan Love to get paid. The Jordan Love and the Aaron Rodgers factor will likely play a significant role in Jordan Love’s career yet again. Pack Go 💚💚💛💛
