I'm an absolute fan of ballads. There's nothing better, no matter what time of year, than being emotionally moved by a ballad. Does IU Good Day really officially count as a ballad? For me, the song was always more of a cute upbeat song. Since you've focused on solo singers here, maybe you could make a follow-up video where you focus on groups known for good ballads. Very interesting podcast Jinri!💜
Global wise, musically the mainstream focus is on the upbeat and danceable songs, because of the western influences. Ballads is all about telling a story through music with different melody, sounds to awaken the emotion in people. In Asia ballads are more mainstream compare to USA or the western industry. I like 80s, 90s Japanese ballads, Hong Kong Cantonese ballads and Korean ost or Kpop groups b-sides ballads songs. Kpop is more like Korean Pop for me in definition then that it being a music genre on it's self. Kpop so many idols with differen voices that are wasted because they don't fit for the standard "Kpop genre" singing style. Sometimes I just want some main vocalist of a Kpop group sing Rock, Pansori or Trot 😅🤣. I think people with natural born beautiful vocal tones can make ballads sounds amazing automatically. My favorite Kpop idols that sings ballad greatly are: all SHINee members, especially Jonghyun and Onew, B.A.P Jung Dae Hyun (very underrated), SS501 members, Xia Junsu, Super Junior Kyuhyun etc.
