This was really good. I have seen too many colourists do a realistic animal and then a mass of colours for the doodles on Kerby Rosanes double page spreads. This leads to the animal head looking like it doesn't belong to the doodles behind it. Your picture looked like the animal and the doodles belonged together.
thanks Craig, beautiful work, I like your choice of colors and beautiful blending! What I find I dont' like is when people feel they have to use every color in the rainbow in stead of just many shades of one color. Too many colors feel chaotic, yours is serene, ; ) !
Are you still around? I just picked up a copy of Animorphia today and hope to see more great inspiration videos! I am starting with the back of the book in the Answer section - haha. I want to get a feel for the paper. I love bears so I've started with him. When I get to the actual page I will watch yours a few more times!! Thanks!
Hi, I'm still around. I've been wanting to do another animorphia video but I've got a collapsed disc in my neck which causes constant pain, so spending time at a desk...well it causes even more pain. But I'm glad my video has given people a bit of inspiration. I look forward to seeing what you have done 😁👍
@@CraigSparks_ Ouch, I sure am sorry to hear about your neck! Will you need surgery? "what a pain in the neck" ... I just took a photo of what I have coloured so far and when it is on my computer, blown up, it sure shows the areas requiring more work! haha
@@AdventuresWithRobin unfortunately it's not something that surgery can fix, or so I'm told. There's experimental stuff going on but it's at least 10 years away from a practical application. By that time my vertebrae will have fused together. C'est la vie 🤷♂️
Thanks a lot 😊 You can do it! Start slow & plan your colours ahead of time. I originally intended to do something more realistic but thought...nah, fire!
+Slippingwand 220 Not really. There would be some bleed through to the image on the other side o of the page. I think the book would've been better designed with easily removable pages, which it hasn't.
I really enjoyed watching your video! I hate the ditch! You would think the publishers would get that part right instead of having to have the colorists buying two books. Thank you so much for sharing your talent. You are great inspiration!
Thanks. I don't really start with an idea and I just see what happens. Too much thinking kind of ruins the point of adult colouring. I like to switch off.
Is this the UK book or the US book? I saw a youtube review of the UK book and the pages were thick and really nice. I bought the US book when it came out, and the pages are so thin you can see through it to the designs on the following page.
Wow, wow, wow, just.................WOW!!!!!!!! I like this style of color choice, it blends in so good with the whole picture. How much time did it take you to do this?
Craig Sparks My first, and up till now, only page was with the panther. It took me a few days to get it all done, not counting the hours of sleep, eating etc. I guess in hours it might also have been around 9 or 10, maybe even longer
Hi. I mainly use Derwent pencils, but I did buy a cheap set from a local stationer's shop. I would advise against really cheap pencils. Go as expensive as you can afford. Cheaper pencils don't have vivid pigments and are generally quite hard.
Thank you. I'm self taught so it's just a question of practice. Best advice is to buy some high quality coloured pencils. The cheaper they are the harder it is to blend with them. To start with I usually lay down a pale version of the darkest colour I'll be using and then overlay lighter shades right up to the lightest colour. Then I'll go over the colours again, building up depth as I go. The trick is applying subtle pressure to achieve an even blend. I also use a neutral colour (a harder white pencil for example) to bring some of the blending together. I hope this helps.
Lovely drawing.. but even in timelapse - its just too fast for me... couple that with the jumping camera... and I can't follow which is sad because your work is amazing.
Thanks. Was first time using two different cameras and new video editing software, so it's pretty unpolished. Had to speed everything up as much as i did so the film would be short enough.
+pesto12601 RUclips allows you to watch the videos at reduced speed (.5 or .25) which makes it somewhat easier to watch. Craig - your work is stunning!!
+PetalShine AJ I'm not really sure because I did it all in bits, which is why the camera angle changes so many times. I'd say more than six hours in total. Things like this shouldn't be rushed though.

That's very kind of you, thanks. I'm currently doing another but finding the time to complete it is proving to be difficult lately.
Incredible work! Wow ! Thanks for sharing
Gorgeous art!!
I colour in complementary colours so this was different
Hope to see more of your art!!

Thank you very much. The next one I'm considering doing in just two colours and a 2B pencil.
This is incredible! I hope you will do more videos like this in the future! You're really talented, thank you for sharing!
Thanks very much. I will be doing another & the video quality should be a lot better this time.
+Craig Sparks I'm so excited! I subscribed :)
+Keara Irby Thanks :) Next one from Animorphia I'll be doing is the leopard.
really nice work...like it.

love this!!! great job. kerby rosanes is awesome
I've passed up on this picture a couple of times, just seemed like too much. But you did such a nice job maybe I can tackle it too :)
Thanks a lot 😊 You can do it! Start slow & plan your colours ahead of time. I originally intended to do something more realistic but thought...nah, fire!
@@CraigSparks_ Your fire bear worked out well :) I just did a phoenix, so fire is still on my mind lol
wow! Amazing! i love Colored Pencils.
it's the UK version, the pages are quite thick.

Your amazing at coloring
Wow you are really good at coloring I wish I could do that
Keep at it. Watch lots of instruction videos & practice as much as you can. But always make sure you're enjoying colouring.
why is the music very scary
aries I don't think it's that scary. It's just something I knocked up years ago for putting to videos.
jeez, this is so beautifully done. how do you decide on which colors to use?
i hope that i can color as beautifully as you.

derwent color?
yes indeed
Wow, wow, wow, just.................WOW!!!!!!!! I like this style of color choice, it blends in so good with the whole picture. How much time did it take you to do this?
Thanks :) I couldn't honestly say exactly how long it took me, as I did bits here and there. Probably upwards of seven to nine hours.

Astrid S I think that's my third from Animorphia. The hours fly by quickly.
What colouring set do u use? I am inspired by your art, Good Luck
Hi & thanks. I use a cheap 32 piece WH Smiths set & a 24 piece Derwent set. The Derwent set is softer.
hello may i ask what colour pencil are u using those things seem good

ok thanks a lot craig.
What pencils are you using and how much do they cost?
Derwent. They were cheap but they were purchased more than 10 years ago. If you can afford them buy Prismacolor instead.
+Craig Sparks I can't afford them
wow your skills are super nice:) how did you learn shading? What advice would you give for a beginner, how to learn to shade best? tnx

Would love to see you work in real time - even just a 5 minute portion of color layering and blending. Subscribed..

that's a fair point and one that I did forget... thx!

Thanks very much Lee.
👏👏👏
How long did this actually take? iI understand how detailed the pages are because I have the book.

wow :o
oh my x3
wow u have really cool colouring in skills like if u agree
The coloring is excellent but I cannot f****** listen to that music for one more second
I color like a blind ape compared to you. Haha, very talented sir
Thanks very much, but don't be so hard on yourself. Everyone has it in them to be creative. Just let it flow 🙂
Me when Im in school XD
