I like that Dusty sais that the mind is not waiking up because it Doesn't want to face fearsome, while in reality the contious mind is in fricking coma from the car accident. It makes the whole moral about the stressed pointless, unless the main human heroe pretended to be uncautious to not be stressed by anything again, but it Will make him a Dick (sorry for using this word)
I think it’s more that even before the accident The Mind didn’t want to face his fears. Like, he never wanted to face his fears as an adult, and thus faces the threat of death as a culmination of his refusal to overcome I feel as though Dusty is supposed to be a reflection of The Mind as it’s courage, given how Dusty acts more like a middle-aged man than the typical courageous hero. With that, we can infer that The Mind feels similar things to Dusty about his normal life, things we don’t know about, but certainly a sense of dejection similar to Dusty. Dusty himself starts shutting down as Loss becomes more and more powerful, going on about how another nightmare will come after this one or that The Mind will just forget about him again, needing Piper to snap him out of it I also feel like Piper is supposed to be optimism or hope for The Mind, and given how much Dusty dismisses her in both games, and the aforementioned breakdown on Dusty’s end, it’s not hard to see why The Mind gave up on facing his fears. He stopped listening to hope and optimism and became disgruntled and hopeless, and the crash was just the culmination of it all, forcing him to either hold on to hope or die a hopeless middle aged man
