Loved this! Seeing the joy you get from reading in Japanese is so motivating. I can’t wait until I’m able to read ‘comfortably’ in my target language, Korean. It will open up a whole new world! 😊

I love the special covers! I found the first Doraemon book in a special set recently in Japan. Hoping to use when I’m ready for reading immersion. 😊

Love 告白, I’ve only ever seen the movie and read the English translation, but I’ve always wanted to read the book. Currently on my bookshelf waiting patiently

I also live in Japan and I’ve been an avid Japanese literature reader for a long time. Unfortunately not many foreigners in Japan read in Japanese, so I’m very excited to have found your channel. If you do like fiction, I highly recommend 小野不由美 and 西條奈加

Wonderful video !! I'm currently learning japanese to read books (and speak and listen of course, but reading books is my goal and motivation). When you ate some "spicy ramen" well... even the color says "I'm very spicy" xD

I read "The Cat Who Saved Books" and though the story is interesting, I didn't enjoy the way it was written that much... I remember watching "Battle Royal" and loving it! I didn't know there was a book; I need to check it🧐. Also, the collection you are creating looks really interesting. I hope you enjoy all the new acquisitions😊

Really great video! Hope you enjoy your new books. I read Kitchen in february and really loved it, but I also read No Longer Human this year and was very dissapointed. For no Longer human, I don't understand the hype. Really looking forward to your reviews!

It’s always so exciting to get new books and browse through bookstores. I can totally relate. And I’m very interested in that book about reading or more the lack of it as an adult. Maybe you can share your thoughts and take-outs from it once you’ve finished it? Would be very interesting because a lot of people, including myself, experienced that.
On another note, thanks for sharing your go to bookstores. I took a lot of notes because I’m going to be in Fukuoka at the beginning of November and I need to go to a bookstore as well to get a few things for my Japanese studies. So is there a bookstore among those which you would recommend going to for study books, especially drill books for the JLPT?

surprised to find I've read almost all the books you bought in english (and a couple in Japanese)! I really liked some and had mixed feeling on others (unfortunately I agree with your husband about JR 上野駅), but I'm excited to hear your thoughts on all of them

Why do all Japanese books look like kid’s books? All the drawings and colors make them look really childish, they don’t tempt me at all. I have never understood this. I can read Japanese fluently, but I never find any books that appeal to me, because they all look like they are made for children or teenagers. I have never in my life read a manga either, it’s just not my style, I’m a grown up!😅

With no disrespect to you, I couldn't disagree more with this comment. There are many styles of covers in Japan that appeal to various demographics. Many books will have several editions you can choose from that will be more pleasing to your eye. Also, manga is not a style, it's a medium, and there is manga for all ages in all different styles. For more "grown up" styles you can try "Onward to our Noble Deaths" (総員玉砕せよ!) about Japan during WWII. Or you can read "The Summit of the Gods" (神々の山嶺) about the climbing of Mt. Everest. To dismiss something without trying is something I would hope an adult wouldn't do.
