This is genius! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Super Idee, gut gemacht 👌😊
Great idea. You could always add a shower curtain on plastic rings to the rear telescopic pole, for extra protection. I've done this on garden gazebos as side panels.
I love your invention! The fact that its so easy to put up and down makes it all the more pleasurable to watch. Cheers
Thank you Shazia very kind of you, i do hope you will subscribe i need a good viewing base
Thanks so much for taking the time to show this David.
I've been in need of something like this for my converted camper 😀
Your very welcome, glad to be of some help
Simple brilliant, brilliantly simple. Very cool how you protected the van getting scratched from the bungee clip. Bravo.
Thank you i am just now developing an upgrade to this canopy please keep watching i think you will like it
As of 5/16/18, I don't know what the 23 people who disliked your video have to dislike? You had an awesome idea and made come through. Kudos to you sir! Really cool. Cheers
sarge27271 thank you very much, yes it should be people should say what they dislike and maybe i could improve from it
@David, bitching is easier. In any case, who said it needs improvement? Only you my good man can decide wether or not it does the job.....and if not, THEN make adjustments. In any case, I thought it was really smart! I have seen guy using those small garden shade things with 4 retractable legs, the kind that folds up, but it never rests even with the truck, and when raining hard, it comes through. That's why I like your idea.Next friday, when the day is done, if it's raining, set your bonnet up, sit on the back of the van, and have a nice beer thinking of me! Lol Cheers
sarge27271
Isn't that the truth?! They object to problems being solved, lol.
I use a piece of cut ply with spacer batons. It rests on the roof and doors and bungee the doors together to hold the ply in place if it’s windy..
Brilliant thanks for taking the time to show us , going to have a go at one myself 🤔👍
Absolutely smashing idea! I am totally incorporating this in my upcoming van conversion (cargo van to camper van with a workshop in the back). Thank you for sharing. It is beyond helpful 🙏 So functional. So sturdy. So easy & cheap to make & to repair. Amazing ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am ever so grateful you took the time to make & post this video. Thank you ❤
Thank you that's as good a compliment as I could hope for
That's a great idea. Worked out of a pick with a cap for years. Never even thought of making something like that and it's so simple. Thanks for sharing that.
The Adventures of Mr. & Mrs. B. Thanks for watching, im glad you liked it
Thanks for posting this. Now I have a path.
Well thought out. I'll be using your idea for my new van but its for snow, not rain. Thanks for the video!
what a fabulous idea for us with more creativity than cash, thanks
That is genius! Thank you for sharing! I'll try this on my sprinter van work truck. I've been thinking of something like this everytime it rains or snows while you are at a job site for long day.
Allen Rousseau thanks for watching and for the great comment I'm glad you like the idea I also had this in mind for a long time before making it every time it rained when on site, hope yours works as well for you it would be good to see a photo if you can
Great idea, I'm surprised somebody hasn't came up with this type of thing before and made a universal one to fit most vans, I bet they'd sell loads.
Hi Robbie yes i must agree and its been said so many times to me that its now worth looking into, but your right is strange no big company has made such a canopy
Best van canopy set up I've seen!!!...update us on how it works in the elements.
prankster671 thanks. Been using it now for best part of a year and through the last winter and it works very well
Proper fishing van !
Just needs the bed, go see my campervan playlist
I genuinely think you have pretty much thought of everything with this van
Hi Rich yes I guess so but I have had many years of upgrades on many other vans so each one just keeps getting better
@@dmgladden I'm moving into a van from my company car fairly soon although a much smaller van so it's great to get ideas from videos like yours. Thanks again
brilliant idear saw one like your's at a motor home show on a van conversion and they were charging in the hundreds for it. only thing was they had not solve the problem that the wind would blow the door closed. great video thanks
Thanks Chris for the great comment, its good to know we can still teach the boffins at the motor home show a thing or two haha maybe they should watch more youtubers
A tent pole with rubber stopper on the pointed (cut off) end
Nice idea. Thanks for sharing. I'll bet you could attach clear plastic to the front for better rain protection, and still have plenty of light.
Hi Liz, first thanks for the comment, yes I did consider that as a future add on but when in use I found I needed the fully open aspect it has when working from the back but for any kind of domestic use I would definitely install such a front
Excellent job, thank you for sharing 👍
Thank you so much, was looking on how to put an awning onto my barn door caddy.. for camping ... and didn't know how to fasten it,. Those bungees will do it for me.
Thank you i have found it still is not convenient enoght for my job and am currently looking a quicker alternative
Brilliant David bring on the snow. No excuse for coming home early now mate. Love the underfloor storage. What's next I wonder.
tony cobb thanks for watching Tony, what's next ? now that's one thing I never know, most of my ideas evolve as I work
People are so creative. So practical. Amazing. Well done.
thank you Stephanie, and thanks for watching i do hope you will subscribed after such a nice comment
Ingenious idea! Thanks for sharing!
This post is later (10 Sept, 2019; the "garage" you made of TARPS is ingenious!! What a great idea, and it's affordable for most; Thank You!! :-) :-)
Thank you for the good comment and for watching
Looks brilliant.
Nice tidy van aswelll
Robert Archer Thank you
Brilliant effort I have been thinking along the same lines for a van conversion, but right to ground level and opening flaps, thanks for the video.
Elmer Bback your welcome thanks for watching
Necessity - the mother of invention. Great diy.
Cheers
That is always the way and where or why most of my ideas come from
Brilliant... was looking for ideas on converting back doors of van into a room or outdoor shower. The canopy is the easiest. But thinking the doors can easily open up as side walls and the slide a roof panel over them... the panel either stored inside (van ceiling) or on top of the van roof.
Yes Addiscombe that sounds a great idea, glad I could give some input
Thanks Dave ! Cheap ,simple and effective ! Good skills mate !
Thank you kind Sir
Perfect nice and simple, get some manufactured in different colours best I’ve seen yet 👍
Thank you for a great comment I'd love to manufacture them but i wouldn't know where to start but thanks for the compliment
Great idea on gluing and grummet the tarp together. I think ill try it. 🇨🇦
Peter Langford yes and it's still holding but I would only use CT1 to glue it
Thanks for the inspiration David; I've just managed to fit a similar 'awning' to the back end of my VW Caddy van. 4 x bungees and a Poundland tarp (tested - working perfectly). Price...£2.25..the lot!
Now that sounds a great deal well done and thanks for watching
That right there is a stroke of genius , I'm going tae try that on the camper van
bobby crispy thanks Bobby yes when the need arises the ideas come flooding 🙄
Sow in a clear window at the top and jobs a gooden. nice work. Ct1 o yerrr wicked stuff. i use a hammock tarp over my door with 6 bungees, light weight too.
atommachine yes the window idea is a workable one as i now have the perfect product to do such a job thanks for the good comment
Great idea back doors of camper if weather not great you have great ideas
Michael CROSS thank you Michael
simple but very effective and great idea
Used to simular in back garden with a small tarp when working on things
P arjacpar thank you, yes they are very useful once you've got one that works for you
Top job!!! Fantastic!!!! Very well done, I have been looking around for awnings for our campervan with barn doors. Thanks for sharing and inspiring me. :-)
Your very welcome, I'm glad you found it interesting
Great job, Been there had the problem, I think your design is great i am sure you will fine tune it to suit your needs, you should market these i think it is a cracking idea. Well done sir.
Thanks Andrew, yes your not the first to suggest i market them but so far i am still thinking about it, anyway thanks for watching

Thanks John I've made what I think is a better one, video coming soon
Fantastic..well done!
Excellent!!
Bless him! He did a good job for an Amateur
That's true but i never did claim to be a professional Van back door canopy maker, but i am one of the best Kitchen & Bathroom fitters around which is what i do, but thanks for watching Greg i appropriate the support.
🤣 well I am a professional tarpaulin manufacturer and I am good at what I do! You done well bud with the tool you had to work with 👍💪
@@dmgladden seal seam Ltd
@@gregsmith7216 That's ideal Greg do some videos I would love to learn how to do it for real
Very good idea and it works, -- nice job! When you work like that ,, you have to be creative!!! Thanks for demo!
Thanks RD for watching and the good comment and yes I guess it is a added quality
Nice one mate.
great stuff well done dude ✌😁🛵👌
brilliant idea my friend, good for camping also
Dale Hopper thank you and yes it could be
Brilliant idea, wouldn't surprise me if some big company will copy this and mass produce it.
CaptainKidd2006 thanks for the good comment and maybe your right but one things for sure I'd get no credit for it from them
Nice one buddy i used clear ish green house pvc cover and like your's it works great.
Mohammad Omar thanks and yours sounds good
Love this canopy
Laura Kramer Thanks Laura, if you haven't already please subscribe you might find much more you love about my work
Well in mate, simple and effective a great job well done
Thanks Bertie appreciate the comment
brilliant idea love it
Good idea. Now I'm missing my van
Thanks Kevin
Very clever and handy
Thank you
very helpful.....very practical
Love how you solve problems and I am sure the more you put the awning up and take it down the faster it will go. Also great how you use hardware already in your van to make this work. Have you thought about putting a sheet metal covering over the 2 cameras to make sure they don't get knocked down and left that way by accident (like the one on the right in the video). Keep up the good work :)
FrameToFrame thank you for the great comment, and sorry for late response I will do better next time

Simon Harman thank you and its still good now after much use
good job
Thanks Jo
Great job Davey lad, I copied your idea over Xmas break and it works a treat. You sound more northwest England.
Tom O'Hawk Thanks Tom yeah your not wrong am from Yorkshire
Good job 👍🏼
Joe Framer thank you
Brilliant
Great job
Liam Devaney thank you
shud add a clear flap to cover that opening..so u can flap it up wen u enter and it falls back down...and allows u to see out...
HansumRob100 I guess if it was a campavan that would be perfect but as a work van any type of door flap would get damaged very quick but still good idea thanks
Really truly nice video, thanks a lot
Thank you
Great idea I need one of these for my LT35...
Malcolm Young well nows the time to make one and as you have seen its quite easy, let me know how you get on and thanks for watching
Nice!
Thanks Eric
Really nice! Thumbs up!
SuperDeut4 thank you
If it's that wet , i'm just packing up and going home !
I don't have the time to do that as it rains most days up here
Awesome. well done mate
Thomas Bates Thanks Thomas glad you liked it and thanks for wstching
Hi david

Gotta love CT1
GRAHAM LONGLEY some things you just stick to
Very clever 👍
Thank you wendy
Great idea!
Thanks Lucia
What happened to part 2? Did it work well? Would you recommend the Tristar? Thanks
Hi Mark, an update is coming soon thanks for watching
amazing job!
steel nora thank you
Genius, however, next van you buy, get one with a tailgate instead, bingo, there's your built in roof
Haha that's a good one a tail gate!
I hope in and out of the van 50+ times a day, adding a tail gate which take for ever to open and just a roof is not what's needed side walls against driving rain is a must, but that's for your suggestion
i searched for back door i meant stray kids' new song and i found this i-
That was a lucky stroke well done
Your a great innovator. I am too
Thank you John
A good example of need fulfilled without spending hundreds of pounds.I have an old l200 pick up which I need an awning for and looking for ideas , this vid came up by chance ...thank fuck it did not com e from the USA .PROPER JOB ASSUMING WE DO NOT HAVE A MASSIVE INCOME .
There are owners of enclosed trailers with ramps used for patios that would give their left nut for something like this
WOW Steven really! not sure i would want their left nut but you've convinced me to look into the idea a bit more , thanks
Others are out there but are of crap quality or too labor intensive for quick install/take down. We old people like things simple with longevity.
Well done sir!
JONJONWORD thank you
you should patent this
GREAT idea
Thank you
Genius
O dear, this is great! Where can I buy a canvas like this?
You can by mine if you want but you would need to collect or pay shipping no one makes these so I might start
@@dmgladden That's sweet but a bit to complicated. However thank you and thank you for this inspiring video!
You might want to start a side business though! It is the best solution I have seen so far ;)
that's smart....
To me, to you
You're ace. Just want ya to know
Thank you your so kind
Damned good idea.
Ian Garthwaite thank you
👍
What hold the two back doors open ?? Not sure what that is ??
MrEbby17 it's a ceiling prop we use for holding boards up as we screw them
