- This is part two of a recent M1 garand file I've purchased from RTI. I've uncovered several issued with this rifle and covered them in this video. I hope to bring to light some of the misleading marketing that RTI has been pushing and possibly help some collector from being scammed or disappointed in what he could possibly receive....enjoy!
Before i get 10,000 comments about the CMP....yes, i know the CMP is the way to go. I've purchased several M1s through the CMP and have several videos on my channel unboxing them.
........................................................
So you know the CMP is the way to go, right?
@@TheStig505 absolutely
Thanks for taking the chance on RTI so we don't have to!
If RTI said the sun was shining, I'd look out the window first. Brought PPSh part kits from them, all had the same part missing. And surprise surprise a few days later they were advertising the missing parts for sale separately.
Government or business don't have any ethics about screwing people over ! And when you complain about about it, they will give you a I am sorry you feel that way about it ! And I say you should feel ashamed about it!
I would wear safety glasses firing that!
We did for the first 100 rounds
I have a simple rule of never buying a rifle that sat in a goat shed for 50 years. That includes CMP rifles from the Philippines. All these guns had to be fumigated before import. I'm not sure I want to be in close contact with a stock that was full of bugs and soaked in Raid to be imported. That's just me. 🤠
That’s why I went with the Service grade IHC. New walnut stock and never had any issues. An IHC M1 for $1,000 is a steal. Also, most of those rifles ended up being sold with a new stock for that reason. If someone tells me that they want an M1, I send them to the CMP
There is no way for you to know for sure if a rifle from the CMP was a Philippines bring back.
@@masonrh1234Exactly, because the CMP actually does inspect, clean and test each rifle.
@@Colonel_Obvious I always go to the south store in person, pick out a rifle and have it inspected by an armorer before I buy it. I have never had an issue with an M1 that way. I never bought any M1s from the Marksmanship park, I did buy a 1903 there in January but I haven't had any issues with it either. I think alot of the people who have problems with CMP rifles are ordered through the mail, which to me is kinda their fault because the CMP has all the disclaimers on the website. Everyone who hates on the CMP are normally the mail order people. I understand that some people live 1000+ miles away, which sucks I get it.
@@masonrh1234 every firearm I’ve purchased from the CMP has been mail order and I have no complaints. I’ve always received exactly what I expected. They’re hard to beat in my opinion. And everyone that complains about the “hoops you have to jump through” just wants something to whine about. It’s easier than buying at a dealer in person.
I know that it sounds counterproductive, but a 55-gallon oin drum full of water and TSP (tri sodium phosphate ) solutions .strip it to the metal parts and boil the parts in the Oil drum for several hours . I ve had to do something like that for a rifle that had 70 year old castor oil and graphite that someone s grandfather thought it made a wonderful lube. Let's say that after 70 years, the action was welded shut from the polymerization of the castor oil and graphite. Every hour, we pull the cation from the boiling water bath ,attempting to open the action . Then, placing back in for a nother hour. After 5 hours, the action was finally able to cycle, but stiff . But allow access to the bolt and other parts to be scrubbed with hot water , bronze and nylon brushes, and pure Dawn dish soap.
Just stopped by the CMP this weekend (right down the road) and picked up a dated sling and shell extractor.
That rack sure looked purdy!
And full.
Go to the CMP if you want an M-1 guys.
They did have a few '03s too.
Exactly! CMP is the way to go!
You need some type of gun club membership or something else like that, right?
@@bertroost1675 proof of marksmanship, proof of CMP affiliated club (GCA is the best club), proof of citizenship, and I think another document that's voiding my mind at the moment
Man that sucks. I purchased 3 rifles from them and the only one I think I lucked out on was a Carcano. That was probably because it was one they advertised as being imported from Italy. Glad you got it running man but like you said they shouldn't have advertised it the way they did.
Their Italian import Carcano's were really good rifles. 🤠
Yeah, I was happy with what I got. Mine ended up being made in 1894. So, my FFL just handed it to me and said it was an antique. @donwyoming1936
I’ve come to the conclusion that nothing good comes from RTI.
These are 400-450 $ rifles Period , and they're trying to get the same money as you can buy a decent one for !
goodluck finding a m1 under 1k
@@madd09681 See them quite frequently , so good luck for YOU
@@madd09681 You're lucky to see them under 1,200 where I'm at
@@madd09681 CMP has them under 1K although in mediocre condition
Bit in the a$$ by a tiger…..You’re not the first.
Maybe RTI could donate their remaining inventory of garands to the CMP. Those guys at the CMP know their m1's!
Why would they donate them when there's plenty of suckers out there.
I bought one of their C-Grade Hakims. They, for whatever reason, were very explicit with those, and it was exactly what the description said, and eeesh, it was like a pushmower used for a couple seasons and then cleaned decades layer. Their reputation is well deserved, and yknow, id be ok with a rifle that has indescript broken parts if their prices were more reasonable. You cant very well sell a rifle with a split stock if said stock is unobtanium. Cleaning the rifles seem like such a silly fib to make. I dont mind deep cleaning them, so why lie about it- but thats rti for ya. $750 for a dirty garand with a who-knows bore and missing or broken parts? Ok, Im cool with that. Thanks for bitin the bullet here on this one for us so we know what to expect! At the very least, they'll only go up in cost =)
I made one purchase from RTI. It was a 6.5 Carcano and though I did not pay and arm and a leg for it it was advertised as good to very good. What I got was fair at best. I do not trust them.
Thanks for the Buyer Beware, Heads-up!
Wow…$950 for this…I paid $1,100 for my IH from CMP. Good GI stock, perfect finish and 99% perfect barrel. This seems like a scam to me
And that's why I purchased it so buyers can be aware and stay away.
A lot of people don't know about the CMP, or don't want to jump through their hoops, to buy an M1. 🤠
@@donwyoming1936 There really are no hoops. You fill out a form, have it notarized, mail it in, and wait.
@@donwyoming1936That leaves more for me!🎉
Dirty or not you should always clean a newly acquired firearm. The fact is RTI's ad claims these guns are cleaned and they are not. On the other hand he ended up with an M1 Garand that seems to work pretty well at a very good price even after repairs. And he did it himself that's what its really all about.
I think the rule of thumb would be that when ever buying a surplus rifle from any dealer please disassemble and clean just to make sure its complete .
$800.00 and you can get a better rifle, (Without an import stamp,) from the CMP, and it would function.
For 700, you can get a rack grade from the CMP that's actually function tested, and you can guarantee it'll be in better condition. I've unboxed several CMP M1s on my channel and have been singing their praises for some time!
The camera recording a mirror image can be a confusing nuisance, but it IS common across RUclips. Don't know if it's fixable.
I'm done with RTI been burned 4x's each time I had to send back.... I say it all the time Someone Is Going To Get Hurt or Worse .... be well.
With RTI, it’s a roll of a dice
Absolutely
This is why I have decided to not go with RTI. I have been on the lookout for a M1 Garand for a while and I've noticed that the prices have started to go down a bit where I'm located.
Gotta check out the CMP!
RTI has been pretty sketchy. Would have been nice if the ethiopian stuff could have gone to a more honest importer, but then again so much of it is so rough they have to lie about them to sell them at their price.
i guess im lucky the 2 guns i got form rti worked right out the box
Thanks for doing the video. Question... why is the video flipped L-R? Or, did you somehow get a rare left handed M1? ;)
The camera somehow recorded it that way haha
Left handed Garand has to be very rare. Lol
I'm not sure why the camera records it that way haha.
Yes, I want one. 😄
I was just about to say: That’s not an RTI M1 Garand. That’s a very rare Dnarag 1M from ITR.
I bought one and they said the barrel gauged at 2, but when I checked it, was 8, and it had 2 bulges in the barrel. Had to buy a new barrel from criterion for it. The out side was clean but when I disassembled it was very dirty, definitely wasn't ultrasonic cleaned.
1st time I've every about RTI cleaning their guns
Hi There 👋 Did RTI Respond to you ?
Really? No way! You're kidding right?
I've been there too though, I've bought M16 handguards from RTI before that arrived with broken teeth on the seams and dead bugs between the outer plastic and the inner heatshield.
I stick to the CMP for my M-1s. I know several people that have received nothing but garbage from RTI.
Yes CMP is the way to go!
Why is your video invirted? The Clip Ejector Release is on the left side and this video has in on the right?
It was the way it was filmed, not sure why it was done like that.
years back bought receiver only for M1 from CMP Parts readily available new barrel new stock
Hell that’s cheap compared to mine, mine was 1600 dollars and I’m still chasing a feeding issue with the last round not chambering
You can run into problems even with CMP Garands. Unless you get a service or expert grade, there is a chance of running into issues similar to what your experiencing. My brother bought a special rack grade m1 a while back and he had an issue with the op rod jumping its track. It turns out the op rod on his rifle was terribly worn. He had to get a new op rod, which wasn't cheap. The cheapest one he found was $100. I know on the more expensive grades, the armorers gauge all the parts and replace all the springs when necessary but it seems like the cheaper grades are more of a gamble.
@Winsconson-Ordinance had a similar issue I had with my RTI M1. His also had a broken clip ejector spring. I've read reports that some racks and fields have had issues. But even at their price point I still feel they are a better buy/gamble than the RTI guns.
A rack grade is still supposed to function. The CMP will generally make it right. Probably get a well worn op rod as a replacement for the worn out one.
@@TheMilsurpMan That's really not that bad. I would rather have to replace springs than a op rod any day of the week. I bought a beautiful Garand from a show a long time ago but almost all of the springs were bad plus the gas plug. It is just something that goes with the territory of buying these old rifles.
I only buy my garands from Orion7 the CMP would be my second choice
Hey, I live in here in Melbourne (FL) where RTI is located. At our local gun show (275 +/- tables) those rifles from RTI are all considered a red flag! Not at all uncommon to see guys walking the aisles trying to unload their trash.¡Cuidàdo!
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing!
I've been dealing with I/O RTI for 25 years. It's worth looking over their tables at gun shows. I've found some truly pristine rifles at very reasonable prices. Plus, they have some of the best European surplus military kit you can find. Just don't waste your money on their Grade B or C, or Shooter Grade rifles. 🤠
I saw a guy with a MAS 49 from RTI and it was supposedly arsenal refinished. Womp womp wooommmp. It wouldn’t cycle a full magazine. For the price point, it’s a shame that this happens and is inexcusable.
Looks like they professionally wired wheeled it, their famous for that. You'll have better luck with the cmp.
I've purchased several M1s through the CMP, with more on the way.
Hi Milsurp I would call in there and let them know.. they might give you a discount at a next order. Well you might not go back i understand. THANKS for showing. The CMP is the only way to go.
Absolutely!!
Shocking
Yeah, like who could have seen this coming?
@@steveh4962 shit like this is exactly why I refuse to deal with them because I know they’re really just renamed I/O inc but with the same shady business practices
Tried soaking in vinegar?
is that a left handed model
RTI HAS NEVER BEEN HONEST ABOUT THE CONDITION OF WHAT THEY SELL. I DID GET VERY LUCKY WITH 2 M1 CARBINES BUT THAT WAS VERY EARLY ON WHEN THEY FIRST STARTED SELLING THEM. YEA AND SAFTEY GLASSES. THEY WERE AT ARMS LENGTH AWAY. DONT DO ANY GOOD LAYING ON THE BENCH ESPECIALT WHEN SHOOTING A RIFLE THAT YOU HAD ISSUES FROM THE BEGINING.
I know what's wrong with your M1, the op rod is on the left side.
D***, i'd like to have that just for my collection. Those are like really rare. There was rumor that they made those, but no one has never seen one except for the one on display at Springfield museum.
Sounds like you're going to be another hundred and fifty dollars out to have somebody do an ultrasonic cleaning on it
Or you could just take it apart and clean it?
Did u contact RTI?
I actually did today. They are willing to send a new clip ejector spring for the one that was broken.
“As some people pronounce it” yea some people pronounce the name correctly 😂😂 but youre right majority do not.
I just noticed that that is a left handed garand WOW 😊
I was going to say that. They sh;use have sent him a righty!
Its RTI - A company so bad they had to rebrand themselves to be as bad as they continue to be. With so much info out there on them and the stock they carry as well as the price point.. there is no more surprised to any of this.
And this video is another bit of information for people to enjoy 😁
@@TheMilsurpMan yes i am not against videos like this. Its good to inform folks. But as stated at this point no surprise.
I would rather clean and inspect it myself than have someone else blast through it because it is their job this week.
Very true
I thought he actually had a left handed M1 for a second lol
I would NEVER buy any gun from RTI. I got my M-1 from CMP, no problems
And it was purchased out of my own funds for other viewers to see not to order from there! CMP is definitely way to go.
The only thing good about RTI is they were forced to mark their imports.
Why is this rifle a "left handed" rifle? Is it just tge way it was filmed? Weird.....
Yeah for some reason the camera recorded it this way.
But you aren't supposed to hear the ping. Internet commandos repeatedly assured me this was a fallacy and all the WWII vets who told me otherwise were wrong.
Well, you can hear it just firing it by yourself or with an empty clip. But in the head of battle with machine guns, artillery, and other squad weapons, I really don't think you could hear a small ping.
@@TheMilsurpManIn heavy combat or at long range, yes. But I knew men who fought at close quarters, nearly one on one. They thought otherwise. Whether or not the enemy really heard the ping or simply counted shots can be debated, but the soldiers and Marines themselves feared the enemy heard it. The debate will never be resolved.
You get a left handed M 1 or is your video reversed?
Looks like the video has been flipped / reversed, as otherwise you've got yourself a left handed M1 Garand with cooking handle on left side (which I doubt). Good work getting her running.
I wouldn’t buy a sling from RTI.
Stop feeding the beast. At least the $199.95 M1 Carbine and $249 M1 Garand from Blue Sky Imports came freshly reparkerized, RTI is just as delusional about their grading standards as they are with their prices.
I'm not feeding the beast. If anything, I'm making buyers cautious and beware of what could be received.....my expense....your viewing entertainment. Thanks
Why is your video 180 degrees out?
I have no idea why it filmed that way. I went ahead and posted it through to educate the viewers rather than scraping the video
Good video, was just curious! 👍
The time to have got milsurp guns was the late 1980s to early 2000s now they are stupid priced.
Don't like it, pay CMP prices.....
I man your first problem is buy an American Classic such as the Garand... through a thing called "Royal Tiger"!
I always buy my M1s from the CMP. This was a project of mine from my own expense to show others what to expect from royal tiger.
Looks to be out of time throwing brass and enbloc to the left????? rti sells junk period now
It's because the video is reversed somehow
Its mirrored lol the bolt handle is also on the left side
Why you mad about 20$ on a gun from 1944?
Oh I'm not mad at all. It's the marketing that's upsetting. Don't advertise as "100% fully functional" when my example wasn't. Especially when you can get a nicer rifle for alot less from the CMP! thanks for watching!
replace the three springs
I just stumbled upon your channel. Liked what I heard and saw so, you've got a new subscriber.
I've bought from the CMP, both Garands and Carbines and I lucked out every time. At my age and current health issues, I doubt I'll ever buy anymore milsurp' weapons. That bothers me.
glad I got all mine from the CMP when they had good rifles for cheap 😄 I got an M1C for just a little more than what you paid for that pile of crap from the grifters at rti ..
Very cool!
Gee wounder why I don't buy anything from them, helloooooooo
Lmrao at rti
Guys that complain about buying a milsurp off the internet sight unseen, are honestly the scourge of the earth
Barely hear content
Sorry! I'll try to get some sort of microphone next time. It was windy ans couldn't hardly get good audio. Thanks for watching!
Must be your phone cus I can hear this video just fine
Audio is fine for me I think its on your end
