“Disconnect the battery before you do this!” Interior light blazing away… 😂 I like your style Dan! Buzzing with another transporter build and I’m soon adding cruise too so should help a lot 👍🏻
😂 yeah I always forget to do it but thought I would mention that you really should disconnect it. Wondered if it would take ling for someone to comment on it 😂 32 minutes 👏😂
Sorry to be that guy.. I would do exactly the same though. Ain’t nobody got time to disconnect batteries when there’s shiny new parts sat on your lap! 😆 fortune favours the brave 🫡
Was gonna say the same! Haha
@@DanChambersDAC how much did the conversion cost? Wanna do mine?
Surprised the bomb didn't go off
Your face when the cruise control started working. Pure joy.
I couldn't believe it was so easy!
I had the same reaction when I did mine :p
Nice one Dan I would love to fit cruise control to mine but I think the BCM has to be a certain one. I've got aftermarket power windows I'm sure the power windows have to be factory for this to work 👍👍
Yeah probably should have mentioned that 🤦🏼♂️
I hope mine are factory
I think you can get BCM upgrade? Hoping I can on mine
Hey Dan, what year UP should I be looking for on eBay for the steering wheel? Did you buy one with an airbag or did you buy the bag separately from TPS/VW?
Vagcom is awesome! I bought a unlimited vin one about 8 years ago when I first had my mk4 R32 and it really is as simple as you made it out even for other bits
I have a kit but my laptop broke so I need to sort that out.
Where did you get your steering wheel from. Will it fit my caddy? Thanks
I got it off eBay. Yes I fitted on to the Caddy I built a few series back.
You should do more retro fits on the channel. As you say, there's not many (if any) videos out there.
When you get a chance (on another car), try retro fitting an auto dimming rear view mirror, I could use a good guide 😂👌
Cheers bud, Yeah hopefully we will have a few more on this project.
There are two black-yellow connectors on the cruise control unit. For chamber 26 and 29. The cables themselves are two different overall lengths and different connectos on each end. How do I know which one goes in which slot??
Great video matey, and you always verbally and demonstrate how a job is done.
Thank you for watching bud 🙏
Dan, I have a 55 plate T30 my steering wheel airbag and clockspring are all nackered! Will any VW steering wheel fit? If so then I’ll have to get the correct clockspring for the airbag, does that sound about right? What about what the clockspring plugs into on the opposite side to the airbag?
Any help would be appreciated as I’m having a mare!! 😂
Fantastic video, exactly what ivebeen looking for! I have had the parts to to this for nearly 2 years but not got round to it. Seeing somone work it out so competently as they go is very reassuring for a confident amature like myself. Thankyou!
Just started watching your conversion. I am keen to get converting myself! What mileage did the t5 have when you bought it? So difficult deciding how many miles is too high.
Hiya Dan I’m after changing my steering wheel I have the up wheel where can I get the airbag from or have you got a part number great videos by the way
Thankyou very much for that, it's good to know what was is gona encounter if I choose that route.
Thanks
Been waiting for you to do another transporter. 😁👍🏻
We were just waiting for the right one to come up for sale 💪 so good to be back in one
Is it possible to see that manual for installation. Can’t find it anywhere and the skoda dealer doesn’t have it.?
I’ve been wanting to fit cruise control to my 07 caddy for a while now, do you know if it’s anything like the T5 to fit? Cheers
Not too sure bud sorry, There must be a thread on a forum for it?
A MX5 is even easier: buy the cruiscontrol button, place it on the steering wheel. Replace a little connector at the brake pedal. Done. No programming required.
There’s only one thing, you got to have the right model MX5 with the right engine to make it become this simple.
That is easy!
I want to add Cruise control to my Sprinter Based Motorhome as, it is the most uncomfortable vehicle I have ever drive over a distance. Cruise Control would allow me to just sit there on longer stretches. I think it is more my age and Arthritis then the vehicle itself.
Can't beat cruise control. I use it even on shorter drives.
How do you get that plug panel out to put the wire in under battery
I just pulled it 😂 Luckily I didn't pull any other wires out!
Done now. However it wouldn't re-program. Got a new remote for van the other day and start working. 🤔
Hi. Great video 👍 where you buy cruise control? Thanks 🤝
Thank you. I just searched on Google and found the right kit for my van bud as there are a few different options.
Last time i did cruise took 4 hours in total , getting to that plug is a complete git. I went along scuttle by wipers. I believe you cant buy a rhd kit - you have to get a lhd & extend that wire.
Yeah really isn't that bad a job is it! think we managed this one in under 3 hours. This was the RHD kit, Had loads extra on the cable.
I bet you did I cheeky fault code scan and clear while borrowing the laptop. I know I would of 😂
👀 Goes without say 😂
Had my T5 for over 5 years, done plenty of mods to it but cruise control has not yet been added. Going to have a look now at buying the parts, I have vcds and will check to see if the bcm is the correct one for adding cruise control. Nice video Dan, really looking forward to seeing this one 👍👍
💪 awesome bud. Yeah I forgot to mention about having the correct BCM 🤦🏼♂️
What's bcm?

Hi Dan. Did your horn work when you reconnected the battery?
Where did you buy your steering wheel from and how much was it ? Looks so much better the UP steering wheel.
Hi, I got it from eBay, I think the wheel was £30 and the air bag was £160.
Perfect timing Dan!
Just away to have some breakfast and a coffee break at work. This vid will go along nicely haha. Looking forward to this one!
🙏 thanks for watching. Enjoy 👊
Hey Dan, what’s the trick for getting the pink retaining clip off the connector under the battery?
perseverance 😂 They are a right pain to get out. I used a pick and managed to get it out.
Thanks for the video Dan,I'm about to have a go in my t5.1 camper, you've made things a lot clearer, thanks again 👍
Thank you for watching bud. There is another T5 series that started the channel off too 👊
Awesome! Been looking for a how to video for cruise control 🤙🏻
You’ve made it look really straight forward bar some fiddly clips 😂
Too man 👌🏻🤙🏻
Cheers bud, Yeah I searched and couldn't find one anywhere so decided to make one! It really isn't that difficult!
Funnily enough i am watching this video a year later lol - thanks Dan - thinking of fitting retro cruise to my T5.1 conversion -
I’ve just bought a van without cruise control and my car has it so really fancy haven’t it done in the van…. You video is great and shown me to get someone else to do it 😂
Go for it! you do need to check a few things before though as some van's need other things upgrading for it to work.
Dan. What do we need to check
What is the name of the book and where can I get it from?
loved the vid defo gives me cofidence to try myself great stuff and the up! steering wheel looks a great mod i may have to do too cheers dan keep up the great work fella 👍
That is exactly why I make these videos bud. Thank you for watching.
Sat by the pool on holiday and DAC pops up, looks like it’s time for a beer! 🍻
Perfect day dude! Enjoy 👊
Where did u buy the cruise control kit mate
Where did u buy the cruise control kit mate
Just a thought Dan... do the cup holders work??
😂 1 does... I think 🤦♂️
@@DanChambersDAC standard then! Bin it and get a T5 Cuppy in the dash. I'm hoping to put a wireless phone charger in place of the cup holder over winter
Great Video, can you remember what the VW part number was for the Cruise control kit?. Keep Em coming. 👍
Hi Dan, Many thanks for making this video. I almost finished to fit the cruise control kit onto my T5 here in Australia. It was very helpful to follow your instructions in some critical points. Cheers! Just need to get the code put in now.
Some questions.
How long did this take including the faffing as always faffing.
Bit concerned on doing this as you say instructions are wrong on which plugs/wires to use. I wonder if mine is different to yours and same as instructions
Where did u buy kit from as they seam to widley vary in price.
Is there anything else to look out for I see someone mentioned bcm's what are these and what do I need to do. I do have elec windows 1 touch
Thanks
Nice upgrade 😎👍🏻 My T5 is the poverty spec so would need the better BCM, always wanted to do cruise control but never got around to it. Maybe one day.
Thank You Ian, I forgot to mention about the BCM 🤦♂️
@@DanChambersDAC I think enough people have mentioned it in the comments so anyone watching should see these and realise they need to check this first.
Hi mate. We’re did you get your up wheel from? Do you know if it will fit straight on a 5.1 ? Cheers Paul. Lutterworth
Love the enthusiasm and your perseverance..However this is not a job for me which I feel comfortable to attempt..Greatly appreciate the video though
Looking forward to this one
Thank you bud. Enjoy 👊
Is there an easy way to check if you have the correct BCM, I’ve winding windows but air con in my shuttle 04 reg 😊
F*ck, now I want to go buy another transporter 😅😅😅
Do you have a link for the kit ??
What diameter is the UP wheel? Is it smaller than the old T5 one?
I think it is slightly smaller, I didn't look tbf. I had one in my first T5 and Caddy.
What's happening with your house rebuild???
VCDS , how much time and effort and money having it has saved me..
Well done, I think I would still be on the armrest 😂
😂 Cheers bud. Tbf the arm rest was the most difficult part!
Hi Dan, love your videos, absolutely inspirational stuff. Quick question, I am currently installing cruise control into my 08 T5. I have got the wire through the engine bay to the electric box under the battery and managed to get the tricky block out from the depths! When putting the pin into slot 1, does it just click in or do you have to do something with the pink retaining clip on the block? I don’t want to brake it! Top video btw.
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoy the content and they help you. You need to remove the pink but as that is the retaining clip that stops the connections coming out.
@@DanChambersDAC thanks Dan. I have no clue how to open the retainer, any tips? Thanks
So the clip slides out from one end of the plug. I use a small pick to pull it out. If you look into the end of the plug where the pins are you should be able to see a little cut out that the pick fits i to to pry it out
No worries, I have figured it out 👍
@@DanChambersDAC spot on, thanks Dan 👍
Glad to help as always ❤
Thank you guys so much 🙏 can’t wait to get the parts fitted 💪
Where did you get the steering wheel from mate? Do you know if they fit a caddy? Need a new wheel on ours
Subbed to this channel for the lupo build, but I love your videos! Top stuff
Like these looking forward to more content on this nice one
Thank you Alan.
Hi 100Dan 😊undoing all those little release clips on the column would have been a bit past my patience threshold I I think, but certainly an essential upgrade if your planning to tow stuff to shows etc. 👍👍
Nice Dan some big progress and look forward to seeing whats in the back of the van. Very nice 'fixes' making it look easy.
Well done Dan, this should be a fun build..
Thank you Paul, we are excited to get properly stuck into the build
Great video, actually makes me want to retro fit to my shuttle now! Cruise control would be a great addition Nice simple steering wheel upgrade, thank you
Great video, I want to do exactly this! Cheers mate
Hoping to see a pop top installation
Not sure if we will pop top tbf. They cost so much.
Love to see you get a tool sponsor dood
Great “how to”, Dan.👊👏
Nice work mate..
Amazing video mate
Any chance you mention where you get things from for some of the items in videos. Cheers. great work. Been watching since the first t5
Cheers Ian, Yeah I forgot to mention about the BCM etc 🤦♂️
Think you sent the wrong reply 😂
Does the UP steering wheel fit a 2013 Caddy?
Yes I fitted one to the Caddy I built in a previous series.
@@DanChambersDAC thanks Dan!
Do a swamper lift kit on the T5 ! Transport HQ has one kit that looks awsome! 👌🏻
Cheers bud, Swamper is not my thing at all. We are going in the opposite direction👇
@@DanChambersDAC ok bagged or coilovers? 😊🤜🏻🤛🏻
