I love when you can reread books and pick up new things in it. I'm a huge rereader and this is the main reason why. We're always changing and growing and our experiences with literature do as well. I read Matilda for the first time last year and i was so surprised by how terrible the parents were in the book, even though I grew up watching the movie. Something about Dahl's writing really makes that stand out. I love the point you made about Matilda being such a smart, strong character that we completely buy into her adventures/magic/tragedy. That is so true. Great review and I'm so glad you enjoyed this read!
Thank you so much :) I can't believe you only read Matilda for the first time last year, that's so shocking to me. I wish I could reread more, but I have such a massive TBR I end up feeling guilty for rereading when I am missing out on discovering new books. I am making a conscious decision to try and fit a little rereading into my reading schedule this year though. The movie is amazing, but indeed it just doesn't quite do the parents full justice, probably because we all know and love Danny DeVito so much.
Matilda is such a wonderful story! ❤ The movie adaptation is by far my favorite childhood movie! Not sure if you have already seen it, but if you have the chance, the musical is also amazing!
Yes I have seen it, many times in fact :) I love it and the actress who played Matilda is just fantastic, both in that and also in Mrs Doubtfire. I haven't ever seen the musical though and feel like I've missed out there.
Spoiler Alert! Do not read if you haven't watch the movie ( or read the book ) I was shaking when I came to knew the cruel aunt of miss honey was Headmistress Trunchbull
Matila is my favorite book too. It is really sad that her ability was ignored by her family😢 But in the ending I thought it was nice when Miss Honey got her assets back! And lived with Matilda happily😆 Enjoyed your review!😀
Thanks for watching :) And yes, I'm sure Matilda is much better off with Miss Honey anyway, and Miss Honey is better for having Matilda around her too.
I agree with everything as you know! the illustrations are some of my favourite parts and I think I can appreciate them a lot more now that I'm older. I'm excited to be reading more of Roald Dahl's children's books over the upcoming months after getting through the short stories :')
I know what you mean, I don't think I gave the illustrations enough love back when I first picked these books up, probably because as a child we were more used to seeing illustrations in books so they perhaps weren't as special. This has given me an idea for a future video discussion now, haha :)
Yes, I love it and it has such a great cast too. I can't think of the actress' name who played Matilda, which is a shame as I love her in this and also in Mrs Doubtfire. Danny Devito is also amazing in this one, I love him.

Indeed, I remember not seeing that twist coming as a child.

Books are better than movies
I wish there was a sequel to Matilda, but the author is gone now so I guess we can’t ever have a sequel, but it’s great to imagine.
It certainly is.
i love Matilda

Ahh this is my favourite Roald Dahl! :)
I'm not sure whether this one is my favourite or The Witches, too tough to choose.
