Defense is harder to play today. Very little contact is allowed, and the closeout distance is much longer because of all the 3pt shooting and sudden drives to the basket. When there was less spacing you saw players 'attach' more often since they didn't give up nearly as much distance on switches.
Defense is exhausting. Offense is exhausting (although less so). Players choose where they want to spend their energy. Offense makes the highlight reel, defense does not.
I believe that you didn’t account for the fact that Mavs usually “hide” Luka and Kyrie on the opposing team’s weakest offensive players. That’s why they are both ranked so “high”.
But this stat is for isolation possessions, and we know that the people that Kyrie and Luka are matched up on aren't taking an iso, so it would generally be after a switch.
