There wasn't really any 'non cursive' writing until block printing since the romans, and even then it was hundreds of years before people actually started writing in 'printed' letters, because everybody wrote with quills, and a quill didn't stop dripping ink just because you picked it up from the page.

I think TES3: Morrowind would make a great Nightmare video. It's an incredible game, but it also absolutely refuses to help you in any way. Most everything will try to kill you, and even the things that don't still think that you're scum. There's no quest markers, and NPCs will even give you mistaken directions to find things. It's so good, and also a complete nightmare at the same time.

The cinematic camera is somewhat underrated, I use it a lot, besides the looks there are some situations where it's actually useful and practical, and the horse riding is doable if you stick it to the roads. And watching how an eagle fights on the ground with snakes, before taking off with them ... they don't that with fish or rabbits, it really impressed me, the level of detail on RDR2.

The biggest problem I had with RDR2 was that it was so 'immersive' that it deconstructed and ruined all the fun of being a cowboy. You can't really run around doing whatever you want because there are real consequences for screwing up and that's about as antithetical to making a Rockstar sandbox game as it gets.
Been insanely busy lately, had this in 'watch later' for ages. But later has finally arrived. I never get tired of your reviews, it's like Family Guy after they stumbled through the first season... you never knew when a cutaway joke was going to...slap postage stamp onto fish!

The only point I'll disagree on. Things like the theater, footprints, etc are fun touches. There are those of us who want to feel super-immersed, so we'll go to the theater and sit and experience that there. Mostly folks who for one reason or another can't go do *those* things irl.

RDR2 is a Rockstar Game with surprisingly great-ass graphics. A slightly linear Open-world that tells you to move everywhere but you’d love to walk through anyways

The reason why the mechanics have no real mechanical depth to them besides "push forward on the analogue stick and press a button when it tells you" is because that's what mainstream videogame players want. If you give them anything more complex, then they give up. This is even the case with "hard" games like Dark Souls. The only skill involved in Dark Souls than just pressing three buttons at different times. Even then, Dark Souls is considered "the hardest game EVER" by many people despite the fact it really isn't, but because it's the only mainstream videogame that is considered actually difficult.

I agree with the criticism that the beautiful story, world and characters dont match the gameplay. Cyberpunk 2077 had the same issue where the main narrative just didn't leave room for the player, the story and gameplay are from two different worlds, probably literally with separate teams that barely communicate with each other but working on the same game.
If you look up a rdr2 realism compilation video you see details that the average player probably wont ever notice, so much time and effort on things that no one really cares about and dont add anything tangible.
I'm fairly certain some of the in-game guidance features can be turned off, I just look at them as accessibility options.

I'm not shocked that a lot of people gave it tens, I just resent the fact that a lot of Rockstar games make the same supposed shortcomings of walking sims, as well as contain many hand holding and leading tropes that everyone dogs Assassin's Creed for, and yet they seem to never receive the criticism of either. I totally agree that the artistry and level of detail can make games legitimately great in spite of boring gameplay, but I often hear that Walking sims or other primarily narrative experiences where the "game" aspect is just the ability to move at your own pace and look around are insufficient... but I don't know, I'd prefer the game to just tell me upfront that I'm on a glorified amusement park ride, rather than pretend I have choice or agency. And ultimately that's how I feel about Rockstar games, the Mainline story is incredibly linear but moves through fantastic set pieces, and the actual freedom, the fucking around, usually turns out to be rather non-essential, and there are so many RPGs that justify their incredibly vast and detailed open worlds better, while either streamlining the mundane actions, or going the Yakuza route and turning them all into fun side games.

I feel like the theater is a showcase of a bit of history. Yes it has no meaningful gameplay, but it shows that “Oh hey they have theaters like this back in 1899”. I mean without it would many people who played the name discover that fact without doing some digging in research?
simply put it, rdr2 is too easy, but that doesnt mean its bad, sure gameplay might not be the absolute best, but for some reason i found myself enjyoing rdr2 way more when i think of it as an interactive movie, basically the story, writing, the way random interactions occur, its like it was designed for an "actor"(you) to "play" in a movie where they arent given a script, and in that way its pretty much perfect imo.

I hate the dumb "realism" stuff. I remember, as the game came out, some people were like "they thought of everything, even the fucking testicles get wrinkled when it's cold!!1!"
Then I started playing this game a few weeks ago with my girlfriend - she played it before - and she was like "this game is so realistic, it's the best game".
The shitty Rockstar game design aside - it is not even that realistic.
For example - trains: Looking at the wheel arrangement at the steamtrains, knowing that this game takes place in 1899, you will notice that the 3 driving axles are very next to each other. This is wrong and would have taken maybe 15 minutes of research. If you want to depict a 1890s steam engine, there should be quite a gap between the second and third set of driving wheels, because back in this time, they didn't yet figure out how to put an axle through the firebox.
Another example - Wagons: If you take the wagon to somewhere, you can observe the horses quite well - and how they are (for a lack of a better word) attached to the wagon. The straps are always loose and will change their lenghts (!) to make shure that they keep being loose. This doesn't make any sense because as it is depicted, the horse doesn't exert any force on the wagon. The wagon just goes by himself and the two horses happen to be strapped in front of it
And you know what? This is alright, that these details are off. But don't claim, that this game is like real life kind of realistic. Because it isn't
every game is gonna have flaws in its realism. you can still claim kingdom come deliverance or realistic even though the towns should be days of travel away from each other.

The intro was good sure, but it ruined replay value for me after playing it for the second or third time
Strauss(Take Two CEO) killed the Arthur, leading the downfall of the gang. Writter Dan Houser's brother Dutch wasn't satisfied wanting more Mooney, listened to a snake and betrayed the protagonist which led the company crews to their grave.
The stories are nice and the gameplay is great but they rarely mix well, I hate when a mission gets too specific or forces me to follow an npc into town in real time. If you want to give exposition then you can do that but get me to where I can make my own decisions or solve the problem with shooting, gambling or skinning animals in one order or another. I also feel Red Dead is more punishing with it's bounty system if you decide to be a bad boy, GTA will take away some money if you die then let you go but after that you're free, Red Red Redundant holds bounties if you murder outside of missions or carry a dog on your horse. These are fine games and I highly recommend them but I wish GTA6 allows more freedom in missions or not end it if you decide to shoot someone you're stalking or refuse to start a mission if you don't have a suit at 1pm sharp for an interview. They are getting better but games are meant to be experienced and played more than observed how good the story is. Just feels counter intuitive to have very strict missions and walk scenes in an open world that will give you an assault rifle by the 5th mission.

I love these because I have a habit of rewatching Upisnotjump videos randomly, and so remastering older ones just gives me a reason to do it again except with modern Upisnotjump polish but still with that older Upisnotjump style of writing. It’s like a mixture of pure goodness.

You actually can skin animals like rabbits in that fashion. Their skin peels off really easily. Most of the skinning animations are fairly correct.
Relatively accurate, but not so far that most players really wouldn't want to sit through.

I'd like to point out that skinning rabbits is, in fact, completely accurate in the game. For reasonably small rabbits, that is: split the skin between head and neck, grab firmly, pull fast and hard. Abracadabra!
Never seen it done from the head end. I break a back leg, use the sharp bone to pierce thr skin, then tug down to the head.

I agree it's not a perfect game, but I honestly did not care at all for its flaws. I know only few games, if any, that made me immerse myself in it like RDR 2 did. The beauty was that you could pretty much make Arthur be whoever you wanted. In my gameplay, he was a morally challenged guy. For his family, his gang, he would go through hell and back, commit crimes and such. Every day, he would go hunt, bring food so little Jack could sleep with his belly full. And outside of the gang... he was a hero that helped others. He was a bounty hunter that brought many to justice.
Or you could make him into a villain, who took whatever he wanted and shared nothing. A desperado.
I think scoring is and should be based on certain genre/complexity and RDR2 is definitely 100/100 compared to it's peers, if someone would improve on the flaws stated in the video, then the score could and should be dropped to 85/100.

For a while when I was stressed out I would play western-camping-simulator. I just wanted to ride my horse around and maybe hunt a rabbit. Didn't engage in the rest of the game, just ended up listening to youtubers talk about the story and all that stuff

I really wish more content creators would take on your stance on videos anytime some RUclipsr video gets demonetized they just remove it and that's it video is gone for good. But you you leave the original up and just remaster it so it is monetized. It's actually bloody brilliant for a number of reasons 1 demonetized videos are simply normally the most entertaining and it gains alot of respect not just bowing down to the RUclips overlords lol.
