- It's Mailbag Monday! Ty and Colby answer your Mariners questions, including if Seattle landing the third overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft increases the chances of a Logan Gilbert or George Kirby trade next winter, if the Mariners could pivot to Willi Castro and/or Yandy Diaz in their search for infield help, and more.

i love castillo but it feels like other teams are undervaluing him. rather have our awesome pitching staff than a couple more expensive bats that we dont know will work. idk just my thoughts. go m's
I agree about Castillo but when you mentioned "rather have our awesome pitching staff" I immediately got PTSD flashbacks from the WOAT offense we had each night. 😅😅😭😭
Yeah I mean I love seeing great pitching but i hate watching bad offense far more
Other teams look at the last 3 years and see a SP that has trended from an ERA of 2.99 to 3.34 to 3.64, a FIP of 3.07 to 3.81 to 3.91, an ERA+ of 136 to 118 to 101 (league average), a WAR of 3.9, to 3.4, to 1.8, and a K% that dropped from 27% to 24% just last year largely due to a continued decline in average fastball velocity. Those trends for a SP that just turned 32 and is exiting his prime, are usually at least caution flags for potential acquiring teams. He's still currently a mid-rotation SP and probably still worth the contract he's on based on an inflated market, but M's fans would be wise to temper their expectations a bit on his trade value, as the surplus value (if any) is probably limited in the eyes of most front offices.
Why I am getting the feeling that nothing significant is going to happen with Free Agents or Trades this season- the ducks are just not lining up
Called Deja' Vu.
Expect the unexpected
What about Schoolcraft? 6’7” 95+. And hits. Could he be next unicorn? HS kids usually underslot plus he may be the best guy anyway.
Is it possible that they can lower the payroll to say 120 million. I would feel terrible if Stanton had to eat Mac and cheese without lobster, fans please understand.🤪
Anyone else almost rage seeing Ty's hat? (I thought it was the astros....)
Colby's hat is making me sad
I really hope they try to extend Cal and then recreate the pitchers through trades. I feel like that’s the likeliest route to any sustained success.
Is packaging Gilbert(Arb) & Haniger($17.5m)trade a possibility? If so, would it be more ideal than just trading Castillo($24m), cheap for current market. Since ownerships not likely to sign our own player. Keeping Castillo will be productive vs Haniger not producing. If things goes well you can trade Castillo next year. Which trade would bring Mariners better returns? At least we can keep Castillo for 3yrs+.
The braves are going to be the surprise team my gut tells me
Castillo for Mountcastle, Ramon Urias, and Chayce McDermott (or Kremer) - let's get it done
There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that thw Ms have done that tells me they will extend Gilbert ir Kirby...or Cal, or millerz or Woo. They mught as well start flipping them now while they still hold leverage.
We had exactly no offense from whole infiled in 2024, and still got 85 wins.
Keep this rotation.
Exactly. There is no way the entire lineup falls into a year long slump again. They’ll be better in 25’
@Kazzywoo1234 give me Turner and a bullpen Guy, roll with whoever stand at 3rd base. Can't get any worse.
I think what we’re seeing is an ownership group that looked at the last month of last season and believes this is the better team we needed, and there’s very little that needs to be done this offseason. It’s a delusion.
I think we should stop being resigned to 'we have to trade one of our pitchers'.
We should be lobbying ownership to just spend the extra 45-50m and PURCHASE additional lineup power.
If ownership came back and said HEY, over the next 10 years, we'll spend 5m more a year until we hit about 200....
Fans would settle for that.
Just bring up their minor league players to fill the positions, keep their money in their pocket and can this upcoming season.
You must be thinking of some other team. The Ms don't save money and then use it later. If they save it it's just gone, and next year we'll be right back at the $150 ish range.
