Thanks for sharing sir! Plese accept this a compliment. Seemed My grandfather was telling me what to do. I do lock rabit joints without dado blades, but I couldn't stop listening to you. Subscribed sir!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for subscribing! I’m truly honored that my video reminded you of your grandfather-it means a lot to me. It’s great to hear you’re tackling locking rabbet joints without a dado blade; that takes skill! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and found it engaging. Happy woodworking, and welcome to the channel!
Looks like the trick to this is to find or make two different thicknesses of material for the front and sides. Great job for my new thickness planer. 😊
I have a huge stack of oak that came out of an old house. I plan on making a Gerstner style toolbox with it. These rabbit joints are just what I need to make my drawers... Thanks for sharing!!! I subbed.
That sounds like an awesome project! Using reclaimed oak from an old house will give the Gerstner-style toolbox so much character and history. The half blind rabbet joints are going to be perfect! Thanks for subscribing, and I’d love to see how your toolbox turns out. Happy woodworking!
@@ShopTalk-with-Buck Thanks, Buck! I'm sure I will post it on my channel. I have my first go at a box posted that I made one evening when I was working on my sister's house after it was damaged in hurricane Katrina. Check it out...
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. The smooth, clean look of half-blind locking rabbets really does add a touch of craftsmanship to a project. Best of luck with your cabinet project.
Glad to hear you're excited to try it out! It’s a strong and versatile joint, perfect for a range of projects. Looking forward to hearing how it turns out!
When I visit my Dad and woodworking friends over Christmas I plan to play with these joints. Loving the channel more and more as I watch, 10-20min per vid is certainly a sweet spot. Do you use "talking paper" much when working with others in the shop? Dad and I are constantly drawing to explain our ideas to each other when words fall short, just curious how universal that is with others...
As for "talking paper," I absolutely use it! I find that sketching things out makes it a lot easier to communicate ideas, especially when you're trying to explain something that's hard to put into words. It's almost second nature for me when I'm working with someone else in the shop or planning out a project. The old saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words," really rings true when it comes to woodworking. It’s cool to hear that you and your dad do the same!
Thanks so much for the kind words and support! I truly enjoy sharing what I’ve learned with others, and it’s rewarding to see that it’s appreciated. As for the subscribers, I figure those who find value in what I do will join the journey when they’re ready. I’m just grateful to have folks like you who take the time to engage and be part of the community. Appreciate you too!
I’ll just share I find it mystifying that there can be so many views that don’t transfer into automatic subscribers for content like this gentleman shares with us. Are you a woodworker of any level? Do you appreciate someone who shares his time and knowledge without selling you anything? Then click the dang button.
Thank you! I appreciate the well wishes. Hope your recovery is going well after having surgery on your middle finger. I'm looking forward to getting mine sorted out too-trigger finger can be a real hassle! Take care, and thanks for watching the video!
Great question! If you're thinking of something like a candle box with a sliding lid, then yes, you can absolutely use locking rabbets for the top and bottom as well. It’s a solid method that would work perfectly, and it’ll give your box a nice, sturdy finish. I think it would make a beautiful project for a new woodworker!
Thanks for watching! This joint can definitely be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's a game changer, especially for drawer making. Stick with it-it's well worth the effort!

I like that...Have to go look at the earlier video you mention. And another reason to not master dovetails...LOL.
Exactly!
This should also hide the bottom panel, right?
Good video. Thank you, sir
Yes, it does! Once assembled, the bottom panel is completely hidden, and only the front is visible. Thank you for watching!
Appreciate you.

Well, didn’t you catch it? I thought I did!
😂😂❤
