Even if Sanemi is trying to "protect" genya, he took it too far when he tried to blind genya in the manga. Genya only wanted to apologize to Sanemi due to calling him a monster for killing their mother but Sanemi had no choice cause the mother was a demon and had slaughtered the rest of the siblings. But sanemi didn't have to ignore and make it as if Genya never existed

Here's what I believe would've happened in the story if Tanjiro was at least, a few seconds to late on arriving to the scene: 1. Genya gets blinded 2. As Sanemi is frozen in Shock, realizing what he has done, Tanjiro runs into the room and picks up Genya. He slaps Sanemi (or headbutts him, take your pick. Either way, A rough hand to the cheek is only mild to what might happen to Sanemi later) 3. Tanjiro doesn't care about his own injuries he got from training or the fact blood is getting all over his face and clothes, he runs to the butterfly mansion at such a fast speed it makes a few hashira shocked (Let's say Giyuu was walking by when this happened) 4. Giyu tries to catch up with them as Tanjiro reaches the butterfly mansion and Shinobou, Aoi, Kanao, Sumi, Kiyo, and Naho get on the case right away and tends to the wounds. They can't save his vision. 5. Nezuko tries to offer her own demon blood, or a part of her body just to help heal Genya, which Genya agrees to. So, Tanjiro is left to try and chop off Nezuko's hand, but Nezuko's regeneration abilities is making it difficult. 6. Giyuu goes to get Gyomei and explains what happens 7. Gyomei is furious and upset. He is torn between beating Sanemi's ass or comforting Genya, who is probably crying from pain and the triplets and/or Aoi are trying to comfort him. 8. Gyomei beats the shit out of Sanemi (like in the video) 9. The most they can do is give Genya some of Nezuko's blood, but it barely helps and he only gains a tiny amount of his vision back where he can only see outlines and shadows, but nothing more (This could be in part 2) For Part two: Sanemi gets kicked out, and we see how all the Hashira react (other than Shinobu, Gyomei, and Sanemi) Iguro and Giyuu take it the hardest since they are ashamed and disgusted. Iguro was ashamed to be his friend, Giyuu is disgusted that he even wanted to be friends with him. Maybe this could start an ObaGiyuu friendship Mitsuri won't stop crying and even visits her younger siblings to promise them that she would never hurt them Muichiro stays by Genya's side to help him get through some of his daily tasks until he can take care of them himself. He even asks Gyomei to help him as well. Uzui (despite being retired) isn't surprised, but just disappointed in Sanemi. Sanemi is homeless and regretful. And he can't even ask Iguro or Giyuu for help anymore.
That's not how it works i think, if Genya is already blind he probably can just regenerate the parts that gets damage when he is a demon, not when he is a human.

Attacking demon slayer as a hashira can actually mean a danger towards the organization itself if a hashira itself hurts part of the demon slayer corps. For you it may not make sense or could be considered a waste of people on the organization but in the past, for errors like this, one could end easily executed or punished in a very harmful way just because he "betrayed" the rules and could be considered out of control.
