Totally agree with you- there's so many amazing artists out there that are waiting to be discovered and it matters so much to be expanding your own musical horizons and find new favourites. Love me some Hillage - I've only got his solo album, 'L.' It's massive
I live in Cincinnati and have bought records all around the world. The more places I go to, the more I realize just how great this town is for vinyl. Wide variety and most stores don't gouge you. Shake It is easily my favorite. Yes, Fish Rising is face meltingly awesome.
Can totally see that! I'm up 71 here in Columbus and feel the same way about stores here. It's a goldmine that I can't take for granted (even though i spend too much money!)
Great stuff as always! File Dirty Knobs under D (I already have the debut album, so…) Glad you found that mbv album- super shoegaze fo’sho’! Love Survivor, love Shoes, love the jazz finds…basically, you found all good sh1t, man!! 😎👍
I've always done well when i've had the chance to go to Everybody's Records. Lots of great finds at great prices. Need to check out Shake It next time i'm in Cincy.
I was just there last week (in Ohio for my first time) and was so happy with Plaid Room records. Oh man, Shake it was on the list but didn't have time, but making it a priority for my next visit. Another great video.
My Bloody Valentine is awesome. Saw them live a couple times back in the day. I dig that MBV album. Their first album 'isn't anything' is amazing too. Loveless is easy to find cheap on CD. You could always grab one of those to hold you over. I found an Oregon record when I was on vacation in Oregon one time. How could I not buy it?? Motivation Radio will grow on you. I'd recommend Steve Hillage's 'Fish Rising' and 'Rainbow Dome Music' Did not know the Ides Of March/Survivor connection hahahah!!! awesome. Peterik can write a catchy song.
I'll spend some more time with Motivation Radio.. but would definitely love to find Fish Rising. I bet MBV would be wild live! Totally agree on Jim.. cheers!
Great video. Love Delvon. Jim Peterik is so good. I went down the Jim Peterik rabbit hole myself in a video on my channel where I talked about a great 70s band that was so underrated and never talked about "Mariah" Jim wrote 3 songs for the band. And future Survivor member Frankie Sullivan was a guitar player in Mariah. He and Jim went on to be the main writing team in Survivor. Cheers
@@beerandvinyl That it is. I'm a new member of the VC and I just subbed to your channel. Emma at Eight Vinyl Low and I sub to one another. She has a great channel and I found your channel through hers. Cheers
Two things I gotta agree with before I head to the supermarket. I’m with you on contouring to expand my journey into new subgenres and bands. And shoegaze and dream pop are coming in closer. I’d really like to pick up three or four really awesome albums. But I need to find out more so I just don’t buy stuff that doesn’t really get me.
Totally.. it's the blessing and curse of this wonderfully ugly hobby. I have so much music i don't own from genres I LOVE, while also constantly exploring and try to open my mind and ears a bit. The shoegaze/dream pop thing is fresh and new and still working through it, although in that genre I'd recommend My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless", Slowdive's "Souvlaki", anything Beach House, "So Tonight that I might see" from Mazzy Star, and "Heaven or Las Vegas" from Cocteau Twins. This is my purely neophyte list!
@@beerandvinyl I used to have Loveless on CD. It was a victim of a big CD purge about ten years ago. I need to watch some good introduction to shoegaze videos again. Like I need to spend more money right now. Sheesh!
@@SDsailor7 I have their latest album on standby in my Amazon cart. The problem is that thanks to Brian at Cosmic Vinyl, I've gone back to the early seventies heavies. The Warning (and The Beaches - thanks Rob and Northern Revolutions) will have to wait, probably in line behind Deep Purple, Opeth, and Dream Theater, whenever those last two are dropping their albums.
@@musicisajourney In the meantime, check out their music on their You Tube channel so that you can see how good they are. I will recommend the Songs Evolve from their MTV VMA presentation awards show live , Disciple and live at Pepsi center 2023, Dust to Dust from the teartro Metropolitan CDMX 2022 live concert and also the song "23" from the same concert at teatro Metropolitan were the drummer is the lead singer. Other songs that you can check out are Z, from the Pepsi center 2023 and i can go on and on, they don't have any bad songs. You have now been warned! 😊👍As their fan base the Warning army likes to say (TWA)
Funny you mentioned a record store called “Shake It Records”…probably my favorite and now long gone store was “Shake Records” in Ottawa that went by the wayside in the 90s. Embryonic would’ve loved that store. I think My Bloody Valentine are ok but prefer Slowdive, just as you said. How have I missed Ides Of March? I need a new copy of that Survivor album. I got into jazz heavy in the 90s, so much of that genre is on compact disc, including a few Bill Evans in my collection.
Oh I think you'd dig Ides! You've definitely heard the track Vehicle. Seem to be a plenty in the wild and easy to find. I'll be seeing Slowdive here in Columbus in November.. can't wait!
Oregon are cool! "Out of the Woods" is the 1 I've spent the most time with. Saw them live once about 20 years ago. Very tight band! Yeah Survivor are not mentioned enough, although Professor of Rock did do a feature on them and Eye of the Tiger. My 1st music ever was the Rocky III Soundtrack for Eye of the Tiger. So as a kid, I kind of had a thing for them and that song. They have a few other bangers as well like High on You and I Can't Hold Back.
Yesss Out of the Woods is what I'm thinking of! I see that out everywhere and will have to pick that up. Survivor did have some great tunes. Thanks Kyle
Just keep throwing it in my face that you met Terry, got a tour, AND got to shop there. . . 😢😭 lol. Fuck bro, good shit! That's on my list of things to do.
That is hella crazy! Crazy good for you! I wish I had a soul store in my neck of the woods. Here in Colorado Springs, we have 4 record stores but there all rock stores. Either heavy metal, of classic rock, and everything in between that has to do with rock. And I'm a funk, and soul cat
I was lucky to find an original MBV (2013) for an insane price years ago. As for filing Mike Campbell, here are my thoughts. I file all artists by surname. But, ideally, I would put Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs under M because, in my opinion, that is a band name, so I should use the first word of the title, ignoring stop words like The or A. Similarly, I would like to put Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers under T. But, because Tom has solo records, that makes no sense because his solo records would be separated from the Heartbreakers records. Same thing with Springsteen. So, instead of filing The Alan Parson Project under A, which I think is where it belongs, I put it under P to conform to my filing of Petty and Springsteen. Lloyd Cole and the Commotions are under C for the same reason. I have never thought of filing records that are adjacent near their parent group. I think that would be unwieldy because I would have Adrian Belew near King Crimson along with Fripp and Bruford, etc. And, Morrissey and Marr with the Smiths. That seem more of a record store arrangement! I wonder what Deja Vu does? Nice finds. I do have that Flaming Lips but it has a different cover because it is later pressing. I saw them once: they were fabulous.
You’re the librarian so I would defer to you. It’s like the record Dewey decimal system! I almost spit my breakfast out with the Deja Vu comment. That will never not be funny. Thanks Brian!
Steve Hillage Produced the excellent Sons & Fascination album for Simple Minds when they were still more experimental & his band mate from Gong Mike Howlett Produced hits for A Flock Of Seagulls , Gang Of Four & China Crisis. Masters of the studio 🎙.
Mike is easy definitely With Tom petty but what do you do with people like Ron wood , Sammy hagar, and Joe Walsh, bands like the Beatles more then doubles when you add the solo stuff and I do gang all their stuff together.but it is part of the charm of record collecting fallowing the trails it takes you down
Oh man this is a tough one and different for everyone. I think I've always thought.. if they had/have a standalone solo output that truly "defines" them, they get their own section.. maybe? Who knows. It's a hodgepodge. I have Joe Walsh with James Gang.. Sammy Hagar with VH, solo beatles after beatles.. phil collins is with Genesis but Gabriel is not.. does that make sense? i love these conversations but they get complicated!
@beerandvinyl and then you have dio he's had his hand in a lot of bands he was always sought after . Good thing drummers don't do solo stuff. There's some that played 0n whole lot of projects. Like you said these conversations are endless
Hi Alex. I recently talked about Survivor on my channel. Vital Signs is the first record with Jimi Jamieson. I keep my records in alphabetical order. You could put Mike Campbell in the Cs.or put him. after the Petty records. As long as you can find your records is what matters. 😊
