- The phrase "Your Song" is great for practicing the initial /j/ sound and the final -ng sound. The /j/ consonant sound is voiced, meaning that the vocal cords vibrate to create the sound. To create this sound, the tongue is extended forward, with the back of the tongue raised near the tooth ridge and hard palate with the sides of the tongue touching the top, side teeth. The jaw is relatively closed and the the lips are held mostly closed and relaxed. Note that, this sound is similar to the /i/ as in GREEN vowel sound in both sound and mouth position. However, the tongue is held closer to the gum ridge.
The /ŋ/ created by the letters N & G, does not sound like /n/ and does not sound like /g/. To make the /ŋ/ sound, raise the back of the tongue until it touches the soft palate - the soft area at the rear of your mouth. Do not release the tongue as you pronounce this sound. Many non-native speakers of English mistakenly release the tongue and create a hard G or K sound. The tongue should remain lifted and air flows through the nasal cavity. Try to hold the sound and feel the sound vibrate through your nasal passages.
To practice the /oʊ/ as in ROSE vowel sound, repeat the line, "I hope you don't mind." The /oʊ/ sound appears in the words HOPE and DON'T.
To practice the /w/ sound, repeat the line, "how wonderful life is while you're in the world" (HOW, WONDERFUL, WHILE, WORLD). This line also provides practice of the /aɪ/ as in WHITE vowel sound, in the words LIFE and WHILE, and the /ər/ as in PURPLE vowel sound in the words WONDERFUL (2nd syllable) YOU'RE and WORLD.

That's great; thank you. If you are using the videos to work on your English, be sure to check out my sister channel, @VividEnglishUS Thanks for watching!
WHATS YOUR SISTER'S CHANNEL AND NAME?
My sister-channel,actually my primary listening and pronunciation practice channel, is Vivid English and it can be found using the RUclips handle @VividEnglishUS All of the videos on Vivid Lyrics were originally posted on Vivid English. It became necessary to split the content into two channels because the music videos attract music lovers who aren't necessarily working on their English. Due to the way RUclips works, the popularity of the music videos made it harder to reach my target audience of English language learners. All the songs can still be found in playlists on the Vivid English channel....because songs are a GREAT and FUN way to improve your listening and pronunciation skills.
Amo questa canzone...amo Elton John e quello che rappresenta per me❤❤❤❤
Google translates this comment from Italian as, "I love this song…I love Elton John and what he stands for to me." Glad you like it! Are you practicing your English? This song is great for practicing a lot of sounds....but most especially the /ŋ/ sound created by the NG letter combination, as well as the /oʊ/ sound in the words HOPE and DON'T. Getting movement in your O sound can be a challenge! :) Happy to answer questions if you have any. Thanks for watching!
WELL. I LIKE THIS SONG. GOOD JOB ELTON JOHN
Yeah, I also don’t mind that he put down the words. 🤣 In fact, I’m glad he did. Thanks for watching!
