Clyde Rigney, 58, lives with his wife Rose at his birthplace, Raukkan; a small Indigenous community situated on the shore of Lake Alexandrina in South Australia.
Raukkan means “meeting place” in the Ngarrindjeri language and for thousands of years was an important meeting place for Ngarrindjeri clans.
Clyde is employed to coordinate Raukkan’s municipal services; including the school, training centre, clinic, café, youth and vacation care and housing program. He also works to establish and maintain partnerships with other Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, government and local industry.
“We have eighty per cent of our community involved in learning so we think of ourselves as a learning community,” said Clyde. “What I’m passionate about is that we actually help people to see that they can change their lives and also the lives of the next generation. God has a big part to play in changing lives.”
“I’m grateful for the unity that exists now in lots of the Indigenous communities. I think that we’re a lot stronger in our relationships across the state than we’ve ever been,” he said.
“As a nation that’s getting older, I think we have a responsibility to grow up. God asks us to love Him with all that we are, and then to love our neighbour like ourselves. I think it’s quite a simple process, if we’re willing. God can change our lives if we’re willing.”

Thank you Uncle (in my cultural when you are called by the title uncle, even though we are not related by blood, its a sign of deep respect and honour and that we are family. We share our pain and pur joys) Clyde. I have so much deep respect for you. Everything you said, is our freedom to embrace and enjoy God's forgiveness and our spiritual growth, mental health, our social standing, our identity, who we are, first of all, in our Heavenly Father, and secondly Where we belong, whom we relate to and our survival.
I am from Papua New Guinea... I love your testimony..such a wonderful inspiration. God bless you and your family and enrich your life to be a blessing.
With love and prayers
Badi, from Papua New Guinea.
Thank you Badi. We agree! Such a powerful story, and important. God really spoke through Uncle Clyde. Glad you were touched by his story
There are times when I find it easier to love a 'neighbour' than to love members of my family...but then I am reminded that they are 'neighbours' too. Thankyou for sharing Clyde and reminding me yet again. Though I am older in yrs than you you are further down the road! Bless you in yr relationship with yr father and the sons in yr community and I also pray that we all learn to really love others and see them as God sees them.
Thank you Clyde for your words of truth & wisdom. We have a long way to go before complete reconciliation between white & black but praise God it has started.
Well done Clyde... especially on the fathers/men’s view... take care goorda 🔥❤️💛🖤
Thank you Clyde, we men need to be reminded of these truths.
Blessings in Jesus,
IanK
Thanks for your thoughts Clyde. There is much wisdom in what you say. We all struggle with treating our neighbours the way God wants us to treat them. One preacher recently said, "The church is full of murderers-there are more murderers in church than in all the jails, because Jesus said that if we hate our brothers, we have committed murder in our hearts." Lord, please help us to love our neighbours..
O Lord, our Father in Heaven, thank you so much for what you've done for us and what you are still helping us to become more like Jesus, thank you for not giving up on us, please Holy Spirit enable us to persevere and endure like Jesus with peace and compassion for we all 'don't know what they are doing'. Please change us, change us, change us for we trust in your unfailing love......In Jesus mighty name, amen.
What a beautiful testimony , Thankyou for a simple answer to our breaking down of walls . Jesus commands that we love one another , as I have loved you . John 15 : 12.
Neighbourly Love
Yes, we've ALL hurt others & need their, & God's forgiveness. When we realize this it is easier for us to forgive those who have oppressed & failed us. Only a close relationship with God/Jesus, & His love in our lives, makes this truly possible. We have all abused & sinned against God & need His forgiveness, which He freely offers right now, without any conditions or work on our part, except repentance.
