  • Three different electric buses being demonstrated to the TTC at Eglinton Garage. TTC is ordering 10 of each model which are set to enter service in early 2019.
    Note: The first clip is the buses leaving Birchmount Garage
    Disclaimer: I had permission to briefly enter the property to get a few shots, I was not trespassing.

    I would like to see new flyers come back to TTC (plus I like the look of the xcelsiors best..) I've only seen vids of the MTA NYC electric buses, so I'm not sure which of these is better in terms of performance, but the XE40s sound real quiet. Overall, it's nice to see something other than novas

    If the Orion Vii is being replaced, what did they deserve to get this?

    30 Buses is a good first step however I think they could do better. Edmonton, a smaller city with lower transit usage and a smaller fleet is ordering 40 electric buses and promised to no longer buy diesel buses.

      These buses were ordered as test vehicles as a prelude to future large orders. The TTC wants to see which performs better for them under their conditions of usage.

    I personally got nothing against the Novabus LFS because to me they're like the modern day GM New Looks because they too have a rounded windshield, but much like the GM Classics. Like some of you, I do wish TTC had New Flyers again both 40 ft & 60 ft Articulated that way TTC would be as versatile again as it once was 20 years ago 😃

      Pretty much every bus has a rounded windshield, that aside putting the LFS and the New Looks / Classics in the same category is disrespectful, the New Look was revolutionary for it's time and the Classics brought a more modern-design to the New Look, there's nothing special about LFS'.

      Having better suspension isn't always good. NovaBus LFS only improves on emission level, eases rattling, and more faster. Disadvantage of it is that it's out of control because of too much suspension, a waste of capacity, not as safe because of how the rear doors operate, and when about to halt, it likes stops out of control like that I'm about to be pushed. Trust me, I have rode on those and in my opinion, they do have to improve on those if they are ever creating a 5G.

    • @TechnicaProductions
      @TechnicaProductions  6 лет назад +3

      That's because the bus isn't using the actual air brakes, its using the regen brakes when the driver lets their foot off the accelerator. Those LED strips at the back come on when the bus decelerates but isn't using the air brakes.

    • @RyanHolliday211
      @RyanHolliday211 6 лет назад +4

      That is really a terrible design. If it slows down that significantly when the driver lets their foot off the accelerator, the brake lights should come on. However, out of the 3, that is the least impressive bus anyway based on this video. Very loud for an electric vehicle and it is straight up ugly (especially the top bit trying to cover up the battery packs).

    Alot of TTC bus interiors are poorly designed everyone can agree the current busses are too bright and feel small and those seats in the back where people are forced to awkwardly look at each other are annoying and the AC and heater doesn't work most of the time or the lazy bus driver just opens their window in the summer while everyone in the back is being cooked alive
