Ok I'm just pausing now after harstem's talk about not putting yourself down and I got to say that it was actually super nice to hear. Not all of us will make it to masters and the fact that someone made it to diamond shows an achievement that I for one am proud of :)
Unless you play on KR being GM is top 0.50% of players. Even masters you are top 3.5%. Diamond top 25%. Most people still playing SC have been playing it for over a decade so even diamond players should be proud. Watching starcraft and knowing what to do is alot easier then actually pulling it off ingame without mistakes.

Thank you Harstem!!! (and Hamster!!!) It did mean A LOT to me for what you said in the beginning and Hamster's notes! Being one of the young ones in the group of friends I play with, they tend to get a bit out of control with their jokes (maybe it's just because I lack a sense of humor or I'm just too sensitive). I always felt that I didn't belong in the diamond league beacuse of that! This episode was extremely helpful and inspirational, I promise to keep in mind each and every advice you give me! And I will never stop practicing no matter what happens or whatever my friends say! I shall work on my micro and game understanding, till the day you see me send my application to TL!

Honestly Harstem and Hamster are becoming a great team. Before Hamster mostly worked as a supplement to Harstem but now I feel like they are two parts of a whole.

Did Hamster intentionally leave out the ding sfx for his messages? I was 10 minutes into the video wondering why he hadn't been chiming in, before I realized there was just no sound effect.
They have been removed about 2 months ago as a test ^^ But we are thinking about bringing them back in some form
@@hamster_designs as a fellow editor I think you should add the sfx (or whatever other sfx you like) back! It’s nice to see your little comments but if you don’t have the sound effects sometimes your fun little comments can get lost without the sound. Also, I aspire to be as good as you as an editor, your level of creativity, production and witty-nes is something I really admire.

I would just say that the message at the very top at 3:09 was totally missed by me until I rewatched that section. The problem was the top YT bar was hiding it as I kept moving my mouse, shifting the time, etc. until I went back far enough and let my mouse sit, I saw that message.

Harstem was nice to this guy because he felt bad at seeing a guy live down his achievements. Sometimes a confidence boost and some friendly advice is all one needs to improve.

A rare CN iodis that the person sending it is self-aware and isn’t overselling (but underselling) the video and their skill.
Though the entire video has symptoms similar to every other before it which is a decent opening, bad choices and questionable follow-ups.
His only mistake was not to split. I bet Maru would make it work going for libs instead of tanks, and then everybody on the ladder would do it, too, and Harstem be like "this is indeed a viable build order now..."
26:30 Aww, that's not fair, he doesn't suck. This is definitely one of the better players i've seen on IIIODIS, early game macro was really good, zerg just got a load of fungal/bile combos hitting loads of clumped units, trading extremely efficiently. Both players were good here. But good advice from Harstem in the midgame on what new structures to build in what order.
Hey, I understand what you mean. Fact is: he played really well early game for a 3.2k. After that he tried to skip midgame and go straight to a lategame army comp. and had too many bases for the infrastructure he had. And let’s be real, my friend with 2.6k Gold has better unit control. I feel bad for this guy too and he maybe doesn’t suck, but the Imba complain is not true so harstem has to put a Suck stamp on it. That’s life..
And like I commented above, I agree with harstem bringing up extremely productive advices!
Harstem is nitpicking like my girlfriend during her period. "This makes no sense" isn't good advice either. His micro sucked, his macro though was good enough to get him into diamond. And since no pro is ever going for Roach Infestor, people who have only learned by copying don't know how to respond then - and Harstem didn't tell him.

When moving forward leave some units sieged to protect the push.
For infestors presplit your army. Dont fight in chokes/ramps, kite them into areas where your ranged splash can take effect.
(Added: Zerg excels in open fields, don't fight to their strengths).

I‘m a protoss myself and my Terran sucks. But I feel like my understanding of how Terran works really improved in a few minutes. How to get to diamond with luck: there's always those insta-leave MMR tankers, esp in low elo. I once got queued against them like 5 games in a row. That's something like 200 MMR if it's your first 20 games.
Someone's bound to get even luckier and queue into them something like 10 games in a row. That's a free boost from plat 3 to diamond 5

I can relate a lot to this Terran, although his macro is probably a bit better than mine, too but his army control and lack of patience/ splitting/ clumping is so relatable!
It's really sad that all the pros go MMMM only and all the other players go copy-pros-only. Blizzards crappy game design. With bio you do need lots of mechanical but little strategical skill. Just the build order and you just go split and kite all day, no matter where. You can also beat a lot with just MMM. With mech that's a different story, for instance you can't just load in everything into medivacs and then boost away. So you need to plan your moveouts correctly, siege in time, use the map, and build the correct counters.
The experience really shows in this cast
174 for diamond is quite common, I'm a platinum toss and even when I'm slow I play on 150-160 apm, on my good days I average 175-180 and on my best days I even get to 200-205 apm average.
People are getting faster with time, not to mention younger players (I'm 25 and I consider myself kinda old to react super fast to things) who have better reflexes.
at 11:52 he is long sitance mining and starts his 3rd base orbital while it is still in the main. if he flew it to the 3rd and stated the orbital there he would've had slightly better eco in that time period

I would say that the only serious mistakes here were related to rather advanced micro: splitting marines, splitting liberators and sieging them separately. This imho is pretty difficult, it feels harder than casting fungals or borrowing lurkers. So, I would say that the balance complaint was reasonable.

@@whdshwrthmsk6425 this is not. But figuring out where infestors are and splitting marines accordingly is quite advanced to me. Also, sieging liberators one by one also feels quite advanced.
@@dmitry5319 Generally, yes, but there are still very simple micro things that he could have done better. For example, at 18:00 -- don't chase infestors with his entire army. Stop the group, then quickly select the front 8 marines/maraduers, and chase with that. He didn't need 30 units to kill 2 infestors -- all he did was make the Zergs job easier. But the main thing is to go slower, kill more creep. Very easy for a Zerg to fungal when they know everytime their enemy is going up a chokepoint ramp.
you're forgetting another big mistake: not getting the right unit counters. The player already admits that he didnt get the right counters, and that definitely cost him the game here as well. Just a couple of tanks would've made a world of difference. In that aspect I wouldnt call the complaint reasonable: is it reasonable for a player to say that carriers are imbalanced if you dont build a unit that can attack air?
@@Melchior yes, I agree, but it also feels a bit too much. if you are selecting 8 marines, they will take more time to kill infestors and infestors may be able to run away. So, I think, he should have not chased them. But this comes after thinking about the setup for a while. During the game this kind of thinking is hard. Moreover, you are not only microing but doing other things. So, i would say it is hard to blame terran at that level for doing this kind of mistakes

I'm a diamond 2 zerg player, and I think I wouldn´t have beaten this terran. Was actually a good game. Zerg floated more resources the whole game.

this was probably the best IIIODIS form, the player didnt point fingers on a bunch of things and acknowledged its own limitation/weakness or lack of knowledge and simply asked for advise on how to improve .
personally that's a 10/10 form and that type of mentality has a ton of room for improvement !

Negative first time I started playing I was tossed into Diamond league because every match I went against before I was had "placement" quit within 10 seconds. I am high Gold, low Plat by skill.

5:10 any link/ description/ video to that build order in detail please? Especially the follow up pushes are hard to follow imo with the specific timings. I always do the first push and then I'm unsure when to move out again or what my target supply should be...

You could do a compilation video every month showing just the funniest stuff you said. If this had guy had of gone tanks with his marines at the start it would have been over. Tanks are the bane of my life in mid game tvz. As a zerg player you just cannot engage in the same way he could here. The dude was basically handed the win.

In WoL season 4 of 2011 i made it into gold because i was playing games at 3am and 2 gold players quit the game as soon as it started and i cheesed a win on a platinum guy right after. So the game promoted me... And i knew i peaked and i would never be able to stay there so i stopped playing that season. I didn't make gold again before 2013 from actually getting better at the game.

I'm diamond all 3 races, and my terran totally doesn't belong there. I don't know any terran builds, I just throw waves of random crap until the other guy swears at me.

Harstem what would you say is best toss defense against lib, tank, marine comp?... I am so tired of being pushed with that comp...
Tank marine are slow when pushing, have a bunch of stalkers, pick off the reinforcements before they get a critical mass. Marines die to collosus. Get disruptors later on. Libs get wrecked by tempest, keep the terran siegining from their side of the map and you buy yourself plenty of time till they get to you.

@@sykedem_yt6254 in Starcraft it rarely is the micro. Unless you are making really big mistakes, a minimal micro knowledge will get you far. Check your replays, look at your worker counts, unit counts, upgrades, etc. Usually that's where the problem lies, not with micro.

Harstem, there is a thing which happens at what you would call "The lower leagues" which probably doesn't happen at your level and justifies his statement about luck. A lot of people instantly leave games to Spoof a lower MMR than they should have because they want easier opponents. The flip side of this is somebody gets force fed MMR which they may not be ready for. For example, I earned by way out of Gold league with Terran into Platinum 3. Then I had a strangely long streak of people instantly leaving, which put me into Platinum 2 Then I got my butt kicked repeatedly. I didn't earn my way into Platinum 2, I got there by luck. This is probably what this guy means. I will watch the episode now.

i am curious why tanks would be considered the best play vs infestor roach devourer here since they can be killed with the bile drops soo easy (esp if they get a few vipers then tanks are completely useless)? are there no better options? or is the advice just to have a few for support at all times (instead of the liberators since they both would die equally fast but you might spread them out more)
I definitely get tanks vs roaches early game, but it seems like once they transitioned to using biles having stationary units in general is completely pointless and asking to give free kills
