As an alarm technician, thats not what stopped the beeping. The keypad is beeping because it's throwing a trouble (the yellow triangle). I bet the trouble is a phone line disconnection or com fail. All you have to do is acknowledge the trouble. Hit the pound key once and the beeping will stop (until the next trouble is thrown). You were able to silence it because the system takes different actions like turning a feature off or on as an acknowledgement of the trouble. If you wanted to figure out the trouble, hit the * key, and then hit 2. * is like an enter or menu button, pound (#) is like a cancel or back button. This is an ADT DSC system if you wanted to google for more information. ADT also uses other panels like Honeywell or Ademco and the instructions would be entirely different.
