This makes me feel so much better because I made it to a semester and 1/2 away from my Bachelor of science in psychology and I fell Ill and couldn’t get back into school.! Now I will leave that behind and work hard on my future! ❤️
👏🏼👏🏼This fuels my why - my business building/scaling is to give me the asset of time to work on supporting teens and disrupting the education system (with positive intent!)
I agree that a degree doesn’t always equate with $ nor job security. Yet neither does owning your own business. My husband and I have both and it’s been difficult to make ends meet. Btw, STEM are really the only ones that need a degree.
I recently graduated from university and speaking from my experience, I can honestly say it was a complete waste of time. I studied dance since it has been a passion of mine from a young age. before university I trained for 5-6 years with the intent of taking my dance to the next level. During this time my technique greatly developed and I had many opportunities, including performing on the pitch of Wembley Stadium and performing in the opening ceremony of the world Tae kwon do championship. However, I had to give up this in order to study at university. During my three years i realised my expectations were higher than anticipated with fewer opportunities then I was used to. That been said covid greatly impacted my university experience and with out that I’m sure thing would’ve been much different. Reflecting on this I believe university is needed for some course such as medicine, however as for most courses the information provided is accessible through online and other means.
Great video Simon! I agree that most of the time, you don't need a degree. Yes some jobs require one and in some scenarios, having it will give you more chances of getting hired. But if we're talking about business, you don't need that piece of paper. I'm still in my 3rd year of college and I feel like it's been a major waste of time.
I always say tik tok and RUclips is a free university that you can learn alot and the rest it’s on you to follow and make it happen . At the age of 32 i never been in college which was my dream but I couldn’t for so many reasons but instead I decided to learn money management and learn about stock marketing and etfs ot bond and asset to be able to make money in other way and also use internet to follow my hobbies and try to make them into money as well. The motivation is I don’t want die poor
Going to be interested in a future where there’s no linguists, zoologists, geologists, archivists, neuroscientists, lab scientists, physiotherapists, economists, etc because this generation believes there’s nothing more to life than learning business or coding on Udemy and then making money but still lack the education to read critically, identify fake news and write coherently. College isn’t a scam, not every person in the world needs to go but there’s more professions to train for than doctors and lawyers. Undergraduate degrees are not the only function of universities, they are powerhouses for important research and the keepers of societies knowledge. Also, people in the UK don’t get into debt to go to university. Student finance UK is a essentially a small extra tax of £20 per month which is written off when you turn 50. It’s not a commercial debt, it is not on your credit report and has no bearing on getting a mortgage or anything else. Statistics consistently show that those with degrees make more money over a lifetime than those without. Please don’t spread misinformation. Universities aren’t going to be dismantled because some people don’t understand the impact that university research has on innovation and society. Please don’t discourage young people from going if they want to deepen their knowledge for 3-4 years or more, especially in the UK when it costs essentially nothing for someone from a poor family. Spreading this misinformation is not worth getting clicks on videos.
Appreciate you sharing your perspective! "Statistics consistently show that those with degrees make more money over a lifetime than those without" Did you watch the full video before commenting? I believe this to be skewed.
It’s a nuanced convo/debate. But to simplify, i tell ppl don’t go unless ur absolutely certain what u want to do AND it *truly* requires degree (a lot biz jobs dont, just get professional certs).

Hello Simon can you help my daughter who has a bachelors degree in psychology, become an entrepreneur? She has a degree that she cant use! You are right.
@@SimonSquibb my daughter lives in the UK so i do not know how you could help or what kind of help you do offer but i know she wants to become an entrepreneur, like maybe an online business eventually and she needs direction andvice as well as capital.
There's a huge demand for life coaches nowadays. Build a web page with being main subject and surround it with things related to life ( affiliate marketing)
@@David79560 That sounds like a great idea, but she would need advice on how to design the website to make it appealing etc. I guess she could do some research into that. You are right Life coaches are in demand indeed.
You ought to retitle this video “Should you go to university if you want to be an entrepreneur.” You’re going on about university doesn’t teach you how to make money, well that’s correct, that’s not what people go to university for. Do you think a doctor puts in all those hours and hardship for the future pay check? I like your videos, but I’m sorry you’re doing yourself a disservice with the information in this video. Self made people seem to have a vendetta against university graduates. If you want to go to university then the thing to keep in mind is they are a business. It is down to you to get your degree and know how you’re going to use it. Universities don’t lie, they act as a purveyor of your degree in exchange for money. If you do a useless degree and don’t know how you’re going to utilise having it then that’s on you and nobody else. I’m not an entrepreneur, but I would agree that if you want to be one then a degree is unnecessary, but university is not a scam. It is a tool to get you a piece of paper if that piece of paper is important/necessary to your future plans. If you go to uni and do a degree in an obscure subject with no future plan in place because you think it’ll be a three year p*** up then you’re not being scammed, you’re just a 🛎 end Edit: I do however think the market is awash and choking on graduates who think they should be chairman of the board and I did like the idea at the end about closing unis for three years 😂
Fax. But tbf It’s a nuanced convo. don’t go unless ur absolutely certain what u want to do AND it *truly* requires degree (a lot biz jobs dont, just get certifications).
Simon, you make some good points. Everyone who attends college doesn't need to attend. Some do need to attend college but not everyone.
That’s always been the case. Lmao.

Good luck!
If you want to do that kind of work (ie tele therapy) u can get professional certifications instead.

Some of the most revolutionary discoveries in the 18th and 19th century were made by men who’ve never stepped in Universities.

Fair point Rob. Although for 90% of people, degrees are pretty pointless.
