Put the new hive in the place that the old hive was and the field bees will come to it easily. You should try to put the old frames in the center of the box with the new frames on the outside of them on either side. You're doing good, stay calm and move slowly. It's a wonderful thing to know. Lots of fun and good honey. Hmmm good.

Holy smokes! Do you have a Hefty-G tractor? I thought we had the only one in the US. Dang! Ours is set up for research plots/breeding.

Welcome to beekeeping. Youve already made your first mistake of many. More than smell, bees orient to a specific location. You shoud have set your new box at the location that the bees had already oriented to. Move bees 2 ft or 2 miles is the saying to remember. Because this is the only hive in the area, you are probably ok. However, the reducd landing board activity suggests you may have lost a considerable numbef of foraging bees. Not only thosd who were out but also the ones who left the hive that had already oriented to the other location. Google orientation flights to learn more. Good luck to you.

1967 l came home from school to find UPS had delivered 50 boxes of Bees. Dad ordered them and my older brother & l were going into the Honey business. That fall we harvested over a hundred gallons of Honey. We sold it in 60 Lb metal cans to bakeries. ben/ michigan
