- London - the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Divine Wisdom (Hagia Sophia), the interior. Let's travel to the city of London and let's visit the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Hagia Sophia (Saint Sophia) which is a Greek Orthodox church on Moscow Road in the Bayswater area of London. Hagia Sophia was consecrated as the Church of the Holy Wisdom on 5 February 1882 in London by Antonios, Metropolitan of Corfu, as a focus for the prosperous Greek community that had settled in London, particularly around Paddington, Bayswater and Notting Hill. Today, in addition to its regular Saturday and Sunday services, the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Sophia hosts a Greek polyphonic choir, Byzantine music, and an associated school in which pupils discover the history and language of Greece and take Greek dancing lessons.
The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Hagia Sophia in London has a Greek cross plan, with four projecting arms forming a nave, transepts and sanctuary, the latter facing facing north; to the south is a narthex with gallery above, to the east a vestry. A crypt runs beneath the eastern portion of the building.
The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Hagia Sophia (Saint Sophia) is a Byzantine Revival design by architect John Oldrid Scott. Scott was responsible for many significant British churches, and was subsequently commissioned by Ralli to build St Stephen's Greek Orthodox Chapel in West Norwood Cemetery in 1873.

What an art! What a beautiful church! Is there any links between this church and the Hagia Sophia in turkey?
Thanks for visiting! 😊😊😊This church here in London was named after the one in Istanbul, both of them Christian Orthodox and Greek (AyaSofya in Istanbul is in today's Turkey and a mosque)
i really liked this video it would have been cool however to hear more of the music coming from the church rather than music over the top, i hope you dont mind me saying so, i was just really enjoying listening to it, but id love to visit this place as im in the uk , starting to get interested in the byzantine world, didnt know we had this church here
I see what you mean, thank you for your comments! I did not think the camera was capturing the sounds from the interior of the church well enough, this is why I added my music later on... I hope that you visit this wonderful Cathedral one day..
Exceptionally beautiful workmanship. The pendentives have the winged angels like the pendentives of the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. Thankyou for posting.

Hi Janell, Merry Christmas to you! 🎄 🎅
😀😀😀
Σας ευχαριστώ πάρα πολύ! 😊😊😊
I noticed that the Seraphim, the six winged angels on every side encircling the dome, are almost the same as the ones in the original cathedral of Aghia Sophia in Constantinople. The architect used elements of the original Aghia Sophia in the new one in London.
You are absolutely right, many features were copied from Hagia Sophia and were used here but in a smaller scale of course.
