IM OVER 80 YEARS OLD. I HAVE NOT WATCHED A MUMMERS PARADE SINCE 1960. THAT IS THE YEAR I WENT OFF TO WAR ON JANUARY 15. I SPENT 60 YEARS BEHIND ENEMY LINES AND WAS A PRISONER OF WAR FOR 15 YEARS OF THAT 60. I FORGOT ALL ABOUT THIS PARADE UNTIL IT POPPED UP ON MY FEED FIVE MINUTES AGO.
I love me some South Philly Vikings. In fact I felt they should have won in 2018 when they did the 'underwater' theme ( King Neptunes Return To The Reef). The costume design, the set design , the props, the music, the energy, it was all there. This was an excellent performance too. I was especially impressed by their precision and the ability for these dancers to stay in unison ( some clubs are a little bit better at that than others). But the theme was a little bit vague and unclear and I don't think the music itself was very moving. I personally would have chosen ' Shooting Stars' for first place. You could literally feel the energy radiating off the screen. I can only imagine what it must have been like to see it in person. Not to mention that choreography was top tier, like Broadway level. Costume design was amazing as well ( the painted on 6 packs? Come,on ...creativity and humor to boot.) They truly captured the spirit of Hawaii and Polynesian culture. And the songs were very memorable as well (And obviously popular with the younger ones being from a Disney film). I thought about the devastating fires that happened last summer on the island of Maui and felt it was a very moving tribute and that they were very succesful at paying homage to Hawaii's beautiful culture and rich history. Being a former photographer for Disney, I have worked at the Polynesian Luau live show which consist of performers who are of Hawaiian descent/ heritage and they definitely paid a beautiful homage to the Aloha / Ohana spirit of Hawaii. Congrats to all 10 clubs for a job well done. Someone described the Fancy Brigade as Broadway meets Mardi gras and I couldn't agree more. Thoroughly entertaining. Look forward to seeing it in person one day.
I so miss seeing "The Mummer's Day Parade " on TV with broadcasting ! Would watch each New Year so many years a family tradition ! ❤️ 🎆🎉 Wish so much for it's return ! Thank you, for sharing ! ❤️❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Satin Slipper i love how you went eletronic FREE! No screens or crazy 🤪 stuff. It was something that could have been seen on the street in years long gone 😢. Those were the days. Under the lights. There wasnt anything like it.
I'm thinking the same thing, but haven't heard anything The scores were released but not the judge's breakdowns. They went to a new (and I feel fairer system this year). All judges score in every category .They used to be separated by costume- performance and overall effect judges/scores. Now it's 6 judges with the highest and lowest each tossed. 4 judges /50 each with Max of 200. We will see tomorrow.
the fancy brigades sought out their own TV contract with 6 abc and broke off from the mummers parade contract. they ARE NOW BRANDING AS "THE FANCY BRIGADE COMPETITION"
Why didn't 6 abc broadcast the fancy mummers parade on Channel 2 WDPN like they did for the rest of the parade? I am having the hardest trouble trying to watch on the internet because my internet sucks! It would have been so much easier to watch it off of regular broadcast television.
Listen these are monetary decisions by the stations. Evidently it doesn't make sense for the station. The brigades cut their own contract with 6. You can tell that 6 doesn't sink many resources into the production they didn't even have additional reporter beside Alicia last year. The reality us there isn't much interest outside the Philly area. Believe or not at one time Brigades were paid substantial amount of money from TV. It's not the best but we are lucky it's broadcasted.
Thank you for posting. I missed the first 3 performances last night :) Everyone did a great job but, Spartans....the black leotards on the lionesses were a choice (side eye).

Hi Marianne, I am actually the person who cohosted. I’m sorry you feel that way but when you have the producer of the show in your headset telling you to keep talking for 10 minutes to fill up time you have to do it lol. I also was filling in for someone with less than 24 hours notice as I wasn’t the original cohost.
