WOW... I did not know that the new rule set was added into Trouble but I fondly recall the 80's one because growing up in the 90's this was part of our family game night along with Life, Monopoly, and Sorry. Great Video as always and thankd for sharing this 😃
Thre great thing with these videos based on board games is that your content is endless. Sure, you can keep on comparing versions of the games through the years....love it...but you can still do reviews on games on their own. BTW, I asked you previously about doing a video just listing all the IPs that Monopoly has done (or at least the most that you can find) and also choose some to review to tell us what changes in the mechanic on the gameplay by having said IP. ...I also asked about Shark Attack and now.....HERO QUEST. Please. :) But, loving your content!
@@justicierodelaliga Thanks so much! I do listen to every request. I procure all of these games myself, so some episodes can take longer to set up. I have some Monopoly content coming up that I think you'll really like. Shark Attack and Hero Quest are definitely on my list for future episodes. They're totally iconic games!
If you cover Heroquest you should also talk about the third-party community that has been adding content to the game since the 80's. The official content is good and the new 2021 version is amazing but when you add stuff like Axianquest, Advanced Game System, Advanced Armory, and Megaquest the game really just comes alive. There is also a ton of free content on Yo Old Inn which is super nice. :)
@@OldCrappyCouch Don´t worry! I don´t expect you to do a video on what I asked for instantly. I was just suggesting them and you do videos on them if you want and whenever you want to.
@@bravo320zf I remember that a friend had this amazing board game in the 90´s that had figurines (that should be painted) and the board was plastic/vinyl mantle and the theme was medieval if I´m not mistaken. Had lots of figures. Could you guess the name of the game? Thanks.
I’m not sure when it came out, but I have a version of trouble that not only allowed double turns and the rule about the rolling a “1”, but also had places on the board allowing you to jump across the board which either moved you forward or set you back. Which was an interesting yet enjoyable version of the game
I'm glad you remembered about the rubber feet at the end. Comparing the two, I'd say the new one is legitimately better for that reason. I don't remember if mine had them as a kid, but I can still imagine how much sliding would occur without them, as kids often like to go for the hard pops since it's more rambunctious. As for rules, if you don't like them, you can ignore them and the board itself is more clearly defined on which zone you're in--as well as easily seeing how close someone else is to reaching their home.
Absolutely classic board, very appealing to look at, let alone to play. Very neat that they were able to change the gameplay in such a significant way while keeping the structure of the board itself mostly identical.
We also had a different Pop-O-Matic games called Headache. It was more complicated and had two dice in the bubble. I suspected that the dice didn't roll so freely.
6:47 "you can actually interchange them pretty nicely on the board and not have any trouble" well, if it means that I won't any Trouble, I'd rather not exchange the pieces :P I have a recent "Retro Trouble" version from Winning Moves, which has pawns without the holes in it and without Double Trouble spaces on the board. The lid doesn't have a hole for the Popomatic but it has the rules inside the lid, which is nice.
I would bet 100% the holes in the new pieces are for choking hazards. This might need some research . I believe after the Burger King 1999 pokemon recall. More toys have gotten that "air" hole
One of my favorite games growing up was Survive. It's a Parker brothers game and it does have an updated version technically. It's not a very well-known game, but it's absolutely a blast, and I would love to see a video on it if possible.
I played the 1965 version at my grandmothers house that’s the one she had. But the 1986 Milton Bradley version did not have a cutout for the pop-o-matic.
I think the double trouble spaces branched from some of the generic versions of Trouble over the years. I saw it in the early 200's on Winnie The Pooh and Scooby Doo and Ninja Turtles Trouble ish games. They also all had the hole in the tops of the game pieces. The scooby doo one had orange, green, purple, and blue to match the colors of the Scooby characters. I think the Winnie The Pook one had pink and purple pieces instead of blue and green.

Love your videos on these board game comparisons and the history of the games. So fun and bringing back many memories. My family were huge board game players. A series of board games I always found interesting was they made a few titanic board games. I always thought what a weird thing to make a board game of. There's raise the titanic from the 80s I do believe. Where your a treasure hunter and are literally pulling weighted items off the titanic to raise it up, very neatly made game and very interactive. Then I had another one just called titanic I think it may have come out around the time of the movie. Where you have to get to the lifeboats first.
You should do a comparison of Crossbows and Catapults. Loved playing that game as a kid with my brother on the kitchen floor. Saw they have a more modern version of the game and would be interesting to see the differences.
Most of the design changes in modern board games are for safety. In Trouble, for example, the hole in the top of the pegs are to allow airflow in the event a child swallows it and it gets stuck on their throat.
