Don't forget "The Iron Door" I played this club with Kenny Johnson and Joe Butler in the early days before The Hillsiders. We went down well playing Country to the Beatnicks and got a re-booking.!
Don't forget also The Mardi Gras and Samson and Barlow's in London Road and Hank Walters & The Dusty Road Ramblers.
The Spinners played on the middle floor and The Scottish Club at the back.... Bagpipes, Country, Folk, Steel, Jazz, Rock
Liverpool was bursting with live music.... Since "Rock Around The Clock" pop took off.

Does anyone remember a pub nicknamed The Fly House? I'm not from Liverpool. I lived in Liverpool in 1974-76. I seem to recall it was near the Tate & Lyle Sugar Refinery. I saw some very talented people performing on Sunday afternoons. I would love to know if it's still open.

Joe Rogers and Harry Chambers, the best country band in Britain played there. Both now sadly passed away. The pub was many years ago.Had many great times in there and lots of other places seeing this band.

So sad. That was 1974-1975 when I was there. Just a wonderful memory of your wonderful city and Sunday afternoons spent with my good friends. I've been back in California since 1982. I saw that video about the old pubs -- memorable pubs -- and the two that were so special to me were the Coach and Horses on Lodge Lane and the pub that went by the nickname, the "Fly House." So sad to think they're gone. I tried to Google Map the Coach and Horses and no results. Oh, well. Life goes on.
william carrick, thanks so much for replying to my comment.

Thank you so much for replying. In the short time I lived in Liverpool, my friend, Tommy Sinnott and I used to go down on Sunday afternoons. When they had the "stay behind" hours on Sunday, a mutual friend, Jimmy (I wish I could remember his last name) sang popular ballads. San Francisco is my hometown and I used to get serenaded (along with everybody else) with Jimmy singing "I Left My Heart in San Francisco." That was back in 1974-1975. It was a wonderful time and Jimmy had a great voice.
Cone to think of it, I think he went by the professional name of Jimmy Hines.
william carrick, thanks so much for replying to my comment. Have a great day! 😎

I remember it well. I was an apprentice, back in the seventies. I worked just down the road from Tate&Lyle in Glegg street. Happy days.
