I appreciate your comment! It's funny, we actually didn't have that much control when we could film. Some days we were up early to catch the light, other days we were at the whim of mid day or park rules. But it is our job to find the best light - especially in a run and gun style.
🔥🔥🔥 footage looked insane! I think if I was gonna pursue the clean look for a job, these might be the go to. They’re clean but still feel like a step above mirrorless lenses in terms of “charm”.
@@CineDailies it shouldn't really matter too much. People think stuff like K35, Superspeeds, Leica R, Olympus OM etc. is popular because they have 'funky' bokeh, flares, halation or lower contrast but there is pop and image separation that just seems missing from so many of these cheaper lens sets. It is of course difficult to explain exactly what that X factor is but I think there's something to be said for the companies that have figured out how to make 'clean' lenses that still have that dimensionality to them. stuff like tokina vista, signature/master primes and zeiss supremes come to mind. sure, there is merit to having cheap and cheerful lens that is easy to work with but I don't agree that you can add some of the character back through filtration or other means. Your test footage is presented well which is why I feel comfortable commenting on the aesthetic of the lenses specifically. Thanks for taking the time to respond :) Cancel Reply
its easier to make a "clinical" lens less clinical, than a "characterful" lens clinical. Most of the work I do calls for a cleaner look, for the jobs when I do need something with more character, like you said, I can use some sort of an optical element to change it. Can't wait for the full review, really like how these look already!
These range of Nisi lenses will wipe the floor of the competition for at least the near future if I have to guess. They are pretty close to or intelligible from what you can get from the established names' lenses that cost anywhere from 3-4 times or over 10 times as much but clearly a class above all of the budget sub-$1K Chinese lenses or comparably priced still photography lenses in the market today. They remind me very much of the Sony Cinealta line of Super-35 T2.0 set of lenses (probably made by Cosina) I used back nearly 10 years ago on the Canon C100 and some Sony cinema cameras later on such the FS5. Superb build quality, good to excellent resolution for those sub-10 megapixel video specific camera sensors, near zero distortion, near zero to nil focus breathing, no noticeable chromatic aberrations, lateral or longitudinal, no noiceable vignetting at the full T2.0, consistent color rendition, and mostly flawless bokeh rendition (no color fringing edges, no onion rings or flaw spots etc.) They were quite reasonably priced too. Significantly cheaper than comparable lenses from Zeiss or Canon but not as low as these Nisi lens.
Nice one✨ Looking forward to the Peru story! And to the comparison w the DZO Vespids. I’m thinking one of these two lens types will be my next lens kit.
@@CineDailies That's quite handy to know, thanks! I may just pull the trigger on these and stick a Black Satin filter on the front when I want to soften it a bit.
@@Nephelangelo funny actually shot with them on a small project the other day. The build quality is amazing! But I feel like they're too clean and lack death. The kind of remind me of the Zeiss CP2s. All that being said I haven't graded the footage yet. Just my initial impression right out of camera.
Your footage is great! Down the road I will for sure be looking at these. These are E month lenses, right? I am Sony shooter and have bunch of their lenses, next lens is the 24-70GM (II) since. Cine is that a Zoom H6 you using as your mic? Why, and how it that? I have one of those which I use for my boom, have not thought of using like that though. Thank You!
Yes they are in Emount, RF mount and PL (the ones I own) I was using my h6 because i was to lazy to set up my boom mic ha. I need to get another audio attachment for handle use
Have you tried the 14mm with that front filter adapter they give you? Any issues with vignetting on the full frame FX6 if you put a filter or matte box on the front?
Vignetting is an interesting thing. When filming wide open on lenses that have a large image circle, you'll encounter vignetting. Once you stop down, the illumination will be more even across the frame. putting a screw in the filter on the 14 mill is a little tricky, but I haven’t had any issues with the map box with vignetting
They sure do look lovely and to be a solid investment! Was really considering getting a few but unfortunately they come in all the mounts I don't have haha!
Nice stuff. I have the SLR Magic APO Microprimes on my C70. I have the 25, 32, 50, and 85. You think they are a better investment than those? They are EF mount and I can use them with my 0.71x speedbooster so they are essentially T1.5 after boosted on my S35 sensor. I paid $2500 for the set on BH Photo as they were slightly used but high grade so perfect condition. I used the 32 in my Tampa video on my channel for a majority of the shoot. Check it out and let me know what you think.
Love the SLR magic APOs. The 25mm was the odd one out with the green shift. I own a s35 camera too - they still look great. I can't say what's better because idk your needs. Are you unhappy with the APOs?
I’ve got the 50 on back order. Current workhorse lens is the Irix 30 1.5. Im torn if I should grab the 35mm or the dzo catta 35-80 instead. Decisions decisions.
these lenses are horrendously underpriced. if you look at what you getting, cine lense housing, focus marking, f stop and focus rings consistent across the whole set, color matched, and low weight, the price makes NO sense at all. It used to happen more in the past, but companies would introduce lenses to test the market, then price correct. I’m almost positive that if there’s an Athena v II, they will NOT be $1k each. Buy them now… seriously ..

exactly man, cleaner lenses are more flexible
For a lens that I own, I’d rather start with a clean base and then add diffusion as needed. These look great!

Great insight. Insane how good these are. Worth the investment!
Thanks fam! yeah crazy how good these are

These lenses just produce gorgeous images! For the price they’re a steal!

Wow I'll be eyeing these lenses and all of the content you come out with them!
dope man! more to come
I’ve had my set for a few weeks now…they are fantastic
Love it
I'm all Sony so the E-Mount is smarter for me. Plus they might be coming out with a back lens VND insert which would be dope for my FX3.
Sounds like a plan
Stoked about these lenses

Dude! that video intro was sick! Loved it!!!!!

What PL to E-mount adapter did you use for the FX6?
The optics are nice I just feel like they lack so much contrast. I feel like the shadows look a little muddy. But still a cool lens.

Nisi 35mm (50mm in FF) or 50mm (75mm in FF) for the FX30? I got two lens already that covers these focal length
