    These fans were made by the McGraw Edison company out of Booneville, MO. They were labeled under several different names, Zero, Wizard, Sears, Eskimo, Coronado, Western Auto... I'm sure I'm missing a few but they've been around since the early 1940's using that very same motor. Very cheap build quality indeed, but they've lasted 60+ years. I've always liked them. Nice piece you have

    Good video on the initial checkout of the vintage table fan these fans are pretty cool it has an oil port for oiling fans easier usually these plastic blades are flimsy not a bad fan considering it's in great condition I can't wait for part 2 which is getting the oscillator fixed

    Very cool! You are dead on about the voltage making a difference in speed. I tested it with my GE AOU and a speed controller I built and at 110 volts it is much more tame and there is a huge difference between speeds compared to when it's running on 120. I'm curious to see what the motor and oscillator looks like on this one! Nice fan!

    what an awesome fan video like that it has balancing weights also i like that it spins counterclockwise my favorite direction lol hopefully you can fix the osculator good video bro and enjoyed it

      Thanks bro I knew you would like it because it goes counterclockwise. I'm going to have another fan coming up soon that also goes counterclockwise.

    nice fan never thought the blades would be plastic I thought they were metal

    • @JordanU

      Plastic blades at the time weren't too common, but they did exist on a few models.

    Yeah, I would tend to guess mid-late 60s because of the plug and also the colors. I have a similar but newer Toastmaster that has 3 clear blue blades and a radial wire guard that is closer spaced. I have seen some with this same 4 blades but clear blue or green branded as different things.

    Do you think that overtime, sooner or later, the plastic could become too brittle to withstand the movement? I only ask because they seem so flimsy, from what you're saying.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 года назад

      While that is certainly a possibility with anything that's plastic, I don't think that will be the case here for decades or more. I don't think the blades are any more flimsy now than they were when they left the factory 50 years ago. The plastic blades from this era don't seem to have issues yet, take the GE box fans for instance. I've never heard of one of those blades breaking.

    When I first saw this fan I thought this was a GE Vortalex. Maybe someone was trying to copy what GE made, but that’s just my guess. And even though this fan MAY BE noisy, it still sounds pretty powerful compared to today’s junk that never lasts.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 года назад +1

      I didn't think of that, but that's certainly a possibility. At a quick glance, it definitely does look like a Vortalex.

    • @1998MonroeNYColonial

      Even though this may not be the most powerful vintage fan, it still sounds a lot more powerful and well built compared to today’s garbage.

    • @coled5090

      It reminds me of a Vortalex blade too. I think somebody else also made a fan that had blades similar to Vortalex but in metal.

  • @DiceMau5er

    maybe it was labeled no good because the oscillator did not work

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 года назад

      That is a possibility.

    I never thought of the voltage discrepancies causing the speeds to run fast. I always prefer the slow low speed. These blades don't have a lot of pitch to them so I wouldn't be surprised if it runs fast even at the rated voltage. Perhaps it's labeled no good because the oscillator isn't working. I would say this is no later than the 1960s given the design with the open metal guard.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 года назад

      I do think that was the case with the oscillator, but even with that broken it's still a good fan!
