These remind me of the beautiful, clear and cold fall and winter mornings and evenings in central California. It's one of the perfect bird songs to wake up to
My Tribe, the Kahtnuht’ana (Kenaitze), have a Sukdu’a (traditional story) about this bird call, Tzik’ezlagh. When the bird is heard singing, it marks the return of the King Salmon, give or take a few days. - retold by Peter Kalifornsky in A Dena’ina Legacy Sukdu.
O my gosh, I found you! This is the bird that's in my yard!! It's Spring And I've never heard them before, a few of them here! Wow! Thank you, glad to have resources like these
About where do you live because im in NE AL and I just heard this distinctive bird the other day. I was also really happy to find out what bird it was because I never heard it before. It was dark outside early too.
There's a bunch of these guys that come back to nest in the trees by my house in summer every year. VERY LOUD AND SOMETIMES AGITATING but very cute and sweet of course.
Nous sommes éblouis par la magie des sons de ces petites créatures et leur magnificence... Gloire au Créateur de tous ces sons.. Soubhana Allah al adhim
I just got one today and it drove me crazy what it was. My mom ultimately found it in a book of bird sounds. You turn to the bird, enter the number, and press the button. When I first heard it I thought it was the recycle truck.
in July 1991, we went to Ninilchik to dig for razor clams. I shot video there, and recorded the song in the background. I never knew what kind of bird made that call, and it always played in my mind all these years. In 2016, I heard that call again in California. Since then, I've been asking my friends what bird makes that call... 3 descending notes. I whistled it for them. One of my friends recognized it today and said it sounded like a gold crowned sparrow. I looked for it on youtube and I FINALLY was able to see what bird makes this beautiful call in 2021.
Just heard on today for the first time in my life. Kinda freaked me out a bit. Was out side of my window and I’ve never heard such a clear musical call. I thought u has someone in the house or a spook! 😂
Reminds me of summer mornings in Alaska. I was trying to find it for so long. My roomate kept saying I was misremembering the “mockingjay” from the hunger games.
I swear I heard this exact sound from my window, but I live in New York City! I imagine it's very unlikely that it was this bird... Does anyone know any other birds with a similar call that are found in NYC? These exact three notes!
White throated sparrow! They are very common on the east where I live, but also have many variations to their traditional song. It’s whistled quite similar to this. Beautiful melody.

what a lovely song, 4 descending notes sung with such certitude and melancholy

thank you, this is a perfect example of their call. I know it's coming on Spring and Summer when I hear them in my backyard.
I’m from Texas and I remember visiting Alaska and hearing this for the first time. Such a beautiful song

That was my exact reaction when I found out last year :) It’s my favorite.

I’m in NorCal and they are always in my yard. 🥰
I live in Yakutat and they are all over my yard😊

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for!
They have only three notes that make the little lament "Oh, dear me" "Oh, dear me"
Oh dear me

Listening to one right now by the bluff close to Deep Creek in Ninilchik, Alaska. Beautiful call!

they have a nice call, but it can get annoying in Alaska lol, I hear it a bit more frequently than I would like to.

"Hearos" earplugs, whenever needed, are most efficient!
I hear “CHEESE-BUR-GER”
in my language, we call the bird “dee-qwalas” (not the spelling but how the word sounds) and the song it sings is “dee-qwalas-so” !!!
Sounds a lot like a white-throated sparrow.
Almost like a Chickadee.
👌
I heard this last night and it freaked me the fuck out
I am in the Hill Country of Central Texas NorthWest of San Antonio and I have them in the yard.
It must be a white-throated sparrow. They sound very similar. Golden-crowned sparrows are not found east of the Rockies.

there's one outside my window that sounds like In The Navy by the Village People.
I thought it was calling for help, I've been looking for it, but it turns out it's just singing.
Well...if the bird is calling for a companion - it's determined to alleviate its loneliness!😢
this the bird my ex and i fell in love with..
A darling little bird: so tiny with a poignant cry! And that distinctive golden crest - charming❤
xD
