  • Commercial Protein Skimmer Design & Construction for Bonneville Seabase.
This is the first part of several videos I will be releasing about the design and construction of an aquarium protein skimmer for Bonneville Seabase. Later videos will show the completed skimmer. Bonneville Seabase is a scuba diver training and recreation facility near Salt Lake City, Utah. It is saltwater and home to a variety of marine wildlife. While very popular, visibility in the bays is a common subject of discussion of divers. Multiple efforts have been made to improve visibility with varying degrees of success. Borrowing from the success of protein skimming in aquariums and foam fractionating in water treatment plants, I am hoping to help.
The project started as a discussion with the owners several years ago, but recently, when I bought scuba gear from them at a very agreeable price, I decided to tackle it and see if I couldn't help find a solution. If anyone has ideas on improvements, I welcome feedback.

Thanks Ryan that was a helpful video. Couldn't find the construction of a commercial size skimmer anywhere. Keep posting :)

Feedback: Get a bigger reaction chamber, like a large water storage tank. With the turbulence, you'll need it to prevent bubbles from escaping. The Mazzei injectors work great. This thing was pulling out about 15 gallons of skimmate a day.
