  • In this video I review the Nanlite PavoBulb 10C cinema-grade LED light bulbs and compare them to the Aputure Accent B7c.
    The Nanlite PavoBulb 10C is bi-color for both warm and cool whites, but also has full color RGB support in HSI mode, plus a bunch of highly customizable (and realistic) special effects.
    The main way that the PavoBulb 10C differs from the Aputure Accent B7c is that it does not have an internal battery, which has both pros and cons.
    Since the PavoBulb 10C has a USB-C port, you get a ton of options and accessories for control and power that are not available for the Aputure Accent B7c.
    Watch the full video and leave a comment to let me know how you think the PavoBulb 10C compares to the Aputure B7c and other alternatives out there.

    The PavoBulb 10C 4-Light and 12-Light kits are 50% through September at the links in the description! Crazy good deal.

    I picked up 2 of these when they were on sale for $45 a while back and I just ordered one of the 4 light kits the other day, no battery plus DMX support makes them wonderful for my application as an effect light for stop motion. Paying around $17 per DMX adapter is a bit of a bummer but it's worth it as I have no interest in buying lights I can't directly control from my animation software.

      Good feedback! I personally never use DMX, but for someone like you it's a must have.

    One good solution I’ve found for powering say a NYX or Pavo bulb without built in battery when it’s playing in a lamp on set - and you can’t run a stinger because it will be in shot- is to use the tether tools onsite d-tap to AC power with a standard gold or v mount battery that has a dtap. You can plug your floor
    Lamp or practical into the the tether tool and run it off battery… retails for about $90… great for many other applications as well. I keep 4 on my truck.

      Thanks for sharing, I love that solution.
      I was thinking a USB-C hub like the IndiPRO Tools 450Wh charger (bhpho.to/3RAWUnu) might be a good solution, although you'd still need 1 wall outlet for that, but you could just run USB-C cables only after that. Although, with the PavoBulb magnetic bases in particular, your solution is definitely better.

      @@NewLayer yeah it’s great cause usually you have batts on hand and it’s good to
      200w so could even power a small light etc

      @@NewLayer that tether tools
      Might make a good new layer episode too… I’ve saved scripty on jobs with it when they had nowhere to power their laptop/iPads etc

    Tell me, with the app that comes with both bulbs, can you make custom effects?

    The mobile app is the part. Being able to control groups.

      Nanlite went WAY too long without having a good app, or working app at all, but it's become one of my favorites for sure.

    Nice review. 🎉This feels a bit fiddly The Aputure would be much easier to place where I want without dealing with power banks and wires.

      @NewLayer  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks, and I feel you! There's definitely situations where the Aputure bulbs would be my choice, but a lot where these are my favorite.
      If you are installing bulbs into real light fixtures on a permanent set, I would choose these, or if you need to be able to use bulbs over a longer period where internal batteries won't last long enough, these are great.
      Obviously you can come up with other solutions for the Aputure bulbs, but the little light flags on these are super useful in lamps.
      The best thing is we can choose from both!

    These look great, but unfortunately I am tied the aputure brand cause I'd like to have only 1 app to control all of my lights

    • @NewLayer

      Fair enough, sticking to 1 brand ecosystem can be a huge time saver.

    The problem is, these don't work like the Astera controller. You can't plug in, set and unplug. If you do, it reverts back to 5600K, ruin you settings. A HUGE flaw Nanlite needs to correct, across all their products. My Pavoslim 120c does the same thing. When I connect the phone app, it reverts to 5600K. Not good.

    Do you know if the bulbs have any coil whine or sound coming from them as they cool? My biggest concern before buying them.

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  7 месяцев назад +1

      I have not noticed any sound coming from these bulbs. I think (or wonder) if the lack of battery helps with that.

    Could I use this in a China Ball as a Key light ?

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  7 месяцев назад

      You could try, but it would be very, very, very dim since it would be a 10 watt RGB source with huge diffusion. Realistically you'd need at least a 60 watt daylight or bi-color light for a key light in a China ball.

    Does anyone use these for household lighting

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  2 месяца назад +1

      I have a few cinema bulbs permanently installed in my home studio ceiling light fixture, as well as one of my kids rooms and my wife's home office/studio.
      I think it's a really good thing to do, especially if you film things in specific rooms, because they are WAY more color accurate than household light bulbs. If you had your whole house on them, you could group them into rooms and control them all from the app, which would be fun.

    • @Prxyshj
      @Prxyshj 2 месяца назад +1

      @@NewLayer the only concern is of course Price. I am not in the industry so I would be getting these only for fun. The color is compelling because a lot of consumer bulbs are pretty weak on the colors. I think the CRI they claim is manipulated and the lumens are only correct for white. But these look different.

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  2 месяца назад

      @@Prxyshj You are very correct. The white light in consumer bulbs is atrocious 99% of the time. And when they advertise higher CRI, etc. it's usually fudged numbers, or they charge more than something like this, which are far, far superior.
      The most annoying thing about consumer bulbs, for me, is that they flicker on video. So even if you take a 60-120fps video on your phone, the footage is unusable. These are good even for super slow mo stuff.
