I moved to to Toronto a few yaers after this concert. I went to El Mocambo often for shows, and normally when you go to shows and talk to people it often ckmes around to grat shows they have seen. Acouple of guys mentioned this show (pre UTube) and one of them said he was completely floored and could not sleep for a couple of days. I understand why

do you know the story about that venue and why stevie and the band had to play like absolute legends? THEY WERE BANNED from playing! so they had to prove themselves in this show.........isnt that amazing?

Legend has it that on that night of the El Mocambo gig,
      Zeus, Odin, Apollo, and Crom,
took human form and came down
to witness a mere mortal play the guitar like no God could ever do 🤘🏼

SRV played the guitar like some people speak eloquently! He rose to a level that the guitar was an extention of himself. He rarely played anything exactly the same way twice, most would be hard pressed to spot the difference because of how dynamic and how aggressive his attack was. The guy was a blues legend that will never be replicated.

You just watched one of the best guitarist..ever. He died. Much to young. That guitar is on display. It’s hard to believe there have been offers of millions to buy it. There is also a statue of him in Austin Texas. Stevie just loved to play. He would for anyone. Great choice to get many different ideas and types of artists. Very good.

That is actually a Jimi Hendrix song from his 1967 album "Axis : Bold as Love" and it has lyrics as well =) You can find a video of Kirk Hammett playing it live too although his cover is not nearly as good as SRV's, Steve Lukather from Toto did an amazing cover of that song too
    Take care \m/

Stevie didn't just play the guitar. He melded with the guitar. He channelled something raw and pure from another dimension, and yet still deep within himself. As Agent K (Men in Black) might say, Stevie did not die. He just went home. 😁

Stevie has the ability to make his guitar sing. There are but a few guitarists that have attained the ability to speak through their guitars. Stevie also had the uncanny ability to play for long periods of time without the need to pause in order to figure out where he wanted to go next. Rock guitar legend, Eric Clapton said, Stevie had the ability to channel music from the universe to his mind and then through his hands and fingers. Eric also said, “I have never seen a man more at one with his guitar than Stevie Ray Vaughn is.”
