"I thought Ice was a disappointing last power. I mean, we had the god of WALLS." Ehh...I'd rather freeze people solid than walk up a wall only if it has a cat statue in front of it, but that's just me.
Emile, to this day this episode happens to still be one of my most favorite and still I thank you for showing me this game years ago. I hope you get to read this and know that you definitely drove me to buy this game and when this episode came out and I heard the music with the moment? I couldn't help but 100% this game. As always keep up your work on your new stuff and know your older works are still enjoyed to this day.
There was that weird movie Rock-A-Doodle by Don Bluth that had the grand duke of owls as a villain. Also in the original Swan Lake ballet, the villain Rothbart takes the form of an owl
Oki's character arc might be my favorite in the game. He thought he just hadn't killed enough monsters, but being a hero isn't about fighting monsters; it's about defending people. So it's only when Oki stops focusing on fighting (gives up his chance to finish the demons off) and uses Kutone to defend someone who needed help (slicing the ice that was about to fall on Ammy and Shiranui) that the sword finally approves of it's wielder and starts glowing.
Gameburger Well there's also a rabbit using a hammer, a pig balancing itself on a freaking bomb, a sheep god who's constantly drinking, a cat God who's stuck on a wall, so the ox is probably the least weird god we got
I knew shiranui was gonna die the moment i saw him... people really close to the main character is bboth tv shows and games usually die at some point. :(
Honestly I love how Ammy's true reflector and strongest reflector is called 'Solar Flare'. It shows her power as a sun goddess as a Solar Flare is something that comes from the sun and can be extremely harmful. It's her truest form of divine retrebution.
I think you were the first person to comment this. Congratulations!! For real, though, it might be... It is Japanese, and in the colourised manga there is some of that reverse colours going on so this coming before that anime isn't a problem. Maybe stopping time is a bit more known that just that, though. Who's to say?
@@TorrentialStardust holy shit I remember this. I cringe while looking back at it BUT LOL yeah, there are so many jjba references everywhere even before the anime was a thing, but damn does Okami do a good job at making them part of the story!
God, that bit of music that plays when Shiranui appears in both the past and in the Nechku battle is so beautiful. Is it part of the OST, and if so under what name? I never could find it.
Oki's redeeming moment. Right when I read his obsession about letting Kutone taste blood, I knew that he was blind to the sword's truth, also when Shiranui did his celestial brush powers, I always thought he was guiding you, and increasing your powers because he was there, now I feel dumb.
Pretty sure that was a finishing move, not a Sub-Reflector counter. If you notice, it seems Nechku had some health left when the fight ended. Plus, Shiranui charged at Nechku from, like, 50 feet away.
@aznlink7 - Aha. I'm guessing this is the second blast in Ammy's first Hyper Combo in MVC3? (The first hit is Firestorm, the second is some kind of ice attack and the third is Thunderbolt)
@XxAlchamyxGurlxX The ending song is Oki's theme: Okikurmi The Hero. Just type that in YT and look for MasatoHyuga, he has the entire Okami soundtrack on his channel.
Well, the tree did grow over the portal, but in the past, Shiranui was supposed to be in Orochi's location. Shiranui must of passed through the portal after Ammy and Issun made their way through to battle Orochi. Ammy and Issun did say in the past 'Where's your old self, Ammy?' and stuff, meaning Shiranui had left that time to go to the future.
It must be Nintendo Logic; Everything temporarily freezes while the technique is being done(minus certain foes) and Amaterasu doesn't move when she does a brush technique so she wouldn't have to let go of anything. Also, Shiranui has wall jumps to jump back up with.
ice is usefull because once you obtain the ability it allows you to use ( in my opinion) the most usefull ultimate technique snowflake. draw an X and a horizontal line through the center of it ( or for some reason it works better if you draw the line through the bottom half of the X) it creates a giant snowflake that drop ice shards on enemys and temporarally freezes them for a few seconds. this becomes available the moment you obtain the final technique.
Don't know if it's been said because I don't feel like going through pages of comments, but I think the final element/brush sign has to do with the fact the Buffalo or Ox is the sign for Winter-born children in the Chinese Zodiac. Winter is also the last season before a new year. Plus you're in a snowy dungeon. So it kinda makes sense... Kinda.
@ProdigyStepper you would think so, but no, they both have clocks, Nechku having a digital clock with rome or greek or whatever numbers, and Leechku has a normal clock
For those who didn't see Chuggaa's Majora's Mask LP, Emile explains that someone told him the reason for the final power not being something spectacular is so the players don't feel cheated or under-powered throughout the game.
I like ice, plus there's a secret brush technique that comes with it. I think you draw a star, if I remember right and you get a torrent of icicles that hit enemies. Kinda cool.
How ice is not an upgrade, is because upgrade arent suppose to affect how dungeoun effectively "block" you. Ice allows you to access dungeoun 2, upgrade allows you to get 100% in dungeouns and bonus stuff. :D
The cutscene after the Nechku battle is probably one of my favorite moments in the game. Shiranui is beastly, man. I tend to think Shiranui is the original body of Amaterasu, while the one we play as is the second body, and Chibiterasu is a third body. Overall, they are bodies of the same spirit of the God Amaterasu, who can split to occupy multiple bodies. I would put my full theory here if there was enough space, but a summary will do for now.
(I forgot to mention that it was unexpected because I was playing on the Wii and accidentally skipped the cutscene before the fight, so I had no idea that I was in a mid-boss fight with Shiranui by my side. I was just confused.)
If you read the enemy bios (for some ungodly reason I don't know...) "It says The gold one who stops time and the silver one who deals death..." Makes SO MUCH SENSE! :D
But in the start of this series, in the intro, it says that Nagi brings Shiranui's body back to kamiki village and they make a shrine for her and place Shiranui's body in that shrine. Therefore when Sakua reincarnates Shiranui into Amaterasu, they have to be the same gender?
Supposedly, the 13th brush technique was meant to be somewhat disappointing so that it wouldn't be the last wouldn't be the strongest like most games. It's a similar concept to using all your techniques throughout the game.
The first time I fought Nechku I was all kinds of freaking out because it was unexpected and Shiranui was there. I literally, *literally* let Shiranui do ALL of the work in the fight.
16:33 ZA WARUDOOOOO poor Shiranui though D: also Chugga, you know you can use the secret blizzard brush technique if you draw a snowflake (an x with a line through it vertically or horizontally)
This happened in monster's inc. too. You open some sort of super technological portal into a random place and someone from said place walks through it while you aren't looking. Either that or shiranui's super-mist allows time travel.
@ThisIsACoolGuy EXCEPT, after the battle of Lechku and Nechku, Shiranui went back to her time, and THEN did the battle of Orochi, so Okamiden could exist. It would go like this: Shiranui is trapped in the ice cave. She is freed by Chibiterasu, and she goes into the future to help Amaterasu with the Lechku/Nechku battle. After the battle, Shiranui went back to her time to do the battle of Orochi. After being crushed by a boulder, she was STILL alive, and Akuro finished him off. That's my theory.
After hearing you say something about the powers, i thought of the power of earth instead of ice, just draw a ^ on the screen, and a sharp piece of earth shoots up into enemy, or acts as second platform to jump off of and reach higher spots if catwalk isnt near by. And if you drew a big one on the screen, it'd take all your ink and fill almost a battlefield, like Ice Climbers from Brawl lol
@Zdude3255 Which is the opposite of what happened in okami. Someone came from the past to save you in the present. Is that backwards too? They aren't the same. As a matter of fact they're pretty much a subversion.
@FieraDevilWings Well, it's not really ever mentioned in the game (at least not that I'm aware of) so it's sort of a secret, and it's available once you obtain ice. Though I guess its more of an unknown extension.
Now with the ultimate reflector in paw, it's off to fight Lechku and Nechku, with or without help from the brash and single-minded Oki... and with a great assist from Shiranui!
Hey! HUGE fan of your LPs and I was wondering if you were planning to do a Skyward Sword LP? I think you once mentioned in a vid that you occasionally look through the comments. Please reply to this. ;)
the worst power of okamiden has to be magnetism. when im trying to direct fire, water or lightning it thinks im drawing a U and i end up wasting loads of ink
While I agree Ice is disappointing as a final power-up, there isn’t much else they could really do. I mean we have: Fire Ice Wind Lightning Restoration Rending Plants Time (Slowing and skipping time of day) Explosions And...Walls Not much else they could do. Earth was possible, but it would probably replace Rejuvenation. Illusion could’ve been something, with Ninetails and all, but what could they do with it? The powers from Okamiden (magnetism and guidance) wouldn’t work here, due to the lack of a partner you can place down and no top-down segments.
@Zdude3255 Okay how does that even make sense? Harry potter was brought up by you in the first comment in this string. You compared it to the video as if it was direct reference when in fact they're a subversion.
@PikaPikaFan True, though when it comes to okamiden I totally ignore it's plot points that clash with the first game too much, "Shiranui died by poison" and in okamiden she gets blasted with a giant evil sphere. Um. (Her death was actually caused by this scuffle, she went back in time after being stabbed and when people found her dead they just assumed it was because of the poison head)
What I’m disappointed more about is how the game threw 4 weapons at us so rapidly, you hardly get to use them all in comparison to the amount of time all the other weapons get used. You never fought with theTrinity mirror on screen before buying the Ressurection beads. You used that weapon for a little before getting the Eigth Wonder, which was really only used on Ororchi and the clay soldiers. Then you get the Thunder Edge which is only used for like a few fights before you get the Solar Flare. Kind of upsetting since every other weapon had a large amount of use before being replaced.
i know solar flare.. pressing light fire forward, medium fires up, and heavy makes you jump and fire down. It doesn't hit otg.. but it's a good assist to trap :3
"Okikurmi, The Hero" is in my Top 5 Favorite Okami songs (along with others such as "Theme of the Celestials" and "Ryoshima Coast"). It's just so...badass. Just like Shiranui. I never even try to attack in this fight because it's too much fun watching Shiranui kick ass.
@msazcardinal He didn't. He travelled from the past to help Ammy, which is why he wasn't at the Orochi fight, thus completing the time warp loop he and Ammy made when they travelled in time separately. -Rii the Poncle
the new weapon you've been mentioning chuggaa should be available now i believe i Sei-an city.i always thought you had to get it in a certain place (dont want to spoil it)
@Mngalahad 251 was the number of Pokemon (chugga's fav game series) total in Generation II (up to Gold Silver and Crystal) But I think you mean 255. he explains why he loves it in his Earthbound LP, but one example is that in the Original Pac-Man, after Level 255, the game would freeze. (he also said something about Ness's attack and the rest can't exceed 255
11:40-19:30 this has just become of my favorite scene and boss of the game,Amateratsu & Shiranui fighting side by side, seeing Shiranui's awesome power, and seeing Oki finally awaken as a true hero, its so mind bogglingly epic imo ^_^ 18:40-20:52 I think I just fell in love with this song ^O^
"I thought Ice was a disappointing last power. I mean, we had the god of WALLS."
Ehh...I'd rather freeze people solid than walk up a wall only if it has a cat statue in front of it, but that's just me.
Entirely Pro no the fact its a clone power is what disapoints him
The god of Walls is Donald Trump. And they will be 10 feet tall.
19:26 God, years later that roar *still* sends a chill down my spine!
I miss this game so much!
Oki's wolf form looks like Zoroark from Pokemon
“Shiranui is Amaterasu at her peak.”
Shiranui: *turns a 5 minute boss fight into a 30 second boss fight just by breathing*
Amaterasu: Dad?!
Shiranui: Let's take this Clockwork owl down together, my daughter.
Amaterasu: Sure thing, Dad!
Almost 4 years later...
*HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA, EPISODE 69!*
Ha..............
ha
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
FriendlyGiant 96 We went from sarcastic
To a low ha
To you?
Spectrum16 and then to i dont get it
Am I the only one feeling really useless fighting alongside Shiranui?
super late but pretty sure if you just wait he'll kill nechku himself.
Shiranui steals all the thunder 😤
FREAKING AWESOME CUTSCENE MUSIC!!!

As always keep up your work on your new stuff and know your older works are still enjoyed to this day.
Owls being evil is an unfamiliar concept to me.
There was that weird movie Rock-A-Doodle by Don Bluth that had the grand duke of owls as a villain.
Also in the original Swan Lake ballet, the villain Rothbart takes the form of an owl
Shiranui is only male in the English localization.
That was no Cherry Bomb, that's a Cherry NUKE.
lechku knows how to use chaos control
Just realized: Veil of Mist actually slows your Ink Regeneration speed!
I think shiranui's theme music is the best song in the game. His howl gives me chills every time, beautiful.
So if you didn't want ice to be the final power...what would you want it to be?
earth manipulation?
that would be kind of cool actually
Gravity. I mean the Sun's gravity is what stops Mercury - Pluto from flying away.
Gameburger Well there's also a rabbit using a hammer, a pig balancing itself on a freaking bomb, a sheep god who's constantly drinking, a cat God who's stuck on a wall, so the ox is probably the least weird god we got
17:07 I'M NOT CRYING
GOD DAMMIT!! THAT WAS NOT OKAY!!
I knew shiranui was gonna die the moment i saw him... people really close to the main character is bboth tv shows and games usually die at some point. :(
You actually get a secret brush technique when you get Blizzard. In order to use it, you need to draw an X with a line running straight across it.
+Samuel Johnson you could have just said "draw a snowflake"
Well either way it's too late this lets play is four years old
nini84897 true that, he also explained it anyway
+C10pokefan I thought it would be nice for any future watchers to know this fact when they play the game.
***** he tells them in another episode anyway
Honestly I love how Ammy's true reflector and strongest reflector is called 'Solar Flare'. It shows her power as a sun goddess as a Solar Flare is something that comes from the sun and can be extremely harmful. It's her truest form of divine retrebution.
Fun Fact: The Japanese word for dog is Inu
Shiba dog!
superstarjonesbros Shiba Inu's are AWESOME!
He used cherry nuke not cherry bomb
What's The Theme/Song at 19:17?
Never underestimate the hidden versions of the lightning, fire, and ice powerups. Those things are brutal.
This was an AMAZING episode, holy damn. That cutscene after the boss fight was spectacular.
16:33 TOKI WO TOMARE!!!
Seriously, is this a reference to Dio from JJBA? It looks really cool omg
I think you were the first person to comment this. Congratulations!! For real, though, it might be... Shiranui's howl is so much better than Ammy's.
Why are the most Thumbs Upped Comments not about this video being Episode 69?
Clock: hits midnight/noon
Me: gets ad
Stupid demons causing ads to appear
This is one of my favorite boss fights in the game as well as one of my favorite dungeons. You did well Chugga.
Emile all you have to do is LET IT GO
its episode 69 ;)
"Oh you think im a lame power, well take this!" lol The power of ice is awsome!
God, that bit of music that plays when Shiranui appears in both the past and in the Nechku battle is so beautiful. Is it part of the OST, and if so under what name? I never could find it.
God, this is so freaking amazing. This had me crying by the end of the episode.
Man.... I got to the end of this episode.. and just.... that MUSIC. such... epic... music... Thank you for letting it play on.
thank you for the walktrough/gameplay, that was the funniest and the best :3
Oki's redeeming moment. Right when I read his obsession about letting Kutone taste blood, I knew that he was blind to the sword's truth, also when Shiranui did his celestial brush powers, I always thought he was guiding you, and increasing your powers because he was there, now I feel dumb.

Seriously LOVE the music they used during that cutscene after basically pwning Nechku. Not sure why I love it, it's just.... so amazing to me.
@aznlink7 - Aha. I'm guessing this is the second blast in Ammy's first Hyper Combo in MVC3? (The first hit is Firestorm, the second is some kind of ice attack and the third is Thunderbolt)

Favorite fight of all time.
The epicness of Shiranui, plus the entire scene post-battle..just a sheer work of perfection.
It must be Nintendo Logic; Everything temporarily freezes while the technique is being done(minus certain foes) and Amaterasu doesn't move when she does a brush technique so she wouldn't have to let go of anything. Also, Shiranui has wall jumps to jump back up with.

I love the concept art at the end of every video, I always have. I wish I had a printer or something to hang them up :P
Kinda.
Ok... Even I think that ending was epic and sent a shiver down my spin.
Just by seeing the first demon I understand the Owls leading her there
It's kinda like in Avatar: The Last Airbender where each incarnation isn't always the same gender as the last.
@ProdigyStepper you would think so, but no, they both have clocks, Nechku having a digital clock with rome or greek or whatever numbers, and Leechku has a normal clock
@carfer536 Did you pull out the brush often? Shiranui somehow can't pull out his brush without Ishaku to tell him to.
-Rii the Poncle
Oki... you were so stupid... but you got it in the end. And that's what i feel so heart warming about this story arc.
For those who didn't see Chuggaa's Majora's Mask LP, Emile explains that someone told him the reason for the final power not being something spectacular is so the players don't feel cheated or under-powered throughout the game.

If you draw three lines in the shape of a snowflake, you can summon an ice shard storm with the Ice power.
No one pointed towards how one of Shiranui's waves of prayers was not connected to Shiranui when Ammy got him back onto land.
Now with the ultimate reflector in paw, it's off to fight Lechku and Nechku, with or without help from the brash and single-minded Oki... and with a great assist from Shiranui!
And that is how Oki became my favorite Okami character EVER

What are the Dogus based on? I know it's something from either Japanese Shinto or Buddism; I remember it from the Digimon Shoukakumon (Shokakumon?)
