Snape is the one who ratted him out, forced him to resign, knowing full well werewolves can't find jobs because of the laws that Umbidge keeps passing.
Except he exposed his condition to everyone, forcing him to resign - knowing very well how disgusting and discriminatory the anti-werewolf laws were and how hard it is for them to find jobs. Snape wanted to ruin his life even more.

In my mind he isn't dead, neither is Tonks, and I'm making up a story in which there is a way to cure him and awaken the dead. Since he was cured Peter didn't escape, Sirius was freed, Buckbeak was saved.... James and Lily were brought back after Voldy went moldy haha thank you Peeves and Sirius, Remus and Tonks (Fred too :) ) and in 2000 Teddy got a sister who they named Hope after Remus' mother, gosh I love my imagination....
