    Great video. It's incredible the number of hours it takes for such large events. People just see a photo and not the endless hours before and after.

      Photogs get a lot (or often all) of the credit, but there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes as well!

    Jerry, if at all possible can you guys put together a version of "One Shot" at the next Olympics? You guys have a different type of access to photojournalism than anyone else. I also think it's important to document the evolution in photography during the summer and winter Olympics. Especially winter, b/c that just never gets covered from a photographers perspective.

    Awesome video lai, can you pls tell us the gear that dominated 2020 Olympic, is it Nikon, canon or Sony?

    • @JerryTLai
      @JerryTLai  3 года назад

      Sony has done a crazy good job of clawing market share away from Canon and Nikon. I would say Sony and Canon are roughly even, possibly even an edge to Sony. Nikon is starting to trail the pack a bit. But all three manufacturers make extremely capable cameras.

    Do you have a video similar to this, but of what it’s like for the photographer during and after a sporting event? Like how they get a photo or video and within minutes it may be on the jumbo tron

      Not yet, but I will do one that goes behind the scenes on how some of the large media organizations and teams/clubs are able to do that!

    Hello Jerry great insight. I want to cover an Olympics. I found the part about transmitting images straight from the camera body fascinating. Please advise does this technology work on previous generation canon such as 1D Mark IV’s or is it is only for the later versions. Thanks

      It gets pretty technical but I will eventually do a video on this because I know some of these behind the scenes work is what people like to see. Even the earlier models of cameras have this capability but often required an adapter or dongle. The newer ones have Ethernet ports built in.

      @@JerryTLai Thank You. I used to work as a freelancer in London & covered sport in the 2000’s. The filing of images for me was always so difficult. You have a limited laptop battery life and you had to get your images out. It was always nerve racking. So I stopped. As a photographer I just started working on long term projects instead. The fact that today you can send images straight from the body anywhere is such a relief. A video on this would be so appreciated. I am working my way back working my way back into sports now.

      Yeah there is a bit of pressure to turn images around pretty quickly. To be able to pump images straight to someone on the receiving end is pretty standard for large events like this. It requires a lot of manpower but it’s amazing that an image can be made available online within like 1-2 minutes after it happens. Crazy!

      Yes, with the WFT-E2A II, you may transfer your images via wired or wireless transmission. Though, you will only get 10/100 ethernet and 802.11a/b/g, which is not very fast considering the frame rate and resolution of the camera. I have not used the ethernet capability extensively, but unfortunately, I can attest the fact that wireless transmission was too slow for my needs. Nonetheless, the EOS 1Dx does offer built in gigabit Ethernet and extended wireless functionality via the WFT E6A at greater speeds.

    Also don't just try building your channel on your own, that takes like 5-10yrs especially with the new algorithm leaning toward Shorts.
