1KZ engine - don’t push it when going uphill, slowly crawl and watch the temp meter, the key is to not get it overheated (install an external water temp gauge, that certainly helps) - maintenance with the cooling system is paramount. Enjoy the journey with the truck
@@JunOutdoors I want to agree with @alantan7644. The 1kz-t is a great engine, I have been driving mine for 10 years now. BUT they have a weakness, like all engines have . In the 1KZ it is the possibility of overheating and 'cooking' the aluminum head. So regular maintenance of the entire cooling system is 100% important. That means a clean, good flowing radiator, properly functioning thermostat and radiator cap, unbroken radiator fan and fan shroud, good/non-brittle radiator hoses, newer water pump, a working fan clutch (if the fan clutch has not been changed or had the viscous oil changed, it probably is worn out by now just due to age) and of course proper radiator fluid/antifreeze. I do not know how much 'baseline' maintenance has been done when you bought it, but please do not plan to spend too much money modifying before you do proper 'baseline' maintenance. That includes timing belt, replacing water pump if you have no record of it being done, and checking all hoses and vacuum lines, engine seals, all of which just get old after 30 years of hot/cold cycles in the engine bay. Also: if your truck and the automatic/electric 4wd hubs on front axle, they are well known to not work and are very difficult to keep maintaining fixing. Consider converting to manual hubs, and while you are at it you can do a full front swivel hub rebuild with new bearings and seals. Congratulations on your new truck, I love your manual gearbox and PTO winch! Just be prepared to spend money on maintenance, even if the LC is legendary for reliability is it only reliable when the owner spends money regularly fixing problems BEFORE they become a big problem.
similiar to zd in a patrol i own, i would make this 1st priority before anything as it has similar problems. radiator, egt gauge, exhaust, intercooler. nothing crazy fancy, mainly upsize these components. i think snorkel/airbox and safe tune would be after
The 1kz engine is proven to be powerful and reliable , just make sure it doesn't get overheated. Make sure the cooling system is functioning well. Once the 1kz overheated it will start having endless cylinder head issues. The 1kz will run like a clock unless it get overheated. And don't forget it's a belt driven engine, if the last change history of the timing belt is unknown, better have it change before any long journey drive.
@@JunOutdoors Also, just from looking at your engine bay, it certainly looks like your fuel filter is old? Dark and stained anyway! If you have no record or it being changed, would suggest doing so soon and I replace mine every other oil change (every 10,000k, although that is here in Africa with questionable diesel pumps n stations, etc.)
As a Forester owner, I hate to see you retire your old Forester, but I give you a thumbs-up for this classic LC, great choice, and applaud you for your courage in chasing your dreams. Keep it up.
Congratulation on the latest acquisition! This LC2 certainly got the best mommy on earth, TLC at best. "JUPITER" will be my suggested name, the largest Planet on our sweet own solar system. Jun's Jupiter.
Wow, let the adventures begin! Congratulations! Your parents gave you the perfect name, Jun means Talented, handsome, ruler. The Parents that decide to name their new bundle of joy Jun can see that their future is bright with beauty and skills not to mention a spectacular gift to the world. Your beautiful smile just lights up the day.
That is one beauty of a rig. You Tube recommended your channel and I am glad they did. I subbed and as a fellow Overland enthusiast I am looking forward to your build. My build out is done mostly with composite panels to keep the weight down. The company I work at rebuilds Aircraft and I was lucky enough to acquire some composite floor panel remnants and built my platform with a wood 2x2 frame and also a fold up "rear door" kitchen box. The box is 29x18 and I was able to mount it using one hand because it it so light for my door. Again thank you for your positivity and enjoy that sweet rig.
badass truck! Found your channel few months ago. Inspired by all your outdoor videos. Now we gonna see a new season of June Outdoors! Congrats & tumpang happy for you!
What fantastic buy. These rigs are tough. There is a very good reason why the 70 Series Land Cruisers continues to be very popular here in Australia despite not having changed much in way of exterior and interior design since the mid-80s.. They just go, and go, and go, and go. And you're not wrong, 200k kms on a Toyota diesel engine is nothing. Have fun getting to know your rig. And you'll find out customising your rig for your perfect overlanding rig never ends (we call them "Tourers" in Australia). There is always something to tweak and/or improve as time goes on. But that's half the fun of owning a 4WD. Congratulations. 👍
Thank you. I guess there are many good reasons that have earned the 70 series their great reputation. Your words are very reassuring, now I feel even better for buying it! Can't wait to have all the fun with it :)
Congrat! I have multiple LCs include 95 LC 1hdt-Ft. and 80 series LC converted with poptop for long travel. I'm in the U.S. ( California). For your engine specific, it's critical to have the injectors and it's pump service. Have fun.
Lots of congrats Jun!! Finally you own one of the legendary LC... A dream rig too for me(I'm from S'pore and we don't have these LCs anymore here). Enjoy your new rig and to many more great adventures(safely always). My suggestion for a name: Columbus (as in Christopher Columbus)...😉
Good choice on getting an LC. It's tough and very capable off road. But, you need to keep an eye on the fluids. LC's are known for overheating issues. Other than that, I'm sure you will love driving it on tough trails.
congratulations jun on the LC.... and hopefully make many sweet memories along the way. I hv a PRADO 120...its a journey, an adventure and sometimes a surprise Cheers
Congrats ! You couldn't have made a better choice ! For overlanding a Landcruiser is THE BEST. Now you have to fit it out properly at the back and then you can come to South Africa and Namibia with it. You won't be sorry ! May you have zillions of trouble-free km's. (just service your Cruiser regularly...every 10 000 km) ❤
Haha. Your excitement put a huge smile on my face all through that video Jun. I can imagine the channel is going to go up a gear from here. A real adventure wagon. Congratulations and I wish you health to enjoy it. I remember the video where you were at the overland meet up and you were well into it so this is no surprise. You say you are going to take your time and go slowly…yeah, right, I bet. 😂 pull over Eva, Jun coming thru…
Congratulation June Welcome to the world of LC. Hope this Junita will serve you well in upcoming years! Love to see more videos from you. Now i miss my LC2!🥲
Welcome to LC ownership. One of the best LC communities is ih8mud where there is a specific 70 Series community. There is also the BORNEO SAFARI which may be interesting to watch since it is in Malaysia. I own a 76 as well.
Only advice i can give is make sure you have a EGT gauge (only if you install a turbo really) and water temp gauge. Keep an eye on the temps and everything else is golden.
Wow, When I saw the notification I was like no way. I know you have talked about it many of times in your videos. And it comes with it's very own built in "Snorkel" 🤣 Congratulations, I can see and feel how excited you are in this video and that's awesome. I can't wait to see what's next🙂❤❤
Congrats June. Following ur camping journey since watch ur video camp at Kenaboi. Happy to see ur improvement. From the black tent, to roof top tent now with new truck.
Congratulations!! I’m elated for you. You’re going to love it. I have a 1995 80 Series with 309,000 miles on her, and just drive it across N. America - California to North Carolina, USA. (One thing: Please, please, please wear your seatbelt. I noticed you were not wearing it, even in the highway footage. Please make that your newest habit. Please).
Very good I think you’re off to a great start can’t go wrong. Your priorities are in order. Will definitely follow through you and look forward to your future videos.
Great truck! Im owning 1kz auto. Minor problems every 3 months, but is fun to work on it. If you planning to go off road, i suggest to paint it with undercoat type of paint, your car wont scratch and you can live happily haha.
Hey! Congratulations on the new Toyota Land Cruiser! ❤😍That's one impressive ride🤩. Speaking of trucks, I recently got my hands on my dream truck too - a Mitsubishi Pajero MK1. It's been a dream come true! Here's to both of us enjoying our adventures on the road ahead! Love from Sri Lanka...! 🇱🇰

For inspiration, there are so many Landcruiser related RUclips channels in Australia. Don’t know whether most of the 4WD products (brands) are available in Malaysia. Australia is LC 70 heaven.
I think you should also repaint it in black and keep all this reinforce exterior bar it looks cool and seems add structure integrity since you will regulary drive it off road dark colour help hiding dirt stain.

Cooling system and Overheating prevention. Will keep that in mind. Thanks for the tip!

good advice
Careful with the 1kz engine. Also upgrade the exhaust to 3inch pipe to help the engine. Their heads are pretty weak
The 1kz engine is proven to be powerful and reliable , just make sure it doesn't get overheated. Make sure the cooling system is functioning well. Prevent overheating and watch the timing belt. Got it. Thank you so much for your tips and insights :)

The Forester has been great. Of course I have bought this one for specific reasons, which will become clear later on :)

Nice Prado! I imported a 96 1hdft 80 series to Canada in 2019, updated the turbo, intercooler and exhaust. Made a huge difference. almost at 200K now.
Sounds awesome!
