Note at 5:31 to make sure that you put either very little or no copper grease on the plugs. There is a debate on the internet about whether to use it or not. Plugs like these NGKs already have a coating on them, so it's not really necessary. Yes, these Mercedes have aluminum heads that expand and contract with heat differently than the plugs and have long intervals, but NGK does not specifically recommend it.
@@antoniohardy5981 Hi, dont do that...i ve bien reading a lot about it...none other makes Better than the NGK iridium and last as long. Yess they are a bit costy. i have same M113k ✌️
Great DIY. I did my spark plugs in the M113K the same way, reused the coil wires. Good idea to inspect the wires connectors inside boots that attach to spark plug top and coil carefully for any electrical corrosion. I replaced one wire with crud in it similar to a battery post. Great post!
This is the most beautiful E55 I've seen on RUclips. I like the minimalist look, not overdone with a look that's in your face. A snowflake from the outside, beast from the inside. I can't afford to own a petrol Mercedes engine for now, but I am happy with my W211 E280 redesign (3222cc/177hp). Maybe one day I'll own or even have the chance to drive one E55 since it's my favorite car of all time. Great video!
I watched this as there are few videos on working on my SLK32 AMG but I think after watching this video the same rules apply and I'm feeling confident in taking this on myself instead of paying the $700 something or $1000 my mechanic wants which is just rediculous. Thanks for the great video!
I have a 2006 E55, white with the panoramic roof. 144,000km (I'm in Edmonton). I'm parking the car for the winter and that's when all the little projects are going to happen, like fixing the seat air pump issue, spark plugs, supercharger oil change, etc. Your videos will come in VERY handy! Thanks for the awesome content!
I doubt I've seen higher video definition quality than you're showing. Absolutely excellent. Your instructions are very clear as well. I don't have one of these cars but wish I did!
Thank you, I'm about to by myself a 2006 s55 amg for my Bday and your videos make me so much more comfortable with this purchase. I was worried maintenance costs would eat a hole in my wallet.
Thanks for sharing this! I have also an e55 like this. Butter right now I do hesitate a little doing this kind of work by my own. But these Clips help to unterstand more and more. ... GREETINGS from germany
Good tip, even though you didn’t actually say it, to use a glove to cover the throttle body opening after removing the air boxes. I never thought of that! In hindsight now, it seems obvious! Thanks!
I rather use a clean microfiber cloth and an elastic. In case you start it before you remember to replace the filter housing, that won't get sucked in.
Thank you for the outstanding and superb video tutorials. I am very happy, I was able to change the spark plugs on my 2005 E55 AMG, all by myself. I appreciate the car that much more, being able to work on it myself. Cheers!
Very instructional video with great tips and very well filmed. Just recently acquired an E55 and its great to see this model well supported by your efforts!
Just bought a C55 this week and plan on changing the plugs this weekend. I'm going to do the Valve Cover Gaskets at the same time. Great Video and thanks!
Great video but I would like to add one more critical step: After you clean the debris out of the spark plug holes, crack the spark plugs loose and spray a small amount of WD-40 around the spark plugs and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. I did not do this when I changed my plugs and the result was nearly catastrophic. The spark plug threads that are closest to the pistons had a lot of carbon built up on them and as I unscrewed them the carbon made one plug seize up in the head. This only happened on one plug but the result was that I had a spark plug completely seized half way out of the head. I thought I had ruined the whole head. As a last-ditch effort, I sprayed some WD-40, let it sit, and then slowly worked the plug back and forth until it finally started coming out. Yes, the engine smoked a bit on startup, but I nearly ruined my head by not doing this step. I'm sure it was a freak occurrence, but it's easy to prevent. Thanks
Definitely one of if not the best how to DIY videos very well done, with all the tools and tips. With good lighting and voice over. Other You-Tubers need to take note.
Great DIY. Overall this job is pretty same for all M113, M112 engines. Personally i use Hazet 2771 spark plug boot puller and Hazet 4766 Spark plug socket when i change plugs on My M113.
Awesome channel with a super detailed video. I'll be doing my e55 plugs shortly this was a huge help. When I did the valve cover gaskets I never knew the intake came off so easily so I worked around it that simple step would of made it so much easier
Oil , or what appears to be oil but is actually accumulated combustion fluids on the threads , actually comes from inside the combustion chamber and is quite normal to some extent.
I also did this a couple of weeks ago on my M112k. Didn't use anti-seize on the threads. I resealed the valve covers and breathers too. I also replaced the wires with NGK wires. What's your opinion on NGK Wires? They're performing well imho.
Very good video and an easy step by step process! However I was informed that cooper grease isn’t the best thing to use for spark plugs especially near the tips of the plugs, only use the Silver grease.
I was thinking just how difficult Mercedes has made this task . That's a couple of hours of reassemblling . Having said that they've made a beautiful engine .
great video, perhaps would be nice idea to go through maintance works like: replace spark plugs every X km, transmission fluid replacement every X km, coolant, accessories belt, ect every X miles. Just a reminder how to properly maintain AMG according to M-B documentation. But detailed description of certain works is great!
6:16 - how did valve cover gasket oil leak cause oil on spark plug threads? The gasket does not provide any direct seal for spark plug holes. Are you saying that the oil leaked from gasket onto coils, then followed coil wires down into spark plug opening?
Another great video,,,good job. I have found pushing those boots back on to be quite difficult,,needing the 17mm spanner to help. Did you lube the boots or the white of the plugs ?
Thank you very much Alex for another extremely useful video. Exactly what I was look for as its probably my next job. Your channel is the best out there for help and fantastic info on W211/W219 55K amg. Alex can you please advise on the spark plug service interval. Woul it be every 40,000 miles????????? Happy Christmas to you from Ireland Kind regards John CLS55AMG
Excellent job ! However, you don't need to put copper grease on the threads of the spark plugs because there are manufactured with specific treatment in order to avoid rust. The grease will collect dust over time.
Saleen SHELBY Thanks guys, I just looked at the bulletin. Oh well, I didn’t put much on, a small dab does no harm. I pinned a comment at the top about this.
Copper grease increase corrosion process ... of course need oxygen and some moist but ... thread is long enough to allow good conduction of electricity and made good quality of sparks. Personally will not use grease, will thighten with max. 28NM avoid troubles in future.
On my CLK55. Have found that taping a short extension to the spark plug socket keeps it together when trying to remove from cylinder head. The rubber on the socket wants to stick to the plug and stay down in the hole.
How much is the spark plug removal tool diameter? I mean, I'm trying to manufacture it somehow. What is the plug boot width? Thank you!! Awesome tutorial!!
One more question before I tackle this project today. Did you take all 16 old spark plugs out and then install the new 16 or did you take one old one out and then put in one new one then repeating for all 16?
Hey Meister, I’m new to your channel. Grateful for the amg contents you created. 🙏 I’m asking for recommendations from you or anyone that can chime in. I’m looking to purchase an older amg. There’s 2 options. 2011 ML63 M156 or 2012 ML63 M157. Please give me feedbacks. What do I have to look for such as weaknesses and advantages. I will have the pre inspection done at the Mercedes’ dealership. My worries are the air suspension failing and timing chain failures. Thanks 🙏
Hello. Thank for this awosome video. I am about to pull the trigger and order a set of plugs and spark plug wires. Which spark plug wire would be better? Bremi or Bosch? if i am not mistaken the Bosch is OEM?
Greetings from Ireland Alex. Can you please advise me on the service interval for the 16spark plugs? My 2006cls55amg has 52,000 miles. According to the service book they were last changed in 2016 at 35,604miles. I'm getting prepped to do the valve cover breather oil leak and am tempted to do the plugs when I'm in there. Don't want to pry off plug leads leaning on valve cover and damage new gaskets in a few yrs time. Any thoughts from you be greatly appreciated!!!!
Hi, from what power of engine you suggest to use colder sparks? I have right now 77mm pulley on SC should I go with colder or it is still enough to have standard factory plugs? Thanks in advance for your reply. Rafi
Copper with aluminium engine heads made a power cell and corrosion. Do not use it. If you need grease (not cecessary) use special high temperature, low resistance without copper. Sparks must are screwed up to max.25nm of torque. Do not exceed it avoid destroy thread.
Hi! I was wondering if you can comment on something I've been reading on the forums...this transmission adaptive memory reset? Have you heard of it or tried it? Something about putting your key in and turning the electronics on and flooring the pedal for five seconds?
Hello. I added a comment to your video on the oil level check from the instrument cluster. A year old so you probably haven’t seen it. Anyhow, I can get to the same screen but mine is blank, doesn’t even show a line for the oil level. Could this be a sensor? 09 w211 E63
Jason Brody I didn’t cut anything, this engine was completely original. Sometimes the clips break on the wires going to coils and the tech zip ties it to hold.
You forgot a step. label the edge of the air filter with the date and mileage with a sharpie so you can see when to replace the air filter without taking apart the boots.
