Not only are bats my favorite extant animal and one I've been hoping would be a Root faction for years, but their playstyle vibe at this stage seems to combine my current top two factions (Lizards and Alliance), so it's highly likely the Council will be my new favorite faction. I also love how every Root creator seems to have had a video on Bats and Frogs ready for today to promote the Kickstarter, only to be just as blindsided by the Skunks as the rest of us.
Yay 'control' based factions, as a blue magic player I approve. Bats are a 'card cycler,' and while it's not a 'card advantage' faction but they do cycle like crazy making it easier to farm ambush cards.
Ahh YES so stoked!! 🐸 Ahoy is fun, but Root fills that asymmetric void for me, and a lighter asymmetric game didn’t really get played much in our gaming groups!
It is apperently still being polished however. I am very interested in it as it finally makes it rewarding to police the vagabond. Oh and one of the new vagabonds is a duck with a hatchet, we don't know its ability yet but it did appear on a livestream
Where did you see that you can choose the attacker? From the board, it's only said "choose a faction to be the defender". To me it means that when you assemble, you're the attacker. Also, when warriors are removed, you "ignore any effect that keep them of of their supply", so isn't it bad for the lizards?
I’m super excited to try out the frogs their mechanics of adding an extra suit and flip their tokens from militant to peaceful sounds cool and seems like it will add a lot to gameplay 🐸
@@vincentlopez9944 ahh solid question! It really depends on your playstyle, but I really love the rats from the Marauder expansion since they’re pretty aggressive and expand like wildfire 😂 this expansion also adds in badgers who have strong warriors that recruit relics If you like setting up shop and converting other warriors into a cult: Riverfolk expansion If you like setting up traps and having leaders/tunneling around 😂: Underworld Expansion
Lord Of The Board did a video on which order to buy the expansions. Starting with Underworld I would agree with, after that it’s kinda your call. I gravitate towards Marauder, since it adds two aggressive factions and hireling for lower player games. However, many people say Riverfolk is better, with more…dynamic factions, I guess I would call them. Anyway, best of luck on your search!
I’m so excited for this expansion, even before I discovered the third deck of cards and third faction Leder had waiting in ambush for launch day! While I’m not entirely sure how my meeple ranking will shake out (though bats are a _strong_ new contender there), I gotta say, the bat artwork on the Edict cards has to be some of Kyle Ferrin’s best work to date. And that’s saying something!
Got the PNP yesterday and played my first game. They have had some major changes already! Hoping their card play get some tweaks, since they dump cards for their actions.
@@kelliealanis9485 hmmm there aren’t any TCG elements at all in Root-no deck building or collectibles. Definitely better at 4+ players (I’d play at a minimum of 3)! Root may not be the best fit for what you’re looking for, but you should totally try it out some time if you can get a bigger group together and want to try out asymmetric play!
Great coverage Tim!! ❤️
Also thanks for the shoutout

THIRD FACTION: SKUNKS 🦨?! 🥹
@@TimChuon wait whaaaat????
Check out the campaign page!!
@@TimChuon it's a new Vagabond..
@@kirlin111 it’s more like a bandit clan made up of vagabonds. You will play it differently than a vagabond

I see Root and Arcs on your channel but how come no Ahoy?

I remembered how you wanted a game with frogs and i’m glad there’s one out! And it’s Root. So it’s a double Win 🏆
They added a 3rd faction to this expansion as well!!!
OMG I saw-the pack of vagabonds?! Ahhh they look so fun!! 🤣

There is also a third faction: Knaves of the Deepwood. Will allow to use 3 vagabond characters as leaders and have skunks as their warriors :D
Not just the two factions, there is a third also that will let us replace the Vagabond somewhat, and make it actually rewarding to police them

Love the video! I'm a fan of root, but Im not sure I need 10+ factions. Which factions would you say are MUST haves to compliment the core game?

I have allready ordered everything, it will take some time to arrive though
Hmm, to me these two does not seem like entry weight factions at all, but perhaps I’m missing something 😅
Still Team Bats over here!

Why nobody talking in their videos about Knaves of the Deepwood? I guess the video was filmed earlier than the informaton appeared?

Quick question. How do the bats move? They seem like they can only be placed at assemblies and can't move.
When will we finally get Turtles????
Great video as always

Indeed it's for that reason
