    Nice to see you're still going strong with the old computers. Recently dug out my A1200 tower conversion and am giving it an overhaul after letting it collect dust for a decade. I have a lot of catching up to do on your channel. After attending Amiga Ireland and browsing through your channel, I see a lot (new) has happened while I neglected my computer. Keep up the good work, sir!
    A good habit with soldering irons is to apply some solder to the tip before putting it away. It protects it from oxidizing and prolongs the lifespan. Clean the tip when you are going to use it. It is pretty much done when the solder starts to bead on the tip instead of flowing evenly. Flux can help bring it back to life, but the tip plating is already damaged. High heat reduces the lifespan too. The general rule is about 310 degrees for leaded solder and 350 for unleaded. Only increase the heat if needed and bring it back down again when done. This is at least what I were taught on the IPC J-STD-001 training.

    Before installing the socket, I use the socket to straighten all the pins of the item to be used in the socket. This eliminates "going blind" later to find bent pins.

    I was only thinking the other day, that the 68 pin sockets are getting harder to find. I like seeing your videos when you have got lots of different repairs. It motivates me to get on with a few of my repairs. Keep up the great work. 🙂

    One thing you could do is gather up some smaller sockets that are dual wipe and snag the pins from them. I feel like that pins from that one won't re-tension properly and just snap and give you issues down the line

    9 pound a socket? Thats insane. Dual wipes are like 18 cents here (40 pins) and gold plated turn pins starting at 70 cents. most expensive i can find is a turned pin one with a 100nf decoupling cap integrated by mpe garry. for 4.5 euros. (which in itself is also insane as the same branded one without the cap doesn't even cost half of that)

    I'm struggling to source spare 1Mb dram ICs (64k x16), they are ZIP 40 pin packages, not for an Amiga, however thought you might have some info since the Amiga used similar chips?

    • @GadgetUK164
      @GadgetUK164  3 месяца назад +2

      What system are they for? UTSource.com is the place to check for the harder to find ZIP RAM ICs! Always buy more than you need and sell the extra tested working chips if you end up with too many. A percentage of a given batch usually turns out bad...

      @@GadgetUK164 Wow, thanks for that🙂
      They're for a synthesizer, Korg 01W.

    Hi, where do you get the pins to perform the TF repair? I have a PiStorm with a similar broken pin issue, but I don’t know how to find replacement pins like the bag of which when replacing the one on your TF. Thanks.

      2.54mm Pitch Turned Pin Socket - like this:- www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293522276524?itmmeta=01HS778WY08B1QX9HNAQM53R10&hash=item44574a80ac:g:yGEAAOSwMqVeeOMV&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwC524Hz4jWDt%2FdG%2FoPjbExoZfIGuDaXaQyOpWQ3t4pRruEvro%2FMr0bhbZ%2BJyRk10fnveRTtpvJlBUNYn94gsv1L%2BDmiuLBPYy7PC15I%2Fc0mqRbbV8BLaLG%2BfJWbBdHI9kwEQm5DaCAN9CYUdFDEOHLfqYgh%2FiVKlAZDMVdJOXV3t5VagAHmnGdtANaig2Pkzl6kVvfy3EhVWxy6iXARUTq%2BCQLDolOKpH531pGSp9%2FmBZDAcxr0l14t93m7kzc2pcA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR5LPo-fJYw

      @@GadgetUK164 Thanks I went ahead and ordered some, so fingers crossed with my PiStorm repair. Thanks for all the Amiga the content... in a round about way some of your previous content led me to some resistor packs that were causing a mouse/joystick port to not function properly on an A500 some time ago. I un-soldered a resistor pack then re-soldered it and they've worked ever since. I had previously tried changing ICs and other things, it wasn't until I stumbled upon some of your content where you'd had problems with resistor packs that I even considered those could be the issue. Worked like a charm! Thank you.

    A good benchmark for O.C FPUs, is the demo Jesus Christ Motocross.
    Will definitely give your screen corruption.
