i had just got my own home made didgeridoo, or well its a nice piece of bamboo that i hollowed out and i am also completely new at the whole rhythm making level. i just want to say that your video showed me a lot more about rhythms than any other video, because you put it out so straight forward and i admire that. great talent you have and great example by showing you stay true to your roots.
The bit about the tongue to make the toot sound is genius! I had always used a pursed lip similar to a trumpet while using either my cheeks or a closing jaw to allow me to breathe. Cannot wait to try this when I wont wake my neighbors! Subscribed.
This is brilliant. I got my didg from you folk last week and am already doing these sounds. I'm fifty years of age and live in the Blue Mountains and this playing feels very natural for me. I come from a vocal and percussion background. Thanks for your really easy to follow tutorial.
Awesome video! Lots of "Ahhh! THAT'S how you do it!" moments for me! Would love to see a vid on different ways of catching your breath during longer and more complicated rhythms. I've got the basics of circular breathing and the dit-a-wor type inhale, and have tried to get my exhales as short and plosive as possible, but still find myself running out of breath and having to keep switching to dit-a-wor over and over to drag some breath back into my lungs! Any tips?
Yes a very impromptu video, completely unrehearsed and unplanned..hence some "Ahh that's how you do it" Perhaps we will do some more detailed ones down the track. Tips?? Practice, Is your didge up to scratch ( right key, size, diameter) OR is it holding you back. Many websites, RUclips clips that are dedicated to just instructional. Try the didgeridoo dojo
Excellent teachings. Thank you so much. I have to say, I find it difficult to articulate the sounds with my yidaki on the side of my mouth (a position that for me gives more depth in the sound and generally easier to play). When I play with it in the centre of my mouth, I can articulate the words very easily but the sounds aren't deep and nice. I was trying work out where you put your mouth but your hand is always covering it. Thanks again Gumaroy :)
