I've watched hundreds of videos like this and I'm still amazed by how much putting down the outline brings the work together. before the outline it's just a bunch of seemingly random colors, but the outline makes it all work together.

Your probably right about the cans not being totally empty though. Maybe he is just clearing inventory. In alot of his pieces, he uses many different shades of the same color. Could just have 20 half full greens or something and needs the space.
start by trying to draw with colored pencils/ markers to develop some familiarity with the style, then try painting with it, acrylics and such, then, if you really enjoy the flow of it you can buy some paint cans from a hardware store or something

I find myself thinking, with a majority of your vids, that you're combining too many, typically different, style details. There almost too much going on. But each technique is dope on its own. THEN! Then you come out with a vid where it all comes home and it's brilliant! So, I appreciate your "practice" content. If that's what you mean for these to be. And even if my point isn't your plan, I'm always stoked to see your progression as it's happening. Nothin but love, sir. Piece in peace 1

Those are "empty cans". aka, using conventional methods are out of paint. He is breaking them to get the last of it out.

the cans are not destroyed, he picks up leftover cans from other writers and uses them to do this.
