I don't know the full reason behind why the giant inflatables have external fans, but I do have a theory in regards to it that shouldn't be to far off from actuality. I think the main reason Seasons Global inflatables(the company that makes the big guys) aren't able to afford the patent Gemmy has to mass produce motors and stands similar to their designs. By Gemmy holding that patent they have to resort to other patents for motors that they can use and cheaply mass produce for consumers. The model they choose to use now are the ones with the external motors. The External motors can also be smaller and have no stand and for giant inflatables they'd need a large stand and a larger box to package the inflatables. Having an external fan keeps the size of the box small and be a strong enough motor to inflate 20ft of nylon. Gemmy tried to have external fans with their smaller models for a while back in 2008 and 2009(My small Snoopy and one of my snowmen are among these few), but they soon realized it was easier for consumers to set up inflatables with the motors already on the backs of them(how all the 4ft models have always been) and most likely keep the cost of stakes down. Hi ant3 I have an airblown dragon that you should buy from Walmart its 100$ you must save to buy it look at the other inflatables to maybe you might find something even nice there are so many to choose from bye
